Their new album is quite splendid. Heard it for the first time this morning and currently listening to it again now. It's been a great journey seeing Damon Albarn's talent and skills develop over the years. I had wondered if he might have outgrown the Blur thing now so I wasn't expecting what I heard, which is a really solid band playing beautiful songs, only for the songs, and most definitely in the "now". ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I used to be "it has to look cool" first and foremost in my youth but not now. I currently play a Yammy BB604 which just looks like a bass to me, nothing to get too excited about visually, and not at all what I would have gone for even just a couple of years ago. However, it was inexpensive, is very well made, a joy and easy to play and sounds amazing. It's a great tool to create on so therefore it begs me to pick it up. Winning.

I reckon some short scale TI flats would sound amazing on one of these. They really look like strum-able shred machines. I bet the overall slimmer neck would be brilliant for playing chords on. 21 frets with access to all of them. Makes a change from the puzzling 19 you usually get on a SS... I love how this bass answers a question that no one was asking and aces it anyway! 😄

Thanks, yes I've seen the Burns VI (and every other VI available down the current rabbit hole 😄) but it's only the Hooky that has the right nut width and string spacing for me. It's a lot more expensive than most of the others available but I'm hoping that, by not buying and flipping my way through the others out there, it'll be cost effective in the long run. 🤞

Yep. After reading a lot on here about Bass VI's, the more they began to make sense to me. I don't play in bands anymore and don't intend to either (family situation makes it impossible time-wise) and I love to play yet find it hard to enjoy playing bass at home as for me, bass playing is a social sport and my buzz mainly came from making others, good players, sound great if that makes sense? On my own, not so much. After going down the Bass VI rabbit hole it was only the Hooky 6 that really added up to something I could get into, to expand my creative horizons somewhat. A bass vi made for bassists with a size and string spacing that I feel I could realistically get on with (I'm 6'1" with massive hands. Hands that don't get on with guitars at all 😄) So, I've paid the preorder deposit for a nice black one. The next batch of black Hookys won't be arriving until December which is fine as I'll have time to save up the rest. I've got a good looper pedal and effects already. Should be fun! Any other Hooky 6 players here? How are you getting on with yours and what kind of things are you getting out of it?

The Revelation Bass VI also looks interesting as a modern alternative.

The dot positions on the new fingerboard have been changed to accommodate the badass bridge. I'd be tempted to replace the fingerboard and put an original 70s bbot bridge back on myself (I prefer the woodier tone of a normal bridge). I'd keep it fretless but whatever floats your boat. Nice bass! Edit... looked again and the saddles look all over the shop regarding intonation so gawd knows why the dots don't line up 🤷

Or reverse the P pickup so the treble half "leapfrogs" in front of the bass half 😉

Yes go for it (I would anyway as I'm not in a band right now). If they're good people to be in a band with then that's most of the hassle of being in a band already taken out of the equation, plus, as it's not your genre pe se then you'll be learning something new to put in your pot.

Oh yes! Don't Look Back In Anger is another one than makes me feel, just, angry. Firstly for NG's singing but mostly for that god awful drum break that sounds like somebody throwing a cardboard box down the stairs.

Nothing but respect for Vince Clarke - the quiet genius with the Midas touch. His remix 12" of Wrote For Luck by the Happy Mondays is the best thing they ever released imho and still gets a regular airing in my house to this day. 👌 Agree regarding DM btw 👍 He helped create some great bands and artists along the way didn't he? Always stepping aside when his babies could do it on their own then onto the next project before they blew up too big. It takes a rare kind of self confidence to choose creativity over cash, always looking forward. Although I expect he did alright with Erasure eventually. I wish I knew more about him to honest. I wonder if he's still at it?
