1. Here are a couple of videos of the 5 strings version, everything is the same except for the pups. 2.
chin up boys... its not like any of us were in line for the gig. invent your own lines and send it in to the man... you never know
That is the best idea I've heard in the whole week. I think I'll arrange some bass and send him a copy by email that will put a smile on his face.
3. I think these are good ones: For those who can speak spanish this one is great too.
4. When I hear the sentence "Monster bassline" I only have one thing in mind. Willy Weeks in Donny Hathaway's "Little Ghetto Boy". That's what I call bass playing.
5.
Duffy - sounds like she's on helium.
You forgot to mention that she sounds like singing through a "Tremolo" effect on her voice. I can't stand her voice one bloody second.
6. Well here is my list: For Windows: - Express Scribe (free software that helps you to slow down, learn and play along to any song) - Reaper (For all the reasons said before) - Mixcraft 5 (a ton of features for $75, even more features than Reaper) and dead easy to learn. - Audacity (enough said) - Hydrogen (Drum machine for free with tons of features) For Linux: - Hydrogen - Audacity - Ardour For Linux I like the Ubuntu Studio package or the AV-Linux which is the one I have installed at the moment.
7.
She's great! May I ask why you mention Gaga? Have you put them both in the same basket perhaps? They are like chalk and cheese, incomparable. You may as well say you prefer free range eggs to oak floorboards. Gaga works extremely hard too you know, there is a human being under there, working just as hard as Ellie, and oak floorboards. Just thought I would point that out
Sorry but if you go back and read my statement I simply expressed my preference I didn't belate Gaga, even thought I believe that she is 40% talent and 60% PR. If that is the way she made it more power to her, but I find that Ellie doesn't rely on gimmicks or pandering to achieve what she has achieved, that's why made the "honest pop" reference. I don't know why all of you got so worked out about that!
I don't know her personally but to be honest I prefer her music to Lady Gaga's. She looks like a young lass working her butt off to make it. I like "Guns & Horses" it sounds like good honest pop.
8. 80's pop you said? I have two words for you "Cutting Crew" they new their way around pop.
9. You need to buy a 50k balance pot, the wiring is on the web and very simple to do.
10. For the ones that couldn't watch the link posted by the OP, here is in the tube, well at least two songs.
11. Can I offer you my missus and kids?
12.
Glad I'm not the only one. Much like you WoT I know nothing about him, but I didn't really get much from the beginning. I'm a bit hesitant to criticise well known players as I'm cr@p , but that didn't seem very good to me.
Yes pretty messy indeed, but what I regard as pretty good was the grooving once the song developed. I've always understood that MA soloing was nothing more than entertaiment in the middle of their shows. But his playing for VH and his backing vocal were pivotal to the VH sound. MA played in all albums in the DLR years and almost never played in the last 3 albums of VH as Eddie took the bass recording. You can hear how basic the playing was in those albums, there are no runs and the tone is very different.
13.
I'm thinking of starting a "For the Alex Van Halen Detractors". Why is he a crap drummer. I think he's a good drummer, he played all the right things on the VH albums, and he holds time well enough. What's the problem with him?
Maybe this will give you an idea of how crap he is, specially at the end. My main problem with him is that constantly he overplays a lot and don't start me with those misplaced syncopations.
14. Here is recording of a Chickenfoot's gig, listen how Michael holds it and grooves. The guy can play and I love how you can listen a clear JPJ influence. I wonder if he just kept playing straight notes in VH because of Eddie being a megalomaniac, Alex being a crap drummer or a combination of both.
15. I have a yamaha BB415 that I could trade if you want.
16. Good lord I can't believe none of you have even mentioned this beauty. Human Base Roxy B5, you can get this one brand new from Thomann for £944 I'm not going to start raving about it and will let Ed Friedland do the talking.
17.
I loved the early Tribal Tech stuff when he was fresh out of MIT but they lost me after Nomads. Some of th e later jam band stuff just didn't do anything for me at all. 'Bent' has a nice track on it.... 'Its Only Music'? I think (bass takes melody) - its in 3 I think?
Bilbo at this moment I'm listening to that track, definitely one of my favourite tracks. the bass is just so beautifully laid that it's even kind of sexy. Have you listened to "Actual Fiction"? that album it's great too.
18. Dude I've listened to Scott Thunes play with pick and without and he is great!! a truly great musician. Scott is a very weird guy, he once said that he started playing with pick for two reasons: - He wanted to get the sound of another Zappa ex-bassist he listened too and fell in love with the sound. - As the awkward guys he is, he always loved to go against the crowd just for the fcuk of it. He used to play I think was an Ibanez active and he changed everything to P & Jazz basses with pick and Ampeg. At least that's was he said in one of his interviews.
19. Ok a couple of faves - Brand new heavies "You are the universe" it's very short but it's the highlight of the song. Solo at 2:04 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dPf9GQEdes...feature=related - Wham "I'm you man" the original long version wit Dion Estus playing a very hot solo at 4:31 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G1K9wX7ZmY - Gil Scott Heron "is that Jazz", this live version doesn't really do justice to the recorded solo but will give you an idea. If you can get the original recording you'll hear a truly great solo. maybe my favourite solo of all times. 20. Bloody brilliant!! that is a crazy rendition to a very crazy crazy man. love it.
21. I don't know her personally but to be honest I prefer her music to Lady Gaga's. She looks like a young lass working her butt off to make it. I like "Guns & Horses" it sounds like good honest pop.
