Oh how I agree with all of this. I ran a covers band for 15 years and tried and tried to get other members of the band to realise that the audience comes to be ENTERTAINED. The music side is important but there are so many other elements to people going away feeling happy. Our guitarist had a perpetual scowl on his face even though that wasn't his personality and the lead singer(s) would not plan things to say in between songs ie: "Hello we are...... etc" As we used to play 3 or four songs in tight succession they only had to find a dozen or so things to say during the night.

I belive this problem was solved many, many years ago.... 🤣🤣 Not always the guitarist......but mainly is my findings of running bands / sounds over the years . Getting a good and balanced sound out front AND keeping everyone on stage happy? The solutions are out there and have been discussed to death on many forum pages. I try and keep it simple: 1 - Can we keep it basic and solve the "problem" with the equipment we have eg: use the volume controls / positions of all the amps / monitors / drummers? 2 - Have a specific rehearsal with all PA / backline in gigging positions etc to allow the sound person time to work on level setting / balance / monitor mixes etc. Easier if you have someone who is just doing sound but like me, when you're leading the band, running sound, lights, singing harmonies and playing bass it helps to have some of the issues covered prior to mid-song at a gig. 🙂 It also helps the band to use long leads and hear for themselves the difference between onstage and audience sounds. 3 - Having gone through the "reheasal process" get an agreement from EVERYONE that in future once the sound is set and you start playing the gig "NO FURTHER TWIDDLING IS ALLOWED" 🙂 🤣 .......but then what do I know, I'm only the bass player? 🤣🤣

It's not often you see totally unique developments in the shape / ergonomics of a bass. Mr Shuker certainly does some extraordinary work. I think I would confuse myself silly trying to tune up mid gig....."just tweak the E a little....darn that's the D.....now the D which is really the E....or is it? 😕🤔🤣🤣" That is one wonderfully different instrument you have there, I hope you have fun playing it.

It does seem that there are getting to be more hurdles to jump now to be able to gig. I'm not sure it's just the venue being awkward to push bands out in favour of discos. There's legislation in place that requires the venue to put in place safety measures and be as safe as possible. Maybe it's a function of their operating insurance that it's a requirement for performers to have PLI & PAT in place(?) For the larger chains it may be a way of distancing themselves from potential legal costs eg: someone gets injured by the performers equipment (ooh eer missus! 🤣) the band are in the initial firing line for any claims. Any performer, disco, band, solo singer etc will have to provide the same documents. It's just that it's usually cheaper to hire a disco / solo singer than a full band. I took out PLI for my band to help protect US. Even a minor claim from a punter (or the venue) can cost a lot in solicitors fees which tend to be higher than your average pub bands earnings 🙂 I used to use AMPband (Link) for my 5 piece band covering us for all our gigs. It was usually hotels or clubs that asked for PLI & PAT etc. but I had it in place for any venue. I never needed to use it but did notice that there were more potential incidents to use it in a bar gig where the drunk punters grab onto the PA stands for support or try joining you "on-stage" 😮😡 Also the cost of one off event cover was nearly the same as a full year. I'm not affiliated with them in any way but based on my experience and others who reccomended them to me its probably worth giving them a call. An unfortunate fallout from the need for PLI and PAT etc is that in general it cuts into whatever you are paid as many pubs etc are still paying the same (or less) than 20 years ago. But that could be a WHOLE other thread 🙂

Amended 😉 Wholeheartedly agree in getting moulded plugs (ACS for me 🙂) I have a pair of 10dB and a pair of 17dB. As @Happy Jack says once they're in, the effect is that you hear exactly what everyone else hears, but with the volume turned down (but you can still hold a conversation). Like all new things they take a little getting used to, especially if you sing but I would NOT be without them either for playing or watching gigs etc. The cost? Lets be realistic, it's the equivalent of 1 coffee per week, for a year, from Starchucks. Most people don't seem to even consider that trickle of money when they're budgeting, only if it's spent in one lump. Dodgy coffee for a year or hearing for life? I know which I prefer 🙂

For anyone who didn't get, you missed out as this was a great gig. The whole band were tight, sounded and played really well. It was obvious that each member had put a lot of work into learning their parts, getting the sounds accurate for each track and pulling it together as a band. Chris (@doc40hz) had a brace of very nice JD's and Trace Elliot amp to play with 🙂 Well worth seeing them if you have the chance. The only negative for me was that the cost of parking was more than the ticket for the show! That can't be right! Anyway here's some videos that my mate took. Ah yes....bass guitar....the only musical instrument that attracts derision should you try and improve! lol 🤣 There's a place for both simple lines and for more complex ones. Back to the topic....I like the bass tone, his playing and the fact that you can hear it in the mix. For me it adds to the track.

It was yesterday as I tried changing the Themes to see what they did. Can't see them today. I'm on Win10 / Firefox as well.

I was having the same issue and found a solution. Go to your Account Settings, select Content View, select the Take Me To Comments I Havent Read box and save. Worked for me 🙂

Believe it or not but it's not a flaw! Roger's pre-amps are set up as standard for the balance to be neck = anti-clockwise and bridge = clockwise. On the older Sadowsky pre's that I have had you can easily re-wire to the conventional mode at the terminal blocks. Alternatively whip out the old soldering iron and flip the wires on the balance pot. Here's a link to "That Other site :-) " 😁

Lessons.....I had a musical background before picking up bass so I was self taught for the first 10 years. Lessons would have helped speed up the learning curve earlier on.
