1. Lets see, so Jazz has to be only trad or bop? I thought that the main concept of Jazz was that your imagination was the limit. Cheap shots are easy specially when your body of work can be written in a sheet of toilet paper. Music is art and by any means you can't talk about poor note choices when you are improvising. I tell you some people .......
 2. Saw him a couple of years ago and that was one of the best gigs ever, full of energy and great music. BTW I hate his bassplayer his tone and touch are so ridiculously good that makes my blood boil. I also have the birthday DVD and that was another great gig too.
 3. Or you can get an old computer or laptop and install Ubuntu Studio Linux in it, no latency problems and all the free software in the world. Oh did I forget to mention free ASIO and free software?
 4. If I'm not mistaken Monk was the first to ever record a Jazz record with an electric bass.
 5.
This is endemic in the genre at the moment as far as I'm concerned he is not alone. I can't think of 1 'bass' album I would listen to twice. No music, just playing. I don't include bass players as composers/leaders in that, notable example of good stuff, eg Bass Desires Marc Johnson So does Marcus Miller.... no wait..... It's just business, they all want to capitalise on their 'name' and with companies willing to have a punt because they are, or have been, famous session dudes. I'm being facetious, but being great players and sometimes producers does not mean they are automatically going to create works that wil live on. I don't blame them for earning a crust in a fad but I am just not into the whole 'bass on top' thing apart from in a few very particular compositionally appropriate circumstances.
Exactly what I've always said about Marcus Miller and keep getting hammered by people. I will admit it I went to a MM gig a couple of years ago and ended up missing half the gig because I fell asleep! I couldn't stand the barrage of slap and pop anymore. I woke up twice once he started playing the clarinet and the other when he played some of Luther Vandross's stuff and the public started singing along to it. I grew bored of his sound and technique to me is all the same and with no quirkiness. I still like some of his old stuff though. As for JB I agree that his last efforts haven't been good at all, I think he is trying too much to be a soloist and not a bassist and that is where he is lost. I love the stuff he did in fusion but not much the present stuff.
 6.
MB1. Cant see what all the fuss is about here?,that Jeff Berlins done nothing since that "War Of The Worlds" thing!
Sorry mate you are wrong that was Herbie Flowers! Having read one more "Jeff is a douche" post it makes me really sad, you know why because I met Jeff twice (one in NY and another back in my motherland) and he was the most reachable and nicest of guys, we even were joking about what people says of him! He gave me lots of good advice too. What JB doesn't manage to do is to explain his point in a way that is easy for most people and sometimes he can sound really arrogant but I attribute that to some degree of frustration. Someone said that learning music doesn't teach you how to groove, well that is one of the most ludicrous statement I've seen, just think about 3 of your favourite players of all time and google a bit and you'll find that those guys learned music. Anyway JB comments are oriented to those guys who want to become professionals like Nathan East, Lee Sklar people who want to play professionally and not only one genre of music. One of the points Jeff made the time we talked was that once you know what you're playing your speed increases because you know where you are going on the fingerboard. Another person said that JB played 3 notes in SB's bass and then gave it back, well he actually played something (in reality he was just a bit of tune) and gave it back but the point he made was that he was able to play that unlined fretless because he knew were the notes are, that's why he said give me one night (I think it was). regarding Metronomes JB states clearly that they are not going to give you time and he is right, he told me that the metronome is only good to learn how to subdivide and if you want to get good timing you should be better of practicing with a drum machine. I guess that the main problem with Jeff is that he doesn't like to spoon feed people but let them discover things by themselves. Rich if you can get your hand on Alan Holdsworth "Water on the brain" to me that's Jeff's best solo ever. Just my 2p.
 7. That is an old Yamaha BB those are really great basses, I always wanted one of those.
 8. I would try the SeA-2 it bring the bass and treble in a concentric pot. I have one in my Encore P copy "Dr. Evil" and sounds very nice and clean. You can get them for £20 on evilBay.
 9. I still can't believe no one have mention "Love Stinks" by The J Geils Band
 10.
Cheers. Yeah, the control spacing I didn't notice that for a while and we even thought of spraying the centre black when it was being built but I wanted it to still be its own bass and the maple is lovely. It cost me £600, I use to pay £25 every Friday evening after work and Keith would show me what he had done. It took almost a year to build but if I'd have waited 15 years I could have had a real Status when they finally started making lefties. The next bass on my list is a King Bass. Tell me O.T.P.J. has the neck profile changed between the Series II and S2 Classic and is the King Bass different again?
You know what? I like this body more that the real Status, you have a great bass mate and hope you enjoy it more than I'm enjoying it's looks. Keep the lows mate.
 11.
I have one of these in my Spector. I am not digging it. Does anyone have anything they would like to trade pre-amp wise for it? Ta
I have a Bartolini NTBT 2 band preamp if you want to try something different.
 12. Thanks guys I tried it last night and sounded mint! you guys are made of gold
 13.
I got a no-name cast bridge new off Ebay for about £12. Bit heavier in construction, saddles tracked to prevent sliding, similar design to original. Didn't like the look of Badass & seemed a bit overkill for what I wanted. Works a treat
I got the same one and it fantastic, gives me more sustain and intonation and the best of all it's a direct replacement. 14. Well my mate bought one from a fellow Basschatter and now he wants to add an extra cab. The question is how to connect both. The amps has 2 connections 1 XLR and 1 Speakon , I guess you connect one to the XLR and one to the Speakon but I just want to be sure I'm not going to fry the amp. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers, The guy that can make a boat out of a hair band. (Mcgiver) Oh BTW the manual is just pants so don't mention it!

 16.
Will be missed.... There's a Bass Player who really knew where 'one' was. A real lesson in Latin Groove playing...Fantastic. Garry
There are only 2 bass players in Latin America that kept amusing musicians and those are Cachao and Carlitos del Puerto, those guys could play in the "One, behind it and before it without sweating. I had the pleasure of seeing both players and Cachao was better because Cachao had more musical knowledge. I even remember a video of him playing Madison Square Garden in which you can see Ron Carter taking notes, it was a joy so see a legend like Ron Carter not even blinking. R.I.P maestro.
 17. I could be interested in the whole package ..... Give me until tomorrow.
 18.
You take it to a tech and get it fixed. That's what normal people do. I guess there's always the option of praying to the Flying Spaghetti Monster that it will work again.
Mean bastard! You really made my day with that.
 19.
EXL165's for me, I occasionally get a pack of pro-steels, but they're lacking a bit of mid punch compared to the nickels. I've tried Ernie Ball hybrids, DR lo riders & hi beams, GHS, LaBella, Rotosound Steels and Elites over the years but I keep coming back to D'Addarios. Although I've just put a set of Dean Markley Blue Nickels on my Lakland that I picked up in San Francisco for $17, they seem really good too thus far.
Wow the same experience here, I tried them and love them. Tried Rotos and ended up hating them. My low B is just a thunder with the EXL's. I promised some time ago not to buy anything else.
 20. Why don't you try Simon Merrick's website he is Basschatter and has a book with most of Jamiroquai's transcriptions. Very good book and a top bloke Mr. Simon (I think that's new nickname)
 21.
Anyone singing the praises of ear tuning training software,as i,m quite new to bass playing ,just started about 1 yr ago and more or less self taught with some lessons ongoing.Appreciate if anyone could reccomend a good software or not bother, there seems so much out there. Thanks for the advice Dave (Old Git 2)
For me the best method is "Ultimate ear training" by Gary Willis.
