Brilliant night at a local club. Loads of faces from back in the day reminded me of why the Norton audience is so good. Musically intelligent, up for fun and uninhibited. Played through my Trace Elf into a BF Midget and a TCE 2X8. If anybody tries to tell you that the Elf is a toy and only suitable for very small rehearsals or acoustic gigs, you can rest assured that person's advice is deeply suspect and to be treated with circumspection. I had to keep turning down during the soundcheck (no PA support) and ended up gain on about 2 and master the same. Got compliments from musicians in the audience on the quality of the bass sound and no one had any issues hearing me. What an exceptional little amp!

Cat just sold me an Ampeg chorus pedal, first Ampeg pedal I've tried and it's a doozy! More importantly he is a great guy to deal with, super communication, fast well packaged item, very reasonable pricing and condition precisely as advertised. Happy to recommend this most excellent Basschatter

Pub gig tonight I'll be using a small rig so I can at least know how the bass sounds. Not ready for backline free every time just yet.

I have to say it's nice contributing to this thread again. Feels like a very long time ago I last was able. Big corporate beano in Bristol and the first time I've ever played with no back line. Very strange experience but it kinda worked. I have to say without the Backbeat I would not have enjoyed it. Seems to me to be able to hear myself well and with a pleasing bass sound I'd need a monitor so good I had just as well bring an amp and cab. However the band liked it (mainly because I arrived 2 hours before them and set everything up) and the audience loved it ... eventually.

Hi @M@23 it's a twelve, with the twelve inches extension cab. I got lucky, both for sale from different Basschatters at the same time. I used a Dymo printer to label the controls by the way. I just couldn't see the writing on the mirrored back plate.

Anyone mentioned these? If so, I believe they deserve another go. Apologies to Ped, to Grolsch, and to the homebrew stores who supply the rubber ones, but these are so simple to use, under 4 quid a pair, and go on/come off so much easier, yet keep the strap tight and safe.

Hey guys, as soon as I read about it I switched to OBBM speaker cables. I'm not decrying the science. My only point was that we all used the same cables from amp to cab, from instrument to amp. Everyone I knew, every band -all of them. For years and years and years and no one I ever played with or was friends with ever suffered any problems. Which is why I wondered about it. That's all.

Don't worry, I already know how good HB stuff is.

Thanks @Woodinblack yes everything the same at home. It just seems to play up when I don't want it to. What makes no sense is why it connects to one tablet but not the other.

I use a Behringer X Air X18. I have an android tablet (call it tab 1) I save for use with it and my personal android tablet (tab 2) as back up. I use an external router. Here's the thing. At home I plug it all in and connect the tablets seamlessly. Get to a gig or rehearsal and tab 1 hangs on the 'searching' screen, forever. tab 2 seems to work just fine, but it's not ideal as my set list and dots are on it too. Any idea why tab 1 behaves this way?And more importantly what steps can I take in a gig set up situation if this happens while I'm setting up? I have no ideas beyond standing there looking bewildered. This doesn't seem to help.

I often read about the dangers of not using proper speaker cables, but tbh I only learned if the existence of such cables when I joined Basstalk. For the preceding decades I used the same cables as I used for my instruments with absolutely no ill effects. I'd often wondered if this whole speaker cable thing was a kings new clothes situation
