It's against the law to charge a fee for a card or a different method of payment.

Sadly the Big Guy didn't make it. It doesn't make economic sense to repair. Once we got it apart, it became obvious that the neck had come unglued once before and been repaired by someone using PVA and the wrong clamps. This was probably either my old man or his bass-playing mate, neither of whom are around to ask any more. This failure caused a lot of damage to both the neck and the socket, with bits of one ripped off and stuck to the other. The cost of what I would call a bodge repair, to clean off the worst of the glue and shove it back together with a couple of large screws, was more than the value of the bass. And there would still be the question of the dodgy peg box repair. An almost identical bass with a similar ghastly repair and a non-dodgy pegbox sold on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for £125 quid. So I've obtained a second-hand Stentor student bass as a replacement, which is being set up instead. The strings, tailpiece and endpin are being transferred across, Peter is going to use the fingerboard to make violin bits out of and I have the body which I am contemplating turning into a bookshelf or cocktail cabinet.

Jaw droppingly good albums for bass players to hear
pete.young replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
Truly jaw-dropping? Only this really - the first time I heard what could be done other than root-fifth on a bass guitar. -
Rally instruments, the high-end range such as this one, were made through a combination of Dae Won Instruments from Korea and Dalian Da Yuan in China. The same factory in China also made high end instruments for Ozark, Ashbury, Kentucky, Morgan Monroe and Pilgrim amongst others. Dae Won has now closed down and their website, www.straus.co.kr has disappaeared, since some time in 2017 according to the wayback machine. It seems that no-one else has taken over from Dae Won so most of the brands have lost their high-end signature product lines. I have a Rally DFM90 which is similar to this but with F-holes and an ebony fingerboard. It's a really great instrument. I'm sure this one is too.

Me too.

Crazy idea, never catch on. What is this, a vinyl wrap?

Yes, it's called the SY-1 and was mentioned above. I have one and I think its certainly worth £50 more than the Electro Harmonix.

Five string shoot out - Sadowsky vs Spector

Yamaha BB435 might be worth a look, or a BB735 if you can find a used one. -
Epiphone Valve Junior would be an excellent choice if you can find a used one within range.

It's a Brian May Signature. Or a load of baubles. Or both.

Good places to trade a high end 6 string guitar for a bass
pete.young replied to wintoid's topic in General Discussion
@Gwilymis right. Shops make much bigger margins selling a punter a new guitar than your pre-owned model, unless perhaps it's uber-rare or vintage. The only place I can think of that might be worth a phone call is Peach Guitars in Colchester but they only have a handful of used instruments, in a shop which stocks thousands of guitars and basses. They'll take stuff on commission. If it's an acoustic avoid Hobgoblin for a guitar, they charge 30% commission. -
Father in law has now retired, alas. It was Steve who pointed us at Suffolk Sound Services. Though I reckon Paul Glazebrook could be the man for this particular job.

You can buy specialist nut-slotting files but the're pretty expensive. You might be OK with ordinary needle files. There's also a theory that you can use welding nozzle tip cleaners, there's a page about the pros and cons here https://hazeguitars.com/blog/cheap-alternative-to-guitar-nut-files

"You must log into Facebook to continue" said the dialog box. Thanks but no thanks. Has anyone had any dealings with Suffolk Sound Services in Framlingham? http://www.suffolksoundservices.co.uk/

It's called Sap for a reason!

SGC Nanyo Bass Collection basses.

Brilliant octaver. But utterly useless as a synth.

At $3500 up plus shipping it's a bargain! Either an early april fools page or Brian Eastwood has escaped again.
-
Not safe for work, even if you're working from home!
-
If it all works, offer them 50 quid to give the sales floor space back and maybe settle for 70 if you really need it. 100 quid isn't a great bargain, the original asking price of 140 is cloud cuckoo land.

Well I woke up this morning, and what did I see? A failed neck joint ! Off to see Peter at ME Strings later this week to see if there's any hope of a repair, but given the pegbox is already on borrowed time I think this could be the end of the line for my old faithful Musima.

Advice on international instrument shipping please

There used to be an excellent ferry from Newcastle to Bergen, which would have made this a great option. Unfortunately, I don't think it runs any more. -
In theory. But this is about as likely as winning the National Lottery, or being struck by lightning twice. I have active basses with batteries older than your BB2005 pre-amp.
