So after plenty of research, some advice, help and pointers from Beedster, Rick and Howard, I took the plunge. Simon made it all happen and found this bass for me in the States. It's a lovely instrument and in remarkable condition. It came with the original case and a 70's strap. The case is much more road worn than the bass and comes complete with a lovely vintage aroma. It came to me strung with flats, I've only ever played rounds but I must say that I love the smooth feel of them. They sound so right as well, although I've not yet played it at gig volume. I do intend to gig it although not in the Harlow pubs that we've recently been playing in. The neck and fret board are a joy and thankfully there are no dead spots. The frets are very good and not showing any signs of wear. I need to sort out an intermitent problem with the input socket and then take it out for a gig. I don't want it to be a housebound instrument for the duration of my ownership.
2. Lovely lookers GW. Excellent sales blurb and pics.
3. Good man.
4. I can usually recover quite rapidly but during Sweet child of Mine last weekend it all went horribly wrong, the singer missed a bit, which threw me and it was probably two or three bars before I caught on to how bad it sounded. This was followed by one of those hideous total brain blank moments which resulted in me forgetting that I could play a bass guitar. Other than that got through the gig with hardly a duff note.
5. my daughter used one at a recent open mic night and it sounded quite fine. Seen them for sale at Gig Gear in Harlow
6. Thanks John, that looks rather splendid.
7. A pleasure to see you back here again and well said. Always enjoy your posts though.
8. Looking good John but let us see the rest of it.
9. The Chequers, Old Harlow, Essex. Packed up following last nights gig, feeling really deflated and miserable . Not that we played badly, mostly it was pretty good, but on the whole a very uninterested audience.
10. I've been enjoying some of his playing lately, have had to learn Jail Break, Rosalie and Don't Believe a Word for the band that I've recently joined.
11. Bet that it will be lovely, will look forward to seeing some pics. And lovely that everytime you look at it you can think of your ma.
12. Nice one Dave, it looks very rock n roll
13. So glad to hear it Dave, that is excellent. Glad to hear your recovery is still improving.
14. That looks mighty fine John. Glad it was a happy ending.
15. Another good bit of work from Howard. Hassle free transaction and super fast.
16. Seems a bit strange that he told you a new pre amp wouold be a cheaper fix than a new pot. If you are confident with the soldering have a go. A new pot is a low cost item really. It will give you a chance to have a good tidy up and sort out the dodgy soldering already present.
17. I do the same GW and feel so much better for having now come out about it
18. What a spectacular transformation, looks totally lovely.
19. Was going to post something but all of a sudden there seems so little point.
20. That's the type of shopping trip that I could enjoy, as opposed to being dragged around countless clothes shops by the good wife. Thunderbird looks so rock n roll.
21. Sorry John, can't remember and I haven't got the bass to hand at the moment. I can borrow it from my daughter at some point to check but not for a day or so.
22. That's a real looker, good luck with the sale. Maybe you need to get a bit more wordy and sing it's praises some. Bit of detail on the spec etc.
23. I purchased one off of them for my recent p bass bitsa. The quality is good enough for the price and delivery was prompt. Mine was not going on a mex though so can't help you with that aspect. I had to drill a couple of fresh holes. The fit was all good around the pups, controls and neck plate. All in all I was happy with the purchase.
24.
I have a feeling they might be Fenders (especially if they are quite high tension). Checkout the Status Hotwires, they're a whole different kettle of fish and not too pricey.
Thanks for the info Rich
25. I've only very recently had my first experience with flats. My latest purchase, a 75 P bass is strung with them, don't know what make but they have a blue winding. I love the smoothness and feel under the fingers, can't comment on the sound as I haven't gigged it yet.
