Headlined the Oxjam takeover day in Cardiff. Had a quick rehearsal beforehand to teach the drummer new tunes and remind everyone of structures of a couple that we hadn't played in a while. And ...wow. We had 3 singers and an MC and we tore the roof off! Made up new arrangements on the fly and the crowd were going nuts for it... quote of the night was "every time I see you guys my face hurts from grinning so much!" Why is it so hard to find decent brass players?
chaypup replied to shizznit's topic in General Discussion
Don't bother with getting brass band players - they can't improvise or work things out by ear. In Cardiff I just checked out the jazz scene and approached players I liked. Through that I got to know the students on the Jazz course at RWMCD and they are EXCELLENT. I could recommend some people if you like as long as you don't thieve from my brass section! -

Here's a link to a doctor's in Portsmouth that will do the medical. Looks like blood tests are the big cost. http://www.privategp...k/carnival.html Edit: A lonk? A link!

A flipping amazing gig at our own night in Gwdihw on Friday! Gigged my Daion Fretless for the first time, sounded great and allowed me to go a bit crazy on the solos too The band were brilliant as were our guest singers and Mc's but best of all were the full choir I got in to join us on 'I am the Black Gold of the Sun' Blew everyone completely away, still grinning now!

SuperChango are playing the nextin our series of takeover gigs in Gwdihw, Cardiff. This time we're going a bit Jazz/Funk/Latin/Psychedelic groove crazy, and we have a full choir in, a flashmob of electro-swing dancers and a zoo of neon animals - will be a top night and would LOVE to see some basschatters there! First one to add to this thread gets on the guest list! THIS FRIDAY!

Not really jazz but I love this cover of 'Is This Love?' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31OJYXW3V5M -
Run Leia Run played the Grosvenor in Stockwell last night. Our first outing there and they head us headlining. In true headline act style-ee we managed to be an hour late for our soundcheck (work and South London Traffic got in the way as well as the guitarist doubling back when he realised he'd left the oven at home ).
I'd love to know how your guitarist uses an oven live!

LOVE this tune! Thanks for putting it up, I was just deciding the set for our 'phreak out' gig next month - this is going to be in it!
Apparently not the charming suburb of Cardiff.
Or the small town in Shropshire.
My current drummer (and a bloody good one too) is a 25 year old female - infinitely more huggable than all of the tub thumping Neanderthals I've had the misfortune to play with over the years.....
Is that Rhi?

Which Whitchurch?
Personally I've gone the other route: a small USB audio interface into the laptop. Means the bass sound is raw, but you can, if you've got time, work out how to pipe it through a VST or two. They've dropped in price since the early days. I can't comment on quality, but this seems like pretty good value: http://www.dv247.com...nterface--38128 You can then also record what you're playing if you want.
+1 This is how I do silent practice.
