Hi guys and gals, I mentioned a while back that i was in the studio with my band getting a new demo down, both new originals and some of our classic covers...all funkified with a good portion of Groove Cartel... www.groovecartel.co.uk I'm playing on all of them barr 'Getaway' which happens to be an awesome tracks. I used both my F Bass Studio 5 and Marleaux Constat Fretless 5 edition...my Ampeg SVT II and Dr Bass cabs. We D.I'd straight out of the Ampeg, and mic'd up the RX1260 cab and blended the signals for some ubber thick funk!!! Oh...and i did some singing/chanting...you can't hear it too well, but i'm the lowest voice, all rather tasty stuff though!!! DVD footage to follow soon... Jam

Hi Mike, Great meeting you at the Garrison gig mate. Nice stuff. The Sei sounds really sweet mate, really nice indeed...bet your growing ever more in love with it. Noticed some familiar phrasing around 3 mins, nice to see you incorporating what you've got down into your own playing, but in an un-mistakably you context! Great to see your progress mate!!!! Out of interest, how do you find the ramp, is yours curved or flat? I'm thinking of getting one, although the pickups covers on my F bass are fairly wide and match the finger board radius so they're really helping my technique...getting the whole Garrison-esque 4 finger thing down! Nice groovin' though... J

Has anyone read "The Music Lessons" by Victor Wooten?
bassjamm replied to 7string's topic in General Discussion
Just read the chapter on his site...interesting stuff! It seems to tie in with his Bass player TV master class vids! Has anyone got a copy of this that they want to move on? Pm if so please! -
A good friend of mine has had 3 or 4 of them. At first he thought they were great, but the niggles you mentioned in your original post about the B string were his thoughts too...very lacking! His last was a 34" scale, but even so, with the experience they have, they couldn't produce a decent low B on his bass. The electronics to my ears are very un-exciting, and talking them into using anything but what they want to is very very hard! That having been said, i've never picked up another bass that felt as nice. They feel great and really beg to be played. But i would want to specify what electronics were used, and i don't think i'd get a very favourable response. Also...for the price they sell at there's a lot out there to compete with them! Just my thoughts and experience, and that of an ex-overwater user.

Hi Kim, Sei's are well made basses, and highly respected both here in the UK and abroad. There's a load of people on Talkbass who own them, might be worth doing a search over there too. As far as UK luthiers go, they're probably one of the most respected and well established. Martin is always great to deal with too. They're nice playing and sounding instruments to me. I guess the fact that there's a good number of guys on here who play them or have had one built recently, that kind of speaks volumes. They're also good at holding there value unlike some other custom basses over here. Whether or not it's a good deal, i don't know as i know very little about the Vigiers. J
Yeah bassjam ive been thinking about Lull basses but im not sure about the price???? Do they do an affordable range like Sadowsky? Also been drooling over Pensa basses!!
Their more affordable than the Sadowsky's mate...and that's not comprimising on quality, that's a custom built one from the main man himself. PM me if you want more details mate...don't let the 2nd hand one at the Gallery fool you, that's ridiculously over-priced, by £600 i'd say!

I wouldn't dis-regard Mike Lull basses either mate, i've played them next to the Sadowsky's and the Lull's did it for me more than the Sadowsky's!!! Both are cracking though!!!
