Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
chaypup replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I THINK I like this Tokai, but then I'm not so sure.... -
I play in a blues / rock / psychadelica / etc trio (mostly covers, some originals) and we're about to start gigging ... but are stuck on what to wear on stage. If it helps, our band is called "The Rude Grooves" and we're using 70's porn movie posters as the basis for our promos (which actually works out a bit classier than you might think). I am no fashion diva, but I know we want to dress a little different / better than the audience... but not so much we're doing the 60s / 70s hippy thing, or end up wearing suits. G/f is not much help as she varies between 'you look good in anything', 'what about this?' (showing horrendous outfit found via google) and 'if you look too good for other women, I'll kill you'. Maybe some examples from other people will help? Oh ... and I'm (ahem) almost 40, our drummer is tattooed and pierced and in his 20s, guitar player / singer is a dead ringer for one of the Proclaimers and in his early 20s.
In the ska band, it's easy - we wear black and white and pork pie hats. In the funk band, anything so long as it's shiny.

Any Meters track has groove aplenty, but right now I'm seriously digging Hey Pocky A-Way And Sly Stone's 'In Time' is crazily simple AND complex at the same time - love it!

Motown - recommended listening? Yes.

Good site! Looking forward to seeing you guys on Saturday in Cardiff!

I used to have one of Dave Pegg's old basses - it was a pearl Riverhead that he'd had defretted. Very nice it was too!

Hi, I was lucky enough to find and buy this super headless only a few weeks ago, thinking that I would love it as much as my Thunder 1A. Unfortunately, I don't! It's a great bass but it doesn't have the same feel as the Thunder. What I really really really want is a Thunder IIA or III so I have the feel of the Thunder IA but with added sustain and an extra pickup! So are there any Westone lovers out there who have a spare Thunder IIA or III and want to add this Super Headless to their collection? I will add pics later when I'm at home, but for now here's the link to some I took when I bought it. Cheers!
What excellent taste you have - superheadless and a dotty blue theme. Here's my contribution to the same thing. Your logos may be gone due to wear and tear? Mine are jazz types so I can't advise on your version.
Checked it out - no logos on these covers. Nice bass!
What's wrong with the stringing process?
Single ball end strings - so you have to feed them through the holes at the end and pull them all at the same time to keep some tension while refitting the bar with your other hand. It's tricky! Unless someone knows of an easier way.....

My new baby - A Super Headless As a point of interest, my pick up covers do not have the logo on them - are they meant to? It's a 1988 version. Cheers!

Got myself a Westone Super Headless off of Gumtree yesterday.....pups need a respray but other than that, sounds and looks amazing! Came with the original case too! Will take more photos when I've done the pups - which i'm not in a hurry to do because re-stringing is a NIGHTMARE!!!!

Thunder 1A in good condition, strung with new fender flatwounds if that makes any difference to ya. Will come in a gig bag too and well packaged etc if you need it posting. I said I'd always keep this but another beaut has popped up and I need to fund buying that! Luckily it's another Westone so I don't feel like too much of a traitor.... Questions/viewings welcome

Such a shame that a large chunk of the videos have been removed by youtube - could you please post the Artist/track title alongside the title so at least if they are removed we can still look them up! Anyway - here's one of my favourites. Gwen McRae - All this love.
