£8481.63 for a bass that makes no sound. They forgot to put any controls on it. Yeehaaa!
Am I allowed to comment on the poor singing technique of the young girl in the white top (Ellie Goulding)
I'm told she's quite popular with young people. LG's closing set on the Friday show was great. Very infectious. He got da funk.

NBD... but someone messed up fretting/pup/bridge installation!

I don't know. Fender's QC just ain't up to much these days. -
Also, Firth Of Fifth was a leftover from Foxtrot. Imagine having a song that good as a leftover.
Well if you have a 'song' like Supper's Ready taking up the whole of one side and Watcher... on the other there was never going to be enough room for Firth of Fifth as well.
When I was a child I remember Sixth Form types walking down the road where we lived in Afgan coats , flared trousers and embroidered denim jackets with Geneseis albums tucked under their arms , probably on their way round their friends house to listen to Foxtrot or Selling England ByThe Pound on a music centre ( remember them? ) while drinking cider and smoking roll ups in bedroom smelling of of joss sticks with Led Zeppelin posters on the wall . I bet kids nowadays couldn't make their own entertainment with the same meagre resources - it's all legal highs , ipods and dubstep. They don't have the neccesary attention span to listen to a concept album and will never know the joy of spending an evening arguing with their mates over whether Geddy Lee is a better bass player than Chris Squire . Maybe we could rehabilitate young offenders by making them listen to Tales From Topographic Oceans all the way through . That would teach em!
It's a terrible thing the generation gap, isn't it. Us oldies just don't know we're living. And Seconds out was the best, even if most of it was rerecorded in the studio.

Could I just add for newer users of Photobucket that if you put your cursor over the direct link for the photo and RIGHT click that will automatically copy the link. That can then be entered as in Step 3.

Bass on the Boradband - Internet radio playing bass heavy music. Lots of fusiony music of all sorts. http://www.bassonthebroadband.com/

But unfortunately the stuff that is pedaled on these shows is the stuff that sells most. The 'good' stuff just doesn't sell in large quantities anymore. Even Brian May has had to admit that, and I'm sure you'll include his music as 'magical'. the music business works much more towards live concerts these days. X-Factor winners might do one, maybe two arena tours then that's it. How many people will go to the upcoming Stones tour. But at the same time how many people will buy their new CD. Not nearly as many as would have in the 70s. There is 'magical' stuff out there but it doesn't get played on the radio that much and I guess that's your point.
.... and are still doing.
Exactly. The death still goes on to this day in the name of freedom. I like to go along to our village War Memorial for the short service each year. It always annoy's me that those in their cars do not give a little respect and stop for that five or ten minutes. No, they don't have time for that. They have to get to wherever they are going. To enjoy themselves, to do what they want to do. There are many hundreds and thousands who cannot do that. Rant over.

I suppose this is similar to the cheap fiver thread on the go. Don't know anything about these basses but you will get what you pay for. BGM did a review of the Shine 6 string recently and quite liked it with the caveat of you get what you pay for. Just beware that the tone of the low B might not always be that great.
-
...and I think that is always going to be the stumbling block, the quality of tone from the low B. I'm sure you might find one or two good low Bs on cheaper fivers but that might be down to luck more than anything else.

Sorry, I should have posted that this has gone. Thanks for the interest.

Fender jazz bass convertion to V sting
BassBus replied to Soundcheck.effects's topic in Repairs and Technical
If you want the five string option why not buy an octave pedal. Turn off the natural signal and turn the octave signal on full. Then play all your notes above the 7th fret. Instant five string. Scott Devine uses that trick and he knows what he's doing. -

I'm sure it could be done. You would have to buy a new neck as I'm sure you wouldn't be able to fit five strings on a 4 Jazz neck. Buy a new bridge and new pickups and have the routings altered for the pickups. I would just persevere with selling and buy a fiver. -
I used to take all my stuff to Chris when he was in Peckham, he's excellent. Edinburgh is a bit of a mission for me now though. My gig with Mark Knopfler... now with video!
Who's Mark Knopfler?
He was the rough looking one in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, pet. -
I use Chris McIntyre in Edinburgh (and sometimes London). Setup including filing the nut £35 . Telling me it's a blend pot and not the volume I thought it was, no charge. That's why the pickup didn't work. Doh!
...(2) I took delivery in the summer, of a new series 2 headless from Status, and there's no point in having two...!!
This I do not understand! It's a Status, you need a spare. What if the new one breaks down? It won't but you still need a spare. Try uploading the photos onto one of the photo hosting sites, I use Photobucket.com. You can then copy the direct link to each photo into the window that comes up when you press the icon that looks like a wee tele at the top of the reply box. This bass has to be seen! -

I'm not sure how much the acoustics of the room contribute to the sound in these two clips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wty6jkbteVg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhncEjUrBFw

I've never been crazy about these synthetic rubber strings. A bit of work on the EQing of it and it might sound a bit better. Lovely looking bass but for me the sound lacks character.
