1. Hi all, I gig an OLP MM which has had nothing other than a good set up and decent strings and it always draws admiring comments from muso's. I also wonder how many audience members in the 'dog and duck' would notice the different in bass sounds? My experience would be that they wouldn't. I have had a few nice custom basses inc a jaydee and a status kingbass, but found it too hard to get a decent consistent sound. The OLP is just a plug and go. I've also just bought a Vintage EJM96 jazz clone, be interesting to hear what that sounds like. I guess the cheap vs expensive argument will long continue, but my money is on the cheapies for all round value.
2. Pics please dude! (interested from Kent!)
3.
I do but I only use it for my solo stuff, I'd never get rid of her! although I did say that about this Musicman once! I need the money atm! my bass students have all but disappeared and my band get paid peanuts for shows (enter violins) Looking to start or join a covers band on the wedding circuit. Earn some cash, either that or its back to Painting and Decorating! or a supermarket somewhere! Ah the life of a musician!
I hear you - seems to be one of the popular misconceptions that bands who play on big stages and with big artists have loads of dosh. I've done a few big gigs/radio/tv etc, and get paid more doing pub gigs now than i ever did in front of sh*t loads of poeple. More power to you Capt Bass, you're a great and stylish player. Rock on Graeme
4. Me likey muchly! Great versatile gigging duo you have there!
5. Never played either, but on paper (or screen) the MTD wins it for me
6. No love from me for the original clip, but woudl love to hear him in a band situation - maybe with Simon Philips and erm...i dunno......Govan Guthrie?

8. Hi all... Am after a budget 5, and love the look of the Affinity 5 string Jazz. Anyone own/played one? Haven't had a chance to play one myself yet. All comments welcome! Thanks Graeme
9. Definately not - haven;t ever been happy with expensive basses - cheapies for me all the way now. I do experience snobbery as i set my gear up sometimes from fellow muso's who see my OLP MM and Squier P - but my playing always wins over :-)
10. Great thread! My OLP MM - best 70 quid I ever spent!
11. Build quality on the couple i have played have been great, but never got on with the pickup positioning and (for me) was not a slapping friendly bass Great sounds though Cheers Graeme
12. Hi all, Anyone know which Hipshot d_tuner/Xtender will fit on a Classic Vibe 60's P Bass? Thanks Graeme

14. Personally I've not had good experiences with Peavey basses and have never played one that has felt inspiring or special....but ,maybe yours may be the chosen one!! If you like it and it feels right...get it!! Good luck Graeme
15. Hi Matt. My only advise would be try as many basses as you can before purchasing, as this may save disappointment down the line. I don,t have one myself, but Lakland basses are an excellent purchase. Good luck with your Bass Quest! Graeme
16. anyone got, or played one? Have taken a shine to one on Evilbay!

20.
The CVJ is a 60's Jazz clone, so the rear pickup is closer to the mid pickup. The necks are glossed & the bridge is a high mass affair (a blockier version of the new Fender bridge.) They're also made in a new Chinese factory where the quality control seems to be second to none, whereas the VMJ's are made in the Korean Cort factory. All in all they're really nice & at that price, if you want to put in some really serious pickups, it's one of those basses that's definitely worth it. These are going to be a future classic.
+1 - i have nothing but praise for the CV basses
21. ..that loves when a known player has a new, or changes their signature bass? In my L42 days, i loved when MK appeared with a new Jaydee/Status (imagine my excitement when he moved to Fender ..although the bass was a bit pants). Currently GAS'ing for a Yammie Attitude and a Pino Custom Shop. I just love players signature models...any one else like me? (please?) Graeme
