1.
I wonder sometimes, I know people have the best of intentions, bit it does appear that they don't read all of the thread. Honestly, changing it to fretted won't have any detremental effects on the bass, Martin would do it so you wouldn't know it had ever been fretless, he'd probably have to change the nut I suppose. And it would be a simple enough job if you ever wanted to defret it, why shouldn't it be ?. As I said earlier, my 1st 6 string had been a fretless originally, but you wouldn't have known, obvioulsy a different story if I'd done it myself.
Thanks Kevin...that makes perfect sense!!! I'll give it some consideration...maybe i'll just sell it, hmmmmmm!!!
2. What's the scale length please?
3. I'm not going to do this myself, nor have i suggested that. This would be done by the guys at the Gallery whom i have great faith in. I also know that they'll do a great job of the set up and what not. The purpose of this quest would be to have a gigging instrument, not to have a cheap knock about bass for some fun. Thanks for the suggestions.
4. I've got a Boss RC-20XL (i think that's what it's called) and it is by far the best piece of equipment i have ever bought. It's helped me to progress far more than anything else single handedly. The massively cool thing about the Boss is that you have 11 memory banks, so you can loop something and save it...11 times. So you can be working on loads of different ideas/tunes for practice, or have pre-looped loops for live sets etc. It's also got a stupidly long record time, 8mins or something like that. And yes, you can layer up loads. One down side which i find annoying is that say you record a 4 bar loop, but then you want to add a layer that round the orginal 4 bar loop twice, so you create an 8 bar layer on top...you can't do this. You can only layer for as long as the original loop lasts, so if it's 4 bars, you can add another 4 bar layer on top, and of course a 2 bar layer (although this will play 2 of every 4 bars, not every 2 bars). I find this annoying if i've sampled/nabbed a drum loop that's only 2 bars long but i want to layer a 4 bar bass line over it...but i just jam about instead. Loopers are great though. I've learnt loads more about using chords and just general writting stuff as a result of using one for a while!
5. Yeah, i thought the process of fretting it would be simple enough. I originally thought about getting a new neck made, but i'd be looking at a lot of money to get that done, and i'm no tech so swapping the necks would not be done!!! Plus it won't add any value to it...simply having the neck fretted would hardly detract from it's value. Hmmmm...it's all a bit confusing!
6. Just sold Joe my (now his) AG500... Great to deal with, nice bass and rig too...and cat!!!
7. Just sold this kind chap some gear...most pleasant to deal with. We had to work out some payment plans that involved a lot of trust both ways, and everything went tickedy boo...cracking stuff!!! Thanks again mate!
8. It's my Marleaux Constat 5 string...so we're talking about a serious piece of kit here. And of course i wouldn't do it myself, it'd be down to the Gallery for this...even with their experience i'm nervous about the thought of it, but it is the cheapest solution for my quandry! It's lined...
9. raised from the dead once again... Any offers out there...would be interested in a trade of high end 5 string beauties!
10. Hi people, Thinking of getting my fretless bass fretted in an effort to cure my bass related issues...leaving me without a fretless, but i'm not gigging mine much at the moment, and i can pick up a cheapish one. Has anyone else had a fretless bass fretted, if so what were your results? Thanks Jamie
11. Back up t' top!
12. I've watched the youtube vid's, not bought a CD yet though... He's an awesome player though. Heard about him through Janek Gwizdala...listening to the album with JoJo on now as it happens I assume CD's are available through his website perhaps? Just did an iTunes search and it's come back with some crazy jazz/funk thing...quite cool, downloading that! And searching for 'Nerve' got me some crazy Hip-hop thing, and some heavy rock stuff!!! Hmmm!!!
13. Hi mate, That would be great, any long drum tracks or sequences would be awesome please!!! Anything in time signatures other than 4/4 would also be really cool mate!!! Anything you could offer would be really appreciated...by me at least! Thanks Jaime
14.
These are truly fantastic amps, I have th SC version and it's never let me down in any situation yet; from large halls to intimate jazz. It has really thunderous lows, the deep switch on the babies takes your bass one lower!! This is a good price for it too! Join the club, you wont regret it!! In fact, I think you should hold onto it and give it a chance Jamie! Craig
Thanks Craig... It's not that i don't like the amp at all, i love it...but i've decided that at the moment i need the money more than the amp. Still interested in yours though if you want to do a deal on my Ampeg mate!
15.
Jam, TIMRMI is very inefficient as you're using your middle and index fingers twice as much as the outer two. A key advantage of TIMR or TRMI, is that the work is split evenly between each finger. This isn't the case with TIMRMI. Mark
I understand that mate, i was just saying it comes quite naturally to me. But it's not as efficient as you say.
16.
I saw that and wondered how it would compare to the Thunderfunk! Can you give any insight?
It's far punchier than the Thunderfunk and to me ears a lot more pleasant sounding. I find it easier to use than a TF, and it looks cooler It's hard to say though as it's been a while since i sold my Thunderfunk. But i know if i had to choose between the two i'd take the AG500 no questions!!!
Aaaaargh!!! Just been seriously looking at Aguilar and this model head in particular - thats a good price too - would you be happy to post it? I take it its just the standalone rack head not in the sleeve thing they do? (..hmmmm goes off to figure out if i can scrape up the readies for this........) peace c
Yeah i can post it at the buyers expense. Although i'd rather sort out some kind of meet up with fuel costs covered or some arrangement. I'm a bit funny about shipping stuff if i can avoid it. And yes, it's just the amp and the foot switch, no sleeve nor any rack. J
17. Hi guys, Picked up an AG500 last week and i'm not 100% sure it's for me yet, so i thought i'd see if there's any interest... It's the dual channel version and comes with the foot switch. There's some very light scuffs on top, nothing out of the norm, nor too deep or of any concern. I haven't got any pics yet, but as i say, it's feeler. SOLD Thanks Jamie
18.
Hahahaha! You have a Dr.Ass bass cab!!! ;-) c ps-still dangerously tempted!! if only i wasn't buying gareths sadowsky...!
Lol...well spotted mate Well if you fancy it mate let me know...i'm sure we could sort something out! I almost went for that bass too...but got a Lull endorsement in the works so should be ordering that next week, waiting to hear back from another luthier first!!!
19.
Do you have any pictures i can gawp over please? I start summer work soon.... Mmmm!
Your wish is my command...see original post
20. I've found TIMRMI has been quite easy to throw in as well...although, it messes with my head too much!!!
21. Hello yee beautiful people... Spotted this and thought i'd share: Ken Smith Burner 5 string I'm tempted to have a pop at it myself, having owned an Smith previously...but i'm going to hold out for my custom!!! Enjoy... J

23. Nice one mate...i'm making a bit more of an effort with my reading. I've just joined 'The Bass Vault' and there's a facility on there to test your reading, but also you fingerboard knowledge of the notes (also has ear training...wicked stuff). Again, not really any rhythms, but at the moment i'm happy about that. One things for sure, my ability to read notes isn't as bad as i thought it was, so i now know i need to work on my rhythm reading!
24. Nice stuff mate...i'm trying to nail this right now! Getting there with it, although i tend to use it on the G string more as there's less in the way, and trying to get it clean on the others is harder...all in good time!!! Great stuff though mate. Out of interest, what are you using for your drum loops...garage band, or something fed into your looper? Thanks J
25.
Thanks Jamie - re the ramp mine is flat but then so are my pickup covers - the one on my fretless is radiussed (spelling?) - but I don't have a problem with it either way... they both work! Thanks for checking this out Cheers Mike
That's cool man. I know some people have flat ones, others have radiussed ones...but i guess the general i dea is to just provide you with a raised level to bounce your fingers off... Anyway, wicked tone man!
