1. 40 to 100 Roto's on all my basses - seem to suit me! Also partial to Warwick Reds too - cheap and pretty cheerful!

  5. Hi all For my Bluesy Rocky Funky trio, it's either I Shot The Sheriff, the Thrill is Gone, or Crossfire by SRV. 2nd set is usually Superstition. For my covers band, it's Vertigo (U2) or Valerie. 2nd set is usually Summer of 69 Great thread Graeme

    Strings
I find Warwick red label strings to be great value for money, I've been using them for a while now on all my basses.
+1 for Reds!
  9. Morning! I had a Kingbass Artist MK1, and was able to pretty much dial in most sounds, including a very middy punchy tone which cut through with no issues. Mine (as most had/have) had a very high output which could clip any amp at 30 paces! so i have it modded to cool it down a bit. Great bass in terms of construction/tone etc, but cannot comapre it to any other KB's as i've never tried others. Needless to say, i didn't get on with the size and shape of the bass so sold it on, but they have many fans and are truly great bits of kit.

  16.
What, turning up your bass is a solution to the guitarist's turning up their volumes? The correct solution is: 1) keep your volume where it is 2) shoot the offending item (guitarist, in this case) 3) replace.
+1 A perfect solution.....although shooting may be a little harsh :-)
  17.
I used to own an EJM96 like yours. I loved it. I found the pickups to be rather microphonic on mine, 'though. It sounded ok, but I couldn't use it in rehearsal/live because from time to time I'd get feedback and I'd have to find a position to play where the bass would behave. I sold it before I got around to change pickups, and I regret it. It was very nice. But I was planning to move overseas and it made sense to cut down bulk. I did two things to it, 'though: metal pickguard (black), I found it cheap and looked good... it helped with shielding. That was nice. I also installed a parallel/series switch. That was a great modification. In series it sounded massive... a great sound to have available.
Thanks for the advice dude, much appreciated - for the price i paid, new pickups will be worthwhile i reckon if they are a bit naff Cheers Graeme
  18. They are cracking basses, and will become future classics i'm sure! PM me if you're interested? Cheers Graeme
  19. My old Status KB had a ridiculous output, I had a local tech put a resistor in the circuit to cool it off. I'm a bit old school and like my (all passive) basses on full, then set my amp accordingly, then I make sure I stand near to my amp in case the guitarist or drummer get lairy! I've always thought passive basses sound better with their volumes on 10. (or 11)
