1. Hi mate, What's the scale length and string spacing...and do you have any pics? Thanks Jamie
2.
Any interest in my Sunn 1200s as trade bait?
Thanks mate, but it's not really what i'm after...J
3. Back up to the top
4. Hi Philip, Welcome to Basschat mate... Hmm...have you tried e-mailing the Bass Gallery and making them aware of the situation to see if they can help out? Failing that, keep an eye on the UK ebay and contact any sellers etc. Also, check out the for sale forum on here, there have been a few Sei Jazz basses about, but not too many of what you're after, do a search though and see what's about mate. Other than that, Gumtree might have something on, or Loot. They're second hand listing websites here in the UK, although they rarely yeild great results...worth checking out though. It might also be worth your while putting a wanted post up in the wanted forum on here explaining stuff as that will attract anyone who has a Sei to offer up. Hope you find something. Jamie
5.
FWIW, I remember he and Steve Lawson both seemed to rub some people up the wrong way on this forum and Bassworld.
Yeah, he seems to be a bit of a 'marmite' kind of guy within this scene and what not. I personally try to look through it all and listen to the music, but it's hard to put aside some of the stuff people say about him, as well as some of the stuff he puts forward. No doubt about it though, as far as talent is concerned, he's by far one of the most gifted players out there, his composition and knowledge of it is immense...seriously, you have to speak with him or read some of his stuff and just appreciate how switched on he is when it comes to that!!! I think he'll definately flourish as he gets older though, and he's certainly great inspiration for us all, i certainly find him inspirational. Going back to that interview though...i think he comes across as being far more enthusiastic and open minded about everything in it, and back then...but now, after having had lessons with him and kept up to date with him online stuff, he seems to have hardened up a bit and become more focused. I guess that's part of being in the industry for a number of years and becoming more savvi to it all, as well as having learnt what to ignore. Bit of a wrothless rant i know...but he's great to listen to and to learn from!!!
6. bump...any trade offers?
7.
Hi J Jamey Aebersold is a great American jazz educator - he's recorded over 100 CDs of superb play-along jazz CDs covering all types of standards from beginner level to advanced and everything in between - some of them have Ron Carter and pianist Kenny Barron them - so you get to jam along with world class jazz musicians as your backing band. I've got quite a few of them - the one in this video is from the Charlie Parker Volume No 6 - they are really good and really help you with your soloing: You can buy them here http://www.jazzwise.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=547_16 Hope that helps - I recommend them Mike
Hi Mike, Thanks for that. Yeah, i've heard of his books before, but i don't think i knew about the backing tracks! Sounds like great stuff!!!
8.
Thanks Tom - the tempo is actually a bit weird in that it's not too fast but not too slow either - I find the head really hard to play at this tempo, hence a screw it up a few times! Anyway - yes it's good Jamey Aebersold on the backing - they really the biz those play alongs... Cheers M
Backing tracks...hmm what what! Pardon the rooky question, but how can i get hold of some of these? Thanks Jamie
9. That's great stuff thank Mike, really appreciate it! I know exactly what you're saying about the fretless vid, when i cut back to groove, i didn't realised groove all that well, it was just whatever came out...as though i stumbled into it and was looking around wondering what just happened 'oh, i'm grooving now'. So thanks for that, that's a great help! Also, i totally get what you're saying about starting strong and ending strong, something i haven't really thought about but it makes perfect sense! I'll definately try and get some more stuff done, and bare in mind what you're saying, so i'll try and incorporate this for sure! Really appreciate the input guys...really is awesome to hear back as i can learn a lot from it, and i'm wanting to learn from these vids, not showcase myself! Thanks J
10. Cracking stuff mate...i need to work on my chops more!!!
11. Kind sir Ped...your wish is my command!!! It's well too long and there's waaaaayyyyyyyy too many duff notes in there that i didn't mean to do...lol, that's what i keep telling myself anyway, that the wrong notes are usual supposed to be there
12. A fretless one will be next on order mate, perhaps anyway! Been working on my fretless playing this week, it's getting there...still not that great at it but it's getting there! Yeah, the F Bass is sounding ok...still not sure it's 'me' though! As for the Lull. I've got it all spec'd up...just making sure i'm happy to go ahead with it, at the moment i'm in talks with another one of my favourite luthiers. I'm just unsure about what will help me to develop my 'voice' on the bass. I don't know
13.
Cool vid Jamie, great jamming... great bassjamming! I especially like the groovy lower down bits like at 1.20(from the end). Hopefully now you have worked out how to do them you wil record some more vids to share? Cheers ped
Lol...you mean you like the bit when i'm playing 'bass' not displaying acts that remind you of a frustrated guitarist, lol!!! Thanks though mate! I intend to yeah. I'll try and hook up the digital camera, although whenever i've used that before the sound doesn't seem to work on the laptop very well...nice crystal clear picture though I could over-dub some 'dooo be doo ba deee' over it
14. Hey people, Fretless vid about 4/5 posts down Well, i thought i'd finally do a vid of me playing around with some ideas. Got my looper going with a chord progression i've been working on for a while, and i basically just mucked about on top of it. It's quite a hard progression as it's not really got a key centre, or rather, i've not found it yet, which makes it more fun because i just think about the notes, lol!!! Here it is, apologies for the quality, used my phone but the sound is there. I think it'll pop up in a new window as i've used photobucket to upload it to the net: Please feel free to dish out all your views, good and bad!!! Thanks Jamie
15. To contradict the above... I've run my SVT II at 8 ohms without any problems or loss of tone. It still works and sounds great! No damage has been caused, nor anything dodgy!
16. And just like that...it's whacked back up to the top... *pppppeeeeeoooooowwww* (it's been a long day )
17.
Leave it Rickaaaaae!
I can nee do it cap'en...
18.
I don't even need an amp and I'm tempted by that price !!! Bump to the top on me!
Go on go on go on go on go on... Haggle away kind sir!
19. Wal GAS is just the worst kind...soooo expensive, and this is a beaut!!!
20. Reduced to £865
21.
It's the one bass that I really, really miss. The neck was fantastic and so solid, I think I read somewhere that the neck was made from the same wood used to make ships masts. Soundwise it was very versatile, a bit similar to the tone circuits used in Alembics. I really fancy getting a 6 now.
Lol...you're as bad as me man!!! You got a sweet one coming your way mate, you don't need a Wal... I'm really looking forward to playing one now... just need to sort out the cash :s
22.
Yeah, my 5 was a mach 3, that was my favourite shape.
Form the one's i've seen the Mach III is my favourite shape too. Although i like the Mach II, the Mach 1 doesn't float my boat at all. How did you find them mate in terms of feel and tone?
23. Kevin - The Mach III had a 6 string option from what i've come to know Walman - Thanks for that info mate...the flyer would be cool, but don't worry yourself about it! They certainly sound like they could be of great interest! Just need to sell some gear in order to free up the cash for whatever i see in the future!!!!!
