1. I feel the same way on and off, thought picking up a 2nd hand Peavey Grind 6 and then swapping out the electronics if I like it was the best plan
2. Battery by Metallica is a very underrated use of root / octave playing
3. To fund my latest purchase I've got to move a couple of things on [s]Boss AW-3 dynamic Autowah A good sounding and versatile Autowah pedal, inputs for guitar and bass; up, down and sharp modes for different tones of wah; a tap tempo mode and coolest of all a vocaliser. It's also got an input for an expression pedal to turn it into a rocker wah. I bought this on a whim a few years ago when I got a tax rebate, but have barely used it (I swiftly came to the realisation that the pedal alone won't make me sound like Flea) so it's in as new condition - I think I've gigged it twice and taken it up a jam night a couple of times. These are going for £110 at Anderton's at the moment so I'm asking a respectable: £50.00 + p&p [/s] SOLD Dod FX91 bass overdrive A good sounding overdrive kind of Timmy C sound, the controls are volume, blend, tone and drive; the blend and tone controls are very useful to keep you from dropping out the mix. This has been gigged, but is in good condition, box is a bit tatty though. £35.00 delivered I'll try and get photos up tonight
4. I played the Download Festival a couple of years ago, does that mean I've played with Faith No More, Slipknot and Def Leppard?
5. It is nice that he feels that he's got enough money and doesn't need to flog the carcass of Queen for whatever he can get, unlike May / Taylor. Anyone remember the collaboration with Five for example?
6.
Crazy little thing called love is fretless, always a fretless P I presume? Obviously another bites the dust is his most famous Ray track but there are others, good old fashioned lover boy I think is another. If you listen closely I'd say there are quite a few Rays recorded regardless of what he plays in the videos or live where he does seem to favour the P, I miss JD
He uses a Ray on Tie Your Mother Down, or at least the video for it
7. I went to the Park Resorts camp in Camber a couple of weeks ago for our family holiday and was slightly offended by the house band having no bass player, they were a 3 piece - vocals, guitar and drums with sequence bass and keys. Strange thing is though the few tracks I saw were all quite bass heavy, with the guitarist playing minimal FX laden parts
8. It doesn't help that they're not a very well known brand, I've been having trouble selling my custom be4 even though most Warwick / Spector fans would love it if they got they're hands on it, Im thinking about withdrawing mine as it's too good to let go at a silly price. The market is dead at the moment, so unless you want to take a fairly big hit on value you might be waiting a while for a sale. One thing you might want to do is try taking it up to Bass Direct and get them to do a comission sale, as they stock Mayones anyway and know what they're talking about - I was planning on doing this last year until I needed it for a recording project which has since dropped off. I will say though, I played a Jabba before ordering my be4 and it was very nice, I came very close to ordering one of those instead and tbh now, I think I would. I'll bet yours sounds great with the Delanos in it too.
9. Well? What bass was it? Finish? Fretboard wood? Backline if he was using it and pedalbaord if you could see it? Don't leave us hanging for details
10. Bump for the weekend
11.
Might be worth trying a great guy, member called Peety, lives in Wigan. He was looking to move one of his 2 Glaubs on, then changed his mind. You can but ask, he's a great guy and wont bite. Of course, if he only wants to sell, 1st dibs on offering yours . Whaddya mean ulterior motive
Was that the one black, one sunburst? If so, I've already spoken to him and he too prefers a wider neck, cheers though. Gigged it again at the weekend and if a Bob G doesn't turn up or if I try one and don't like it I'll be happy to keep this, still looking to trade at the moment though.
12.
Hold out and find a Bob G they are just great basses better than a hell of a lot of Fenders if had.
That was my first instinct and what I hope to find
13. Hi all, Although I'm very happy with my Lakland Duck Dunn, I foolishly played a mate's '79 Precision a couple of weeks ago which made me think I prefer wider necks and after A/Bing with my L2000 I've come to the conclusion that this is the case. I love the tone and aesthetics of the DD and can cope with the narrower neck OK, but the thought that there is something out there which will suit me better has got me tentatively putting it up for trade. It's a Skyline model Duck Dunn signature which has been professionally modded to have a matched Lindy Fralin jazz pickup at the bridge, the input jack moved to the side (to facilitate the extra volume control) and a (currently un-used) battery compartment fitted. The control configuration is VVT. I think what I'm after is a Skyline Bob Glaub with a Lindy Fralin - as I think the pickup is a big part of what I love about the tone so much, but I guess it doesn't have to be a Lakland, just a good quality P with the aforementioned pickup in it. The trade would be dependent on us getting together and trying out each other's basses as I've not played a Bob Glaub before - but on paper it's what I'm after; so I'm hoping there's someone out there with a BG who prefers narrower necks. I'm not looking for any other trades or a cash sale as I don't want to be left with no bass waiting for the right deal to come up, cheers, cash adjustment either way is possible for the right deal. This was originally owned by OBBM who had the mods done (by The Gallery in Camden I believe), it then went to Old Horse Murphy before passing to me, so if you want a second opinion on it, ask either of those guys. I've pinched OBBM's photos from the gear porn thread for now, but if anyone wants more photos from any other angle let me know and I'll get them up.
14. Sadowsky offer to reverse the pickup on their 5-string precisions, maybe that would work? Of course, if the coil for the bass side is closer to the bridge that might cause other problems.
15. You don't come down south ever do you mate? Would suggest my Mayones for a trade but Lancashire's too far to travel.
16.
Ohhhh Duck Dunn with a jazz in GAS attack
It sounds fantastic, it looks amazing; I've just come to the conclusion I prefer wider necks is all.
17.
Noooooo Don't do it Steve If you want two differnet basses stick a jazz pickup in one. These basses are just so so playable (even with the e dropped with a hipshot) i have a cupboard full of basses costing twice as much and still pull this one out most. If you go down the Jazz pickup route give me a shout i may be able to help out. S
If that's what you want to do, I've been thinking about trading my Duck Dunn for a Bob Glaub as I prefer a wider neck and my DD has a matched Lindy Fralin jazz pickup at the bridge. Drop me a line if you're interested though I'm not 100% on this

SOLD

That's a great price, if I had some money spare I'd be all over this, can't see it being around too long
19. You bought two 24 fret Ibanez's without realising?
20.
The neck is what swayed me, i believe it's the same as on the 50's reissue, so it's quite wide (44mm at the nut) thick 'C' shape, but very easy to get around. Alder body. Fit and finish is top notch. It's a massive sounding rig, I have a lot of gigs with the cab now and I cannot see me getting rid of it.
cheers fella, food for thought
21. I paid about £50 for it, so not the end of the world if I don't see much back for it, but if we're getting down to about £30 I might donate it to my local jam night - rather people were playing and enjoying it than sitting un-played. Either that, or put it on Ebay with a £0.99 starting bid
22. I bought a de-fretted 70's Japanese jazz copy by Avon a couple of years ago, when I got it I found the electronics didn't work properly so it sat in the corner of my room un-played for quite a while, Recently I've had one of the electronics engineers at work sort out it out - new input jack, new pots, wiring on the neck pickup sorted it and it now works fine. It actually sounds and plays pretty decent - fairly wide neck for a jazz, more like a P which is to my taste but I've never really clicked with the fretless thing so it's just carried on being un-played and now we've moved to a flat, it's been left in it's case at my parents. If I had use for a fretless, I'd quite happily keep it, but I can't see in point at this stage So I'm looking to move it on, but have no idea of the value, I'm assuming pretty low but it would be nice to know where to price it, so does anyone have a ballpark figure? Whoever de-fretted it, did a pretty decent job and unsurprisingly for a 40 year old instrument there are dings in it; there's still a couple of issues - the bridge could do with a clean, though works fine, the nut doesn't look great and one of the inlays could do with being re-glued as it buzzes when that fret is played - though this is in-audible through an amplifier. I've got most of the dings in the below pictures so I hope that helps give an honest value. Cheers guys,
23. Sorry to hi-jack the thread for a moment, what's the neck like on your Roger Waters? Also, is it ash or alder? Cheers fella, I'll bet that rig sounds immense.
