1. Bump Offers accepted, need to move this due to pending endorsement deals for which i need some mahoney to make beautiful bass purchases!
2. Haven't read all of the thread but thought i'd chip in... Yeah, real shame they aren't playing in the UK, although i'm tempted to take a trip abroad for a bit of bass action, not sure which yet...Amsterdamn, Warsaw, Paris...so many choices, great stuff! As regards the same old stuff or what have you. I prefer to think of it in a different sense. These guys are some of the greatest musicians around, note...musicians, not bassists, that they are indeed, but in the bigger picture, they're phenominal musicians. The fact that the play bass seems to pigeon hole them to some degree...but they're incredible musicians colaborating to offer a different take on things. It's only now that i'm starting to realise just how musical these guys all are. Yes, they may be doing the same things, but it works well in this context. I have huge respect for each player, whilst i've not intensely listened to them all in detail. Some may view this venture as a show case of trips...i will view it as a source of inspiration and an opportunity to learn something new, to learn how the bass can interact within other contexts, to see how the top guys work around each other and create something fresh. It won't all be monsterous technique, there will be some, but i would expect a large amount of musical flare to be on display!!! Rich...Palmystery is a cracker isn't it, not the best i've heard of a bass album, but Vic really does show his true talent as a player doesn't he!
3. Interesting stuff indeed kind sir...ash/maple/ash should give you some great results, as well as provide you with a broad range of tones mate!!! Vunderballlll!!!
4. AAAhhhh...Mr. Machines, i owe you a hug!!! Thanks man!!!
5. Hi guys, Had some weird problems since about 4pm yesterday. I can't see threads normally, threads aren't appearing as the normally do, instead, i'm getting a list of replies below the original post and i have to click on the reply i want to read to open it. This is rather annoying! I haven't changed any settings in my control panel, does anyone else know anything about this, or how to fix it? Here's the pic: Thanks Jamie
6.
getting repeated messaged asking me to call someone about an item i have sold through the forum. Totally un-related to the person i actually sold the item too and the number in not one i would recognize. is anyone else getting these messages. i received two tonight. i've blocked the guy.
Hi mate. I got the same thing from the same guy. He's new to the site and doesn't know how to use the pm function yet. I think he must have chosen 'e-mail user' or something. Nothing to fear...he just wants any Ampeg gear that he can get his hands on. J
7. Lol...get him to send some pics of that... Detective Kiwi, the mission, to go under cover and spy out the ancient woods of the Island!!! Hang on, lets get BBC involved...thated go down well on the box
8. That's a shame mate...although to be honest with you, if he wasn't cool with or 100% comfortable with the build, you'd be best off just leaving it. The bass in those pics is pretty foul though! lol!
9. Do you have the original Bravewood neck, if so could that be sold with the bass? And are you interested in valvey Ampeg goodness?
10.
I'll just put your Ampeg against the door to prevent you from leaving Mark
Lol...i'll be well away before you manage to lift up that bad boy mate, lol! Mind you...i'd not want to leave the Ampeg behind, you got me there bud!
11.
I love the fretted vid. I like the way you play about with the phrases, building them and playing variations - really nice stuff. Your phrasing in general is very vocal, very sax player like and fluid which is great. I like the fretless vid too, and it shows loads of potential, but I think I can hear you don't feel as comfortable yet. Sure you will soon though Overall, very impressive throughout! Cheers Alun
Thanks Alun, Really appreciate that mate, seriously, some great feedback. Yeah, i'm not as comfortable on fretless yet, it doesn't feel like 'home' yet. Only really been playing it for just over one year! Seriously, thanks mate, totally appreciate your kind words...any kind words of wisdom? J
12.
Cheers buddy! I'm looking forward to doing the same You're first on the list to try it. Mark
SSsccccchhhhhhwwwweeeeeeaaaaaatttt!!!! You best have some back up there mate, i can't promise i'll be able to control myself and avoid boshing you on the head to make a speedy get away with a beasty beauty!!!
13. Mark...this is sounding pretty special my friend, nicely done!!! I've been enjoying your cpmmentry on it in our conversations mate...can't wait to see and play it mate!!!
14. Ahhh...i've not got any of Laurence's albums, i should get them though. Janek used to spend a lot of time with Laurence though didn't he, and Janek also writes great horn parts, i guess it's clear to see where Janek gets a lot of his influence from then!
15. I don't really know. I personally love it just as much now as i did when i first heard it, if not more really. I find the composition to be something that i really connect with, and i'm always learning something new or having to work harder to work out something from the album. I can't say it's become 'old' to me yet. Usually i listen to something a lot for a while and then i get bored of it and it stays like that for a long time, but 'Mystery to me' is still in my top 5 most played. I've spoken with some other bassists who have this album, and we all agree that 'Mystery to me' is probably one of the best composed albums from a bassist that we've heard. That all having been said, I do see what you're saying though Mark. I think the new one will improve upon the old one for the points you've brought out...as yes, i guess the last one can sound all to similar at times!
16. Interesting stuff Mark. I guess it's just down to preference. I wasn't really listening to Gwilym Simcock much when i saw him with Janek at the 606, but he certainly complimented the music and the group. Gary Husband was insane on the drums I think you'll like the new album though mate...som great stuff on there!
17. That's cool man...by the way, it's Jamie here from Groove Cartel in case you hadn't already realised I definately need to sort myself out with some recording stuff though!
18.
I've been in touch with Larry for the last month or so, initially it was just to say that I was very pleased with my HA4000, HA3500 and VX810, I also mentioned that I had great results from their strings. Hartke had been my choice since being a little disappointed in a few other makes I'd had the chance to try out on gigs, I just kept in touch with him, I presented him with some of my own bass recordings and some of the bands recordings and just told him about myself as a player, just like you mentioned bassjamm, it went from there really. Don't get me wrong it's not on the level of Jack Bruce or Stu Hamm, It's all good though, all positive and hopefully I can develop my relationship with Hartke. Not fussed on the cabs bassjamm?
I used to use the Transported cabs, but out grew them. I now need a small, but portable solution...so preferably a single 4 ohm cab. I want to check out some more of the Hartke stuff again, and i'm tempted to call him up...but i want to see what i'm happiest with really!
19.
Yeah, I always plan on waiting until my band gets a bigger, so I actually have a grain of truth to expand upon and exaggerate! I can big myself up all I want, but at the end of the day, it isn't hard to do some research into me!
Nor me mate...but i've got enough there for the people i've got positive replies from to say yes. Just don't be afraid to ask. My guitarist just got a strings deal. All he does musically is play in my band, he's never done anything bigger that what we're doing, and we aren't big, he's in full time employent. He just asked and got a favourable reply. If it helps, i just used my myspace and bands myspace as points of reference, both links are in my sig, so you can see what i used to back myself up! As has been mentioned before though...endorsement doesn't mean 'free'. I think it's just the big boys, or the guys who are in the big league, doing tours with big bands and stuff that get gear thrown at them and time spent with them. It makes sense though as they're putting the brands out there. I'm only able to market to limited audience, but i guess the more you can put the brand out there, the more they reward you!!! Hope you manage to get one though mate, or too get your profile together in order to get one...it's nice to get something back from it all
20. I bought the album through the 55 bar, it got here fine, just took a while...well worth the wait though guys. It's an awesome album, some great composition on it, and some trully beautiful stuff. Janek is an awesome composer!!! Mark - i think he did just use two condesers yeah, the volumes are a bit low, and you hear the snare when the bass is pushing, but it's trully awesome to hear how these guys can convey Janek's ideas. Tim Miller sounds great on the album too!!!
21. Hello you beautiful man!!! Souding sccchhhhhhwwweeeaaaaatttt...we need to jam! Nice one on the Lakky deal mate...how'd that come about? By the way, let me know what you're using for recording please man, i need to get some stuff sorted, my looper is doing my proud, but need some proper recording stuff!!! Hoooorrrraaayyy for bass! Jam
22.
I still don't really know at what stage you 'qualify' for an endorsement... I'd love a string endorsement from Overwater or something, but I know I'm not high profile enough to warrant it. Am I? Amp endorsements aren't as high on my list anyway.
I personally think it's more about how good at selling yourself at the average Joe kinda level. I'm not high profile, no one knows me, i'm not making a massive name for myself. I've managed to get in with some decent muso's, but i've maintained a fairly decent profile and i therefor have something to market. I think it's easier to go for overseas companies, and companies with a broad mind set...Overwater seem pretty narrow-minded to me about stuff, this stuff included. But at the end of the day, have you asked for one with them? Don't be afraid to ask...but don't just say 'erm, i don't suppose you'd, erm, endorse me?' ... sell yourself, who you are, what you're doing, what you've done. Make yourself sound successful, you don't have to be deceitful or anything, just work on your strengths!
23.
Cheers Ped, Yeah, the cell phone number is everywhere!! Well, obviously I'm not in the position to be given huge amounts of new gear for free........(apart from strings) but as far as amplification goes.....it's incredibly discounted according to Larry. I'm told there are various levels of endorsement at Hartke....I must be a newbie, Ha! onwards and upwards then! He's a very nice chap and whatever you need, depending on your level of exposure as a player they will sort a deal! ...So, tidy darts!
Hey man...did you get it by calling Larry then? I've considered doing that, although, i'm not sure i want a Hartke one...i'm using my HA2000 pretty much exclusively at the moment though, my first amp and it's seen off a Thunderfunk, an Ampeg SVT (though that's becuase it's lighter, lol)...the cabs though...hmmm!!! I've recently got deals with Mike Lull and Rotosound, the endorsements are out there...it's grand, just have to look i guess. J
