2.
Why is Scotland too far ? You'd be amazed how cheap the trains can be. I traded a bass earlier in the year with a guy in Scotland. I don't like posting basses, neither does he. So we agreed that I'd travel up, we split my train fare which was about £80.
Cheapest train - £170. I'd have to stay overnight too. If it was in the summer I'd take time off and make a week of it but at the moment that's not really an option. Thanks for the advice though.
3. Hi all, I've been offered a trade of a bass that I really want by a new BC member. He has sent me pics which I've checked and they aren't from the internet. The problem is that he is is Scotland so it's a bit far for me to pick up. How can I cover myself in this trade, obviously I can't wait for money to clear or use paypal as I am sending a bass in return. I was thinking of us both arranging the courier that picks up the bass we each are going to have, but this still leaves room for scammage. FWIW I think the guy is genuine, but how can I be extra safe? Thanks for any advice!
4.
That'll be Cylchfan, won't it! I couldn't understand anything of the first few lines and only got it when I spotted "deg" and "hafau" and then "dau deg pedwar". My Welsh doesn't really go beyond numbers and seasons! (So I had to get some help to write the title in Welsh. Btw, I thought the thread was about a Yes tribute band that kept splitting up.
ydw!
5.
I want your love - Chic. Well if youve dipped your toe in the 2 EQ MusicMan waters, it'd be rude not to do some 'Nard. When I get the flats on, it'll be awesome...
Funny enough, I was watching an episode of 'Rockschool' this morning and Bernard was on there saying how he didn't like the sound of flatwounds! I'll find it again and stick it on the 'What Strings?' thread.
6. I'm interested!!!
7.
If I had a Yes tribute band I'd call it one of the following names: Yeah Why Not? Maybe NO!!!! HMMM OK Affirmative Sure Yep Ah Ha (you might have problems with this one) Could do Alright Indeed
I'd call it 'Ydw' and sing all the songs in Welsh! Guess the song! Yn ac o amgylch y llyn, mynyddoedd yn dod allan o'r awyr, ac maent yn sefyll yno. Un filltir dros ac mi fyddwn ni yno ac fe wnawn ni eich gweld. Deg hafau a byddwn yn dychwelyd ac yn chwerthin hefyd. ar dau deg pedwar cyn fy nghariad i Mi fyddai yno i chi!
8. I think this guy has put it on at this price just to get some offers and see what people want to pay without commiting to it.
9. Do I Do - Stevie Wonder and the Gladys Knight version of 'Heard it on the Grapevine'.
10. Someone heard you!
11.
Most of the gigs I do, turn round [s]too[/s] quickly enough and you brain the guitarist . Karl.
Fixed!
12.
My 1984 Westone Thunder III - second "proper" bass (the first one was a Thunder 1A). In its 26th year and going strong. EDIT: Thinking about it, I would actually have no objection in principle to selling this bass, problem is that no-one would pay the money I’d want for it.
Try me!
13.
Even split. Unless you're working with Axel Rose.
...........and in that case, pay him less than the others
14. I bought a set of XL half rounds to use on my fretless about a months ago and at first they sounded amazing but have very quickly lost their tone and I can actually see where I have been fretting against the string as it's very dull in those parts compared to the rest of the string. Is this usual for these strings or did I get a duff set?
15. It is a tad expensive so it's a good job they've put loads of info about it and pics up isn't it?
16.
I've just spotted his ebay-name. It rings a bell but I can't remember from what... of course it doesn't help that all his past listings are private.
He sells (usually) ludicrously over priced stuff. If you look at any thread here laughing at how much something cost there's a fair chance it's him.
17. This month, any amount is too much - got to pay out for Glastonbury tickets innit?
18. Sexy! But a little too much monies for me I'd put this on the Westone forums too.
19. Personally, I prefer his playing on the Gladys Knight version. They're all good though!
20. Shame this is in the states - it's a lovely Vantage
21. The ones I own currently are in my sig, but here's a list of all of 'em: (In order of owning) Westone Concord (that I covered in pages from Melody Maker and varnished!) Ibanez Studio - heavy as hell but I wish I still had Pearl white Riverhead Unicorn - pre-owned by Dave Pegg! BASS BREAK Crafter stingray abomination - lightest bass ever due to being (probably) from polystyrene. Burns Bison - suited the band I was in Hohner fretless headless. Westone Thunder 1A - beauty! Yamaha BB300 Shine SB35 - wanted to try a 5iver Ibanez Roadster Fretless - best sounding bass I've ever owned Westone Superheadless - superheadless, supercool! That's it - until I see a Thunder III. Or an Ibanez Studio Or an affordable Aria Pro II Or something else interesting!
22.
If your gear is second hand how do you prove that you've owned it if it gets stolen? I have stuff I've traded for/bought on ebay that I don't have invoices/receipts for.
Take a photo of yourself with the gear and a photo of any serial numbers too. If you bought it off of ebay or online you should have paypal and email receipts/correspondence to prove you bought it, though I don't think it is too likely you will have to prove it - I never have.
23.
Does this constitute bad plywood? This might polarise opinion among non-fans of playable furniture... J.
Love it! Never seen a 2 part bridge like that either. What is it? The knobs look Aria Pro II-ish
