What's the going rate for New Year's Eve? We'll be running the whole night but will be paid a set amount rather than taking the door. 9 piece band plus dj's (2 of whom are in the band) with the venue paying the sound guy, and door staff. Capacity is about 180. I was thinking £1500 - that about right?

Wedding gig last night in Bristol. Well I say gig... There were loads of muso's in attaendence so the groom formed secret 'supergroups' by giving people a song to learn about a week ago and then last night when we went on stage we found out who we were playing with! I got 'Tightrope' by Janelle Monae - great track and a lovely bassline. Got to play with some really cool people and all the 'bands' were really good considering no-one had had the chance to rehearse.

Great gig in Cardiff last night, although the neck of my bass got really sticky to to sweat which made things a bit tricky. Crowd loved us and considering we hadn't rehearsed for a few weeks we smashed it! Only downside was mangeress trying it on saying we'd only played 2 half hour sets! We informed her that record all our gigs and we'd sit with her in her office through the whole thing again to prove that we'd actually closer to 2 hours! Swansea next week!

I have this track to learn for a dep gig. I usually play fingerstyle and only some very basic slap. I'm not sure where to begin with this one - can't work out the correct popping rhythm at all and I can't find any playalong videos or tutorials for this rhythm. Anyone able to help? Thanks!
Hey. Pretty interested in this. Is it short scale? And will it keep up volume wise unplugged with an acoustic guitar (I play with a pick)?
It feels medium scale, but I will check it out. I keep up with acoustic guitar and (un-mic'd) vocals easily playing fingerstyle, so with a pick it will be even more so. -
HI, up for sale is my Eko Florence electro-acoustic. I don't know a huge amount about these, and there's not much info available in internet land. Apparently these were put together by the new Chinese factory by parts taken from the Italian factory where they had been left when it had closed in 1987, but, I don't know if there is any truth to that story (I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me soon enough!) In any case, it sounds nice and loud acoustically and has a nice mellow sound through an amp. Selling as I don't play it enough and it just lives in it's case, which is also included in the sale. There are a couple of very minor dinks in the front which haven't come out in the photo's. Just say if you'd like a close-up of these. Otherwise, it's all perfect.
I liked #8... I went to see a well-known folk-rocker last year, and I heard him say stuff I'd seen directly quoted in a newspaper review of a London gig a week earlier. IMO, that's going a little far with the choreography, Richard.
95% of acts do this. All that 'ad-lib' stuff in between songs? All rehearsed and worked out.
It was like two different shows - he opened with the Damon Albarn stuff from the new 'atmospheric' album & then kicked him off stage and came back, resplendent in matching red leather suit, hat & shows & launched into the 'classics' set. The second half was a different world, gutsier singing, funkier playing from the band (although maybe not as good as previous bands I've seen with him) and an all round proper soul legend performance. Even had the wonderful Altrinna Grayson on backing vocals
Do you know who the bassist is?

That bassline on '110th Street' - my favourite kind of busy, bubbling sound - beautiful! ...and Danny DeVito on percussion too!

Could do this, depending on which 3 notes you want.

Why would you be watching Mumford when BOBBY WOMACK is on at the same time?? Gave me goosebumps.
