1. Apparently in the States Powell is considering suing Sam Ash😄 By the way, if you're considering buying his book, don't. It's dire...
2. I went to a gig the other day where the Tshirts were more than the price of admission. Have to be honest, that takes the p!ss in my view. Especially when they were probably made on a sweatshop and will last about five washes. As you were ...
3. Fascinating, thanks
4. Never mind that... Watching the sax player makes me seasick!
5. Welcome back from the guy who bought your Telecaster for his wife as a birthday present! Which of your excellent basses (I got the grand tour) did you keep? The missus swopped the Tele for a video camera...clearly not my best present idea! Coincidentally we are two weeks away from the end of a pre-retirement gap year. Not a motor home but a round the world air ticket!
6. From the land of the Manband? Welcome!
7. How do we know The Edge doesn't write the bass lines? 😈 And what if he did?!
8. Nah, Brown Eyed Girl is Van's Mustang Sally. George Best once told me it was his fave song...
9. Darn - why didn't you do this when I lived in Wycombe?
10. There's a documentary on YouTube worth tracking down called Born Fighters. I can recall it includes Albert Lee doing his solo on Sweet Little Lisa. Doesn't help Andre the question but re-watching the programme might. Great band ... My first group did 2 songs off Get It.
11. Greetings from Maine. Hope you're spared our hot weather!
12. Have been world travelling for 10 months and touched a bass half a dozen times. How I look forward to playing every day ...
13. Saw a band last weekend and had to move away from the stage when the strobes started. Seemed they put more thought into the light show than the music. And it wasn't a stadium but a bloody car park... We ended up leaving. So these things can have a negative effect on the audience too.
14. A fantastic interviewee; I had the pleasure three times. Remember him discussing pre-Yes band the Syn supporting the Jimi Hendrix Experience at the Marquee and revealing that Noel Redding couldn't master 'Hey Joe' at the soundcheck. Squire and Hendrix would have been some combination!
15. Rod fronts the current Lindisfarne on slide guitar. Before him the frontman was Ray Jackson. It does get confusing ... But the music of James Alan Hull lives on.
16. Very nice. The New Favourites of Brinsley Schwarz has very much this feel.
17. We're trying to do our trip on £150 a day plus air fares. A business class round the world ticket is about £7500.
18. Having spent the last ten months travelling the world on a 'geriatric gap year', I am planning a road trip to the above destinations in August as the unashamedly music-centred finale. As BC members betwen them have done everything already (!), I would love to hear any hints and tips you've gathered from previous trips. Apart from the fact it's gonna be flipping hot... Thanks all!
19. A lot to answer for? Those trackie bottoms, for a start!
20.
I got smashed in whitstable with the bass bloke from caravan, although i wasnt aware who he was.
Was he?
21.
The first time I met Jenny Haan (Babe Ruth band & early 70s pin-up) she was standing in my kitchen and I had no idea who she was. To be fair, Sounds used photos that concentrated on her legs and not her face! After a good 10 ten minutes of to-ing and fro-ing, he said 'do you know who I am?' and then told me...David Frost.
Didn't 'Hello good evening and welcome' give it away Dave? 😈
22. My sister was keen on his brother, David... 😆
23. Paul McCartney - in Portland, second gig of the world tour. Did I ever tell you I saw the Beatles? Attending the Cream reunion 11 years ago, I was assaulted by a bunch of people taking 'my' picture on smartphones. I turned round to see, in a box behind me, fellow audience members Macca, Heather Mills, Ringo, Barbara Bach and Tom Hanks. By the encore they'd long since disappeared into the night...but I saw the Beatles, all right?! 😆
24. Nice post! Out in SF at the moment, wish we had coincided...
