Just tried my 5-er through it. This thing has much more range in both directions than the TC Classic. I got a nice tone with gain switch in, gain and volume at about noon, bass backed off slightly, mids boosted at 600Hz, treble flat. I say 'tone', I should say 'range of tones' - as I said in my first post, you get a very clear reflection of any changes in control settings on the bass itself. These settings gave a good string balance, which is always nice.
Sounds to me as though sir is coming to appreciate his new amp yes?
I don't like green guitars! Trans maple leaf red sounds interesting, any examples? Sounds very autumnal. Right, the mdf mock-ups looked, well, like mdf mock-ups. Here's a picture of what that solution looks like in some first grade sycamore. Am I allowed to post such sexy pictures on here? Whatever the green, it's going to have to be subtle.
Those are seriously gorgeous pics matey! Utility, I think not!! Very beautiful and to be looked after...yes! I think I had the red of the middle leaves on this picture in mind but in a translucent finish?
Tell me more......what does this procedure involve, and what kind of money are we looking at?
it probably involves a luthier type person shaving the back of the neck in order to change it's shape? unless you fancy attacking it with a rasp and sander before refinishing it? I reckon someone on here would be able to advise in a much more useful way than I who've never seen it done or done it I just know it's possible... Costs, not a clue matey, certainly way cheaper if you try it yourself but I guess there's the flip side of 'if it goes wrong how much to put it right!'

a neck reprofile could be done too given you like the sound and look of it?

Welcome back matey! I've nejoyed listening to your previous stuff and am looking forward to the new work, Aurora is v cool!
I have the guitar player tech kit, plus a couple of other things. Great quality tools.
superb! Those long screwdrivers for vintage truss rods look like a great idea too!
At a guess: http://www.cruztools...ts/mitools.html
oo, nice! £48 on amazon compared to the price of a set-up from any shop doesn't seem so bad
Good thread. I have recently invested in a small tool kit, Cruz Tools. I have know about action, intonation and truss rod stuff for ever. However, I have never really investigated doing it properly to spec and measurement. I can now set neck relief exactly, and do bridge and pickup height to measurements, and intonation. I don't know how to cut a nut, or how to do a fret dress though.
Sounds like a potential good investment! link please?
-
All sounds positive so far! Excellent stuff!! Will get working on the spec for it soon! The real debate is how many strings? 4 or 5? Hmmmm
Woohoo! I'd be more than happy to try a 4 string with a drop-tuner as a compromise?
-
Ahh dude my old bass had reverse tuners so when going into a dropped d number I got completely lost as I'd naturally went to turn the tuning peg the way I was used to and couldn't figure out where the string was tuned -stumbled through on the d string once I got my bearings back. I felt like a complete muppet "Look at yer man can't even tune his bass" Otherwise not a bad gig!
oh no matey! I hate having to go from standard tuners to reverse tuners as I always always ALWAYS go the wrong way It's always horrible especially in public! Sounds like you manfully ploughed on through the moment and emerged triumphant after a good gig!?
-
It's got 3 pick ups Andy and moving the selector switch made no change to the volume....weird
Very! Bug*er!! No obvious/helpful crackles/pops on any controls? Tested with a variety of leads?
-
Bugger me, I think it's my bass! Just tried it through my Tascam BT and it's really quiet active and passive. Jack socket maybe?
Oo bad news! Some electrical issue at work there! Pickup fault? Could be anything?
-
Practice! Seriously though, there's a book from Mel Bay called '50 Two-hand Tapping Workouts for Electric Bass'. I used to use it all the time and it's a brilliant little book, especially for things like hand independence. I remember there being an exercise early on in the book that has you tapping up a major scale in your right hand and the relative minor in your left. Sounds great, but is difficult to do.
This one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0786658819/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1381172885&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165

I'd be happy to try it whether it coincides with a gig or not...

have a great time matey! Hopefully your borrowed gear will do the job for you!!
Believe it or not, I have not yet decided whether to keep this*, and will probably come to a decision after Saturday! If it's a 'no', watch the Marketplace... *My plan is to buy and try a few different used heads and just keep the one(s) I like the best.
try before/during you buy is the way forward matey! Buying to use at a gig-test is emminently sensible methinks

I'm more tempted than a tempted thing to try and get hold of a streamliner while they're as cheap as they currently are!
