1. Hello slave, I don't own one but I guess a good starting point is what sort of tone/sound are you looking for and what style of music do you play? A good starting read is this thread: CLICK HERE Good luck! Cheers, Jon
2.
Just picked this BG up, should have it in a few days. 2007 Skyline with Fralins.
Blimey, the Skyline version of my US Glaub...
3. If I was in your situation I'd be ordering a new pickup, cap & pots ASAP. Probably the p'up from Wizard and electronics from WD Music. Andy/Wizard prices and service are excellent... But I'm a terrible tinkerer with basses so nothing new there
4.
If your band are getting serious gigs then really you need to be going down the Sennheiser route as this is the product that gets specified for most tours UK these days. The sound engineers will know how they work, how to mix them and most importantly how to adjust the frequency of the system so that it's not interfering with the rest of the radio systems that are being used. You have two options really G3 100 series or G3 500 Series. The 500 series is the flagship of the Evolution range and is more expensive due to the features. The 100 series retails for around £500 pre channel.
+1 to all of that
5. Hey Clarky, What about the Lace Sensor Aluma-J brutes: http://www.lacemusic.com/electric_pickups/.../bass_specs.php I reckon a pair of those in black would be a force to be reckoned with! Mad pickup technology too...
6. Well I contacted the seller on eBay with the Gold ones and... He's sold be a Chrome set for the same price - Get in! Thanks for your input chaps. Cheers, Jon
7. There you go then! I have a Shuker Classic Jazz and Jon built it just how I wanted it and it's a beaut. Good price too for a custom build. Cheers, Jon
8. I've done custom orders/builds twice now and my advice is this: Try out an example of the luthiers' work first. Even if it means organizing a meet up with someone who has an example of their work - a Bassbash for example would be perfect for this, Make sure you know EXACTLY what you want, down to the last screw. If there's any doubt or you have no idea about some part of it you are possibly leaving yourself open to an expensive disappointment, Is there a current manufacturer of something similar to what you want? Why not see if they'll do you a custom version to your taste, What about a Warmoth/USA Custom Guitars home build?, If you want to protect your investment then why not find a vintage bass rather than a custom build and see how you get on?. As said before take your time and look at it as a long term research & development project and enjoy it! Regards, Jon
9. For me: John Bonham, Dave Grohl, Matt Sorum, Taylor Hawkins, Lars Ulrich.
10. I agree that in theory you could use an instrument cable but in practice no way. You made the right choice getting an OBBM speaker cable! Calling Clarky - He's been there and done it with disastrous results unfortunately.
11. You lucky beggar! Well done and I can only imagine the relief.
12. Love the replies Guys and what a landslide vote! I didn't want to let on too early but I was swaying towards waiting a bit longer and getting the chrome tuners on it but wanted you lots' opinion. Thanks for the input, Jon
13. Stunning!
14.
If you put gold tuners on it, the next thing you know you`ll be wearing a camel hair coat and saying "Rodney, you plonker"! Or mabye not. Jez
15. Hi Jag_Bassist, When selling it really helps to have some good clear pictures of the equipment for us to see. Also where are you exactly? A local pickup from England don't really narrow it down! Regards, Jon
16.
Mixing gold & chrome hardware will look sh*t. If the price of the gold ones on Ebay is too good to miss, just give them a good going over with some Brasso & a rag - that'll get rid of the gold plating in no time.
I did wonder about something like this...
17.
Jon, NO I have seen this bass in the flesh and its a beauty. Gold will look like (as Mrs C says) "fur coat, no knickers"
Love it Clarky!
18.
Why not, you dont alway have to look like everyone else.. its unique.. what colour is the bass? when your famous it will be worth a fortune..
LOL! It's the one in my avatar.
19.
Trust you know Slash isn't his real name. It used to be P!ss and he thought that was a bit rude so he changed it.
His name didn't translate well did it
20. Great thread! Slash
21. Hello All, Here's the situation - I've got a right hand bass with a left hand neck on it. The tuners are cheap cr@ppy ones and a couple are vibrating like mad with normal play. Long story short they're not the ones I wanted on the bass so I'm going to swap them out for some matching lefty Hipshot tuners. There's a set on eBay, for a good price, but they're gold ones. The bass is all chrome hardware at the mo. I can't decide so please help me out here people. Gold or Chrome - I like both of them so there's only one way to find out......FIGHT!!! Cheers, Jon
22. Lovely colour Wes and sounds like a great build in the making! Cheers, Jon
23. Hey JJ, That's one Rock N Roll looking bass for not a lot of £££ - Love it! Good luck with the sale and have a thank-goodness-I'm-skint BUMP ATB, Jon
