1. I can't answer this. The prospect of losing them all but one fills me with morbid dread. I would be chucking as many of them out of the window as I could in their cases and hoping the cases could absorb the impact. And don't even get me thinking about how I'd deal with the valve amps...
  2. LOL So what did you study and would you recommend the course to others? Has the qualification proved useful?
  3. Hi Dave, welcome aboard. Do you have any interesting stories from your time at BIT?
  4.
+1 to graphite reinforcement. Not for nothing are many slim necks so strengthened. As for fretboards; Ebony. Or a Phenolic/ Ebanol item.
Even a particularly dense and stiff piece of rock maple would probably do the trick.
  5.
+2 =82
+8 (currently, although looks like it might be back up to 10 soon...) =90
  6. You could get a new fingerboard put on it. Get the luthier to install graphite stiffening rods and ask him to make sure the fingerboard is from something very dense and stiff.
  7.
I don't know, so I guess that's a 'no'. I shall follow it up though. Ta, la. Dan
If its blue and red, its a Mk1, if its silver and black then its a Mk2. Mk1's need a replacement ROM, whereas Mk2's can be updated by flashing the firmware. I know there were issues with the Mk2 creating staccato notes which was fixed with a firmware update.
  8. I have tried the Burmans and the Acmes together. The Acmes make the Burmans sound like they're putting 25w each!
  9.
I am big on a band called the Untitled Musical Project right now. Any tips for a set up and some tips for my playing to how to emulate there sound :-). www.myspace.com/untitledmusicalproject
How about dropping the bass player an email? [email protected]
  10.
At least you didn't make the classic faux pas of wearing a 'clockwork orange' face mask on a visit.
No, I couldn't find one. I had to just make do with rhinestone tipped falsies and a merkin.
I could only yempt the poor fella out of a darkened cupboard with chocolate hobnobs.. and then I had to promise never to wear the mask again. Aww it was like seeing a scared puppy on fireworks night.
A trained merkin can be a powerful tool in the wrong hands.
  11.
Well i did try to offer sexual favours to get the work done, but the 'phone line fell silent for some reason *confused*
He might have been thinking "Oh no, not again". I tried last month and it didn't work either. I think the sight of my fishnets and jaunty trilby might have mentally scarred him.
  12. I've seen the bloke in Orson playing one, if that counts for anything?
  13.
The default screen on my AX100 is a tuner. Very handy for tuning at the beginning of gigs, but its not really an issue seeing as how I've set the box up not to send pitch bend messages, therefore the pitches are rounded to the nearest note. This means I rarely need to tune (of course, I do!!!). The Axon box is annoying me a bit at the mo tho. Sometimes it ignores my A string and decides its some sort of midi reset, messing up my synth patches and causing me to reboot EVERYTHING (FCB, Axon, Roland pickup, Supernova). A blag in gigs unless you've got a synth player you can glare at who instinctively knows its bound to go haywire at some point, and has a suitable patch already lined up to cover you. TBH my MIDI set us is an overall blag at the mo ... I wish I was a kit player in this band (bizarre that that's the easiest compared to my midi/audio rig, the vibraphone and the racks of synths). Dan
Is your Axon a MkI or Mk II? Have you updated it with the latest firmware?
  14. Update: Got one of these on the way care of Alex at the Bass Gallery to compliment my GK RB700 combo. Hopefully I should have a very tight, clean and powerful sounding set up on stage. I've decided that the Trace V8 isn't powerful to drive the Acmes in a way they need so I'm going to try and replace them with one of these: An EBS 212 neo, I'm going to be on the look out for a 210 neo to match and maybe I can take the RB700 head out of my combo if I need to use it with the cabs.
  15. I would like to know as well, this is a concern I've had for the last 3 years.

    SVT v DB750
I've just bought a DB750 and in my opinion it's no way modern sounding.
Well, I'm going by the reviews I read, thats all. I've never played through one.
I've got a GK1001 head also, and that most definitely is.
The GK stuff is pretty bright sounding for sure, but comparing it to a Aguilar is surely like comparing chalk and cheese? How would you compare the Aguilar to a Mesa Boogie 400+ for example?
  18.
Listen to the intro to fish on. That's what it sounds like. I'll see if I can sort out some audio. It is worth Five grand. I sold a Ken Smith 6 string fretless to buy it. No regrets.
Ah, Mr Fleeting. We know of you by reputation I believe?

    SVT v DB750

From what I've read, the Aguilars are fairly modern sounding, which I suspect is fairly removed from the lo-fi grind that the Ampeg SVT CL I once gigged through sounded like.
  20. blimey - thats a find and a half! Outside even my budget for impulse buying however. Hope it finds a good home.
  21. Welcome jono!
  22. schweeeeeet! I like it more than a standard P-bass.
  23. I would really like a customised black scratch plate for my beat up strat - reason being that I don't like the 5 way selector switch. I'd much rather have three on/off switches for the pickups so I can select the bridge humbucker and neck single coil for a funky tele rhythm work AND still keep the out of phase neck and mid coil sound for funky strat soundz. Would anyone be interested in making me one?
  24.
I know the very one nice sound eh? Jake
It was definitely loud and warm. I usually prefer a cleaner sounding amp for the Smith so I can hear the upper frequencies though. I can see why jazz and p-bass players like 'em.
  25. Rascist comments aren't going to be tolerated here I'm afraid. I can tell you from personal experience of living and working in China that the issue of quality control is usually because of inadequate supervision. With the proper level of training and good communication Chinese manufacturing is as capable of high quality as much as anywhere else. Most of the circuit boards in your computer are probably chinese manufactured and thats not the end of it. Point is, you're already depending on Chinese manufacturing quality whether you're aware of it or not. FWIW Warwick have been manufacturing their Rock Basses in China for the last 4 or 5 years and the quality of them is nothing short of superb.
