1.
The neck is what swayed me, i believe it's the same as on the 50's reissue, so it's quite wide (44mm at the nut) thick 'C' shape, but very easy to get around. Alder body. Fit and finish is top notch. It's a massive sounding rig, I have a lot of gigs with the cab now and I cannot see me getting rid of it.
cheers fella, food for thought
2. I paid about £50 for it, so not the end of the world if I don't see much back for it, but if we're getting down to about £30 I might donate it to my local jam night - rather people were playing and enjoying it than sitting un-played. Either that, or put it on Ebay with a £0.99 starting bid
3. I bought a de-fretted 70's Japanese jazz copy by Avon a couple of years ago, when I got it I found the electronics didn't work properly so it sat in the corner of my room un-played for quite a while, Recently I've had one of the electronics engineers at work sort out it out - new input jack, new pots, wiring on the neck pickup sorted it and it now works fine. It actually sounds and plays pretty decent - fairly wide neck for a jazz, more like a P which is to my taste but I've never really clicked with the fretless thing so it's just carried on being un-played and now we've moved to a flat, it's been left in it's case at my parents. If I had use for a fretless, I'd quite happily keep it, but I can't see in point at this stage So I'm looking to move it on, but have no idea of the value, I'm assuming pretty low but it would be nice to know where to price it, so does anyone have a ballpark figure? Whoever de-fretted it, did a pretty decent job and unsurprisingly for a 40 year old instrument there are dings in it; there's still a couple of issues - the bridge could do with a clean, though works fine, the nut doesn't look great and one of the inlays could do with being re-glued as it buzzes when that fret is played - though this is in-audible through an amplifier. I've got most of the dings in the below pictures so I hope that helps give an honest value. Cheers guys,
4. Sorry to hi-jack the thread for a moment, what's the neck like on your Roger Waters? Also, is it ash or alder? Cheers fella, I'll bet that rig sounds immense.
5. You planning on having the bridge P pickup the normal way round or reversing it? I love the idea of a P / reverse P wired for stereo.
6. Thanks guys, it went really well
7. 'Night before my wedding' bump
8. To chuck my 2p in, my old Hartke model 2000 sounded fantastic through an Ampeg 4x10, a 2nd hand one should be within your budget
9. That was The Enemy then? Shocked they're still about to be honest, I remember liking a couple of tracks off their first record despite the rampant Paul Weller worship
10. Check out the track 'The Lines In My Hand' from the new Opeth record, Mendez got that great overdrive sound from one of these
11. Very tempting sir, but whilst it makes me feel shallow, the colour just isn't for me
12. I love my Fafner, absolutely adore the sound; but I keep looking at these and think if I traded in my Fafner and proline 4x10 I could get a Reidmar and maybe a Barefaced Compact and if I then ran an EBS Valvedrive in the fx loop would I get the same, or at least a close approximation of the tone? I do keep thinking I'll miss the bright switch as I leave that on pretty much permanently. Any thoughts?
13. Price drop to £745.00 Anyone with a Skyline Bob Glaub fancy a change of scene?
14. That's not David from East Grinstead is it? If so, I thought you'd settled on Nordstrands?
Intriguing offer but that's not really what I'm looking for, thanks though Graham
No worries fella, have a bump
16.
..if she let's you, you mean...
Well..................yes.
17. That's great, thanks. I'm getting married next week so can't get to your neck of the woods right now, but I'll get in contact about a date that suits us both soon
18. The finish? Yeah a dark red; it was previously owned by a couply of Basschat members and I think it was OBBM(?) who had it modified by the Gallery in Camden to have a matched Lindy Fralin jazz pickup added at the bridge and a (currently unused) battery compartment added. I'm not sure if the black pcik-guard is aftermarket too, might be.
19. Is there anyone in the Kent / Sussex / Surrey area who owns a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub and wouldn't mind me coming over and trying it out? Or possibly even further afield, depending on where you are. I'm coming to the conclusion that as much as I love the tone and aesthetics of my Duck Dunn, I would prefer a wider neck so a Bob Glaub strikes me as a sensible alternative. In an ideal world it would be an ash / maple rather than as alder / rosewood; but either way would love to give it a spin. I'll come armed with beer / wine / chocolate / dohnuts as applicable and any of my gear you might want to try - see my sig Cheers, Graham
20. Adverting on behalf of a friend, Marshall 4x10 bass combo with Dynamic Bass System. been gigged, but in good working order, sounds great - had a deep, but still punchy tone when I played through it. It's been a while since I've played this amp so I can't remember all the features, and once he lets me know the model number I'll put that up, but the bottom line is that this is a good, working man's amp that gets the job done well. £400.00 collected, or will deliver in the Crawley area. Any questions just ask and I'll find out for you
21. I'd love to play Anchor by Cave In, just a great, straight-up rock song; but I can't see it being very well known by most pub / club audiences and we all know how fickle people can be about dancing to songs they don't know
