1. The Cab is now sold. Rather reluctant sale this, some of you will remember from an earlier thread I'm moving to a smaller house and sadly wont have space for this rig, as much as I love it. It's a superb sounding pro rig in what I'd call "as new" condition, there's a little damage to the rack case but everything else is absolutely fine, as if it had just left the factory. The amp has a very musical sounding on-board compressor, a tube drive section and the defeatable EBS filters with the bright control and deep / bright switches. The tube-drive has a character switch which keeps more of the low end in your tone - very useful. The filters in the EQ section are the best I've come across and a little bit goes a long-way - the controls are bass / semi-parametric mid / treble. It's the older single channel model, but having read some peoples comments on how the newer version is a lot more complicated I see this as no bad thing. It's 600 watts at 2 Ohm, and will do any impedance between 2 and 8, the cab is 4 Ohm with an adjustable tweeter and I've never had to crank the amp hard to get it loud enough - plenty of headroom here. It's got all the usual features, FX loop, tuner out, front-mounted XLR-out with ground-lift and pre/post EQ switch It's been professionally modded by Bernie Goodfellow of GB Guitars / EBS UK distributor to replace the bulb next to the tube with an LED cluster so you'll never need to replace the bulb. It's a remarkably versatile amp that will do pretty much any tone you need I - used to use it in a death metal band and now use it with a covers / function act, and it handles both really well. I'm looking for £750.00 for the head and £350.00 for the cab or a snip at £1000.00 for whole rig. I wasn't planning on including the Phonics power conditioner / light unit in the sale, but I'm open to negotiations on that. Would consider part-ex for a Barefaced Super 12T, a Genz Neox 2x12, a Genz Benz Streamliner, Gallien Kruger MB Fusion 500 or an EBS Reidmar. The amp is in East Grinstead, West Sussex and you're welcome to come and try it out and collect from there, or I'll deliver within 30 miles of RH19 for petrol expenses. Unfortunately these are the best photos I have right now, but I'll get some better ones up as soon as I can.
2. It's nowhere near you, but incase anyone more local is reading, The Crow's Nest in East Grinstead has a good one every Tuesday.
3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
4. I wouldn't expect to ship anything until after I'd received the money and everything I've bought and sold on here has been a case of payment before shipping.
5. In the unlikely event it's still here after the house move is done and we've got over the crippling cost of that I might have another think about this, gah temptation is a terrible thing. That all said, I can't see it hanging around that long.
6. I played one of these in Denmark Street a few .years back and it was very good
7. Good to know, as I can't think of a situation where I'd need 900 watts of power
8. Interesting, thought Wasting Light had a much gritier tone than previous records and put that down to the all valve head
9. Is this what Nate Mendel used on the new Foos record? Loved the bass tone on that
10. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this as I've been looking at the Youtube videos of the Streamliner - particularly the Ed Friedland video and a Streamliner 6 is now the front-runner in my to try list. Is there any difference between the Streamliner 600 and 900 apart from the power?
11. If I wasn't moving house I'd have probably succumbed to temptation and bought this.
12.
Because the notion of 'getting all the watts out of my amp', as wrong as it is,
At the risk of opening a can of worms, why is that wrong? Cheers,
13. Interesting, I've never played a Genz so would like to give a shuttle and Streamliner a go, Eden too
14. Cheers mate, I'm planning on replacing my EBS Fafner and Proline 4x10 with (I'm thinking) a Super 12T and a micro head - I like a deep but articulate tone with a strong lower mid presence, you come across anything that ticks those boxes?
15.
Ha ha I hear you brother!! As The Dood knows, I'm coming at this from the other way having been a Barefaced Super Twelve owner for the last couple of months, but still looking for the ideal lightweight head to go with it and the GB stuff interests me no end. The BST is an amazing cab, especially for its weight and size and makes a welcome break from lugging around less powerful yet much heavier 4x10s. At the mo I've resorted back to my Ashdown EVO II 900 head (which weighs much more than the BST cab!) and have recently tried out the Class D version of the EVO III in the form of the Ashdown ABM 1000 with my BST which sounds just as good without weighing a ton, but would love to know if the GB Streamliner 900 can produce the same depth and warmth that I can get with my old trusty EVO II. I've seen the stuff on YouTube which suggests it could, but as ever it's down to how the pudding tastes. I've tried a number of lightweight heads so far but nothing comes close to the tone I like from the EVO II + BST combination so I hope Alex goes into overdrive at Barefaced and gets your cab to you sooner rather than later!!
You used a Gallien Kruger MB Fusion with the Barefaced by any chance?
16. I was going to say check your cables too, I thought I had a fault with my EBS before I realised I'd used the same cable each time and that was fortunately where the problem lay
17. Isn't saying bass players should like funk and reggae like suggesting guitarists should love Paul Gilbert and drummers Dream Theater?
18. Interesting, do post the reply from Ernie Ball if / when you get one
19.
I am falling more in love with every single Wal I hear... If anyone in the south east has a lefty please let me know, I would love a noodle so I can convince myself I don't like it...
There was a band called Blind Eye Fury from Brighton - their bass player used a lefty Wal - I forget which model, MK II maybe. The bass player was a pretty decent bloke by the name of Steve Dickson, maybe try and get in contact through Facebook or something? I daresay he'd let you have a noodle for a couple of beers or something
20. That's a gorgeous finish and a great price for an '08 model Precision
21. It's funny, I've found a similar thing myself and observed it in others, you start off on a Squire Precision, then discover exotic woods, active pickups and extended range instruments before giving a 4 string jazz ago until you give up, come full circle and just buy a decent precision
22.
Aye, the Dunn has a jazz neck. Hold onto that one until you are ready to go. When you do sell, put it out at good money, they are desirable and rarely come up. Amps, get a Barefaced, Schroeder, whatever, cab, and a Class D micro head. You will be amazed! Good luck.
Aye, that's the plan......unless I can persuade you to part with your bob glaub Karl?
23. Cheers guys, you are right and I'll get the Shuker one day. The Lakland in question is a Skyline Duck Dunn which sounds fantastic but the neck isn't quite right for me, hence the desire for a custom but it's far from un-payable so I'll stick with that for now. Been looking at small amp solutions and you never know, might end up liking it more (thinking an Eden WT550 into a Barefaced Super 12T might be a good combination) or, as you say I might find space for the EBS. Been trying to look on the brightside a bit more.
24. So today's been remarkably disapointing, after a long time trying to sell it, a couple of weeks ago I managed to sell my old Mayones through Gumtree and got a good price for it, I was then able to sell my jazz bass to a mate and if I were to then sell my Lakland (which shouldn't be hard) I'd be able to afford to get Jon Shuker to build me the Precision of my dreams and have been in discussions with him about it. However, my wife and I have been trying to move back to the town we used to live in so we'd be closer to our parents and friends and would be able to get a lot more support with the children and today we found out we can get a house we've been looking at renting. The downside is the sheer number of fees and that the deposit being over twice the deposit on the flat we're in now, means I'm going to have to spend the bulk of what I made from selling the two basses on the deposit, writing off the custom build for the forseeable future. I know a house is more important, I know it's what my wife wants (I want to move back too, but it's less important to me) and it is the right decision, but I do feel really sad that I thought I was going to have a bass built that ticked every box - wood, neck profile, electronics, finish etc and now it just isn't going to happen, certainly not for quite a while. I had a day booked off next Monday to go to GAK, Guitar Guitar in Epsom and Andertons to go try several basses out to confirm the ideal neck profile for me not sure if there's any point to that now. Also, as land prices in the south east in general and specifically in East Grinstead are a joke, the house we'll be moving to is smaller than the flat we're in now so I'll probably have to get rid of my beloved EBS rig and get something smaller. Sorry for lowering the tone, but just thought I'd vent to people who would understand.
25. I wish I could remember what they were called, but I saw an awful Rammstein tribute a couple of years ago. Guitarist was barely in time, fronted by an out of tune, chubby goth with a lass on bass who was there presumably because she was willing to wear a short skirt. They were opening for Mentallica who were quite fun and High On Maiden who were great at the Agincourt in Camberley.
