Because then everyone will hate him
Well we can't have that. He probably just wants to be loved. Like Nellie.
Look,Im getting Pm'd about this ...people. I will be probably banned for this...
Ohh FFS ARGH, it should have been pretty bloody obvious from my PM that you're nowhere even close to getting banned, so get a grip and don't be such a drama queen. We have made it clear in the past that there are specific ways in which we will entertain suggestions. I think its very telling that you chose NOT to involve either Ped, myself or one of the mods before deciding to post publically about it. Hardly a good example of working together is it? If you want to attract attention to yourself, how about doing it positively by posting some clips of you playing?
I'm in Oxford and I always find them to be professional, friendly blokes. Rumour has it that one of the shop assistants is the son of Mark King too...
At risk of appearing like a total L42 geek, is that likely to be Darcy?

Is there a bass line that you just couldnt do?
I'll bet a month's cider budget that Stuart C can!
Its possible to do it double thumbing, but it doesn't sound the same as 'chucking' it like 'Nard did. Keep a pack of plasters nearby, you'll probably need them... ...or just use a pick like any sane person would For me: Eyes Waterfalling - Level 42 plus anything by John Patitucci Jaco (apart from Portrait of Tracey) Victor Wooten and pretty much any other modern day Bass God. I have enough fun trying to copy Bernards feel on I Want Your Love - man, in a band setting that is one TOUGH song to play with the same relaxed precision and yet still mix it up like he does. He doesn't play the same riff twice through a verse but still stays right there in the pocket despite injecting subtle twists into the groove. Its playing like that which I tend to find inspiration these days rather than lots of fancy fingerwork. Just means I'm crap at showing off though. Can't solo to save myself. -
Some quality advice here and a good range of opinions and experiences. Nice thread Might be worth making it a non-wiki sticky?

A simple demand for the public to see, & to those in charge of Basschat
Seemed a reasonable question to ask.
Hmmm. ARGH in the future if you have an idea, and you would like "those in charge of Basschat" to offer their full support, its probably a good idea to discuss it with them.
I accept clear defeat....
Oh I wouldn't say defeat necessarily. You've attracted a lot of attention to yourself, as usual.

Bassist avilable for gigs/dep/cover thru Dec and Xmas
Kiwi replied to Mike Brooks's topic in Musicians Wanted
I've already used Mike on one of my gigs and he's brilliant. Knew the songs better than the rest of the band! -
I've owned all three types of neck. I think the construction processes do cause instruments to respond differently. But those differences can be ironed out to some extent depending on what materials are selected and how stiff the necks are. I've found that bolt on necked basses often do tend to have slightly more sharply peaked mids, but the same effect could probably be achieved through selective used of a mid prominent wood like wenge in a through body neck. Ultimately I don't think neck construction type could be used as a reliable indicator of what an instrument could sound like, by itself. Having only ever owned and played one bass with a glued in neck, I can't really comment but it felt a lot like a neck through to me.
Before I vote, I really must insist on another poll question: "What is the minimum number of strings for an ERB?" You could call a 5-string ERB if you wanted to - it has an extra string, after all... but for me, a 7 is quite normal... so where do we draw the line? I'm pretty much in favour of the forum, but not if we're going to be all vague about it...
I think that probably underlines the point I made earlier about dividing the community.
Its home and I've hardly put it down. I told Jon I wanted something that sounded like my 78 P bass but played like my stingray. Well so far it sounds as good if not better than The P Bass, Its got the extra Jazz PU to give me a bit more flexility and it plays fantastic! Way better than the stingray. It even slaps better (not that I undulge in much slapping - just Areoplane in guitar shops ) I've only tried it on my practice amp at the moment. Can't wait to unleash it on the Ashown rig in the week  Compared to the P Bass, its as light as a feather too.
Nice result
Personally i don't want Basschat to get like Talkbass or Dudepit where there so many different forums it just looks and feels messy. I mean, if we assume that ERB is 7+ (when i was playing 6's i didn't wanna talk about 6 string bass, i wanted to talk about bass), theres gotta be maybe 5 or so people with those instruments, then we'll need a forum for stick players, then one for 5 string upright players, it just gets a bit silly. Si
I tend agree with Sibob that we DO have quite a lot of forums at the moment. I'm comfortable with the number we have as they're all well used. I would be a little reluctant to start making distinctions between types of basses because it would divide the community rather than encourage its integrity.
Good Times-Chic Everybody needs somebody-Blues Brothers
+1 Pretty much anything that charted by Chic is a sure fire winner. Same for any soul numbers that appeared on the Blues Bros too. Whoever selected the songs for that movie really knew their zeitgeist.

Welcome Paul. I'm guessing not everyone in Lowestoft likes The Darkness then?
Agreed but this kind of thread always worries me because it so easily (on some forums) collapses into claim and counter-claim and so unofficial trial by internet.
So long as everyone sticks to the established facts and avoids making any unfounded speculations (which DOES happen on other forums) then I don't envisage there being a problem with just showing support. In any case, if there is legal action pending I suspect that both parties would be reluctant in saying anything more in case it jeopardises their respective cases.

Its good to see so much support for Steve here.

is this thread just for Fenders or other kinds of jazz basses?

You can always ask DHA for some help if you need it, this is the sort of thing we set that forum to handle. Let me know if you would like the post moved.

There's something distinctly 80's about a heavily chorused stingray, isn't there?
I always use Rustins Plastic coating. You can spray coats at 15min intervals. And it buffs to a mirror. Plus it is so tough, its unbelievable.
Chop do you think its feasible to use it to coat a fretless fingerboard?
That's a new one .. Can you expand on that a little?
Soft treble and prominent upper mids mainly. The sort of sound that takes the brittleness off a jazz bass and makes the bridge pickup sound fatter.

I played a gig through one of the MB 121H combos at The Bedford in Balham, it was certainly loud and very portable which was a revelation. But still had that rubber bandy quality to the sound even when I set it flat and the controls were awkward to get to in a pinch on a darkened stage. I thought that the amp was about 70% of the way in terms of its design. A bit of a shame really, otherwise I would have taken it over my much less portable GK RB700's. Who knows though, I might end up playing a bass which the MB gear is perfect for and certainly wouldn't discount it.

Found this Roscoe which has the maple fingerboard and flamed redwood top with black hardware too. This MTD has the mahogany body, redwood facing and dark stripe veneer. Looks pretty good!
