i only have one practical concern and that is volume - pretty much every pub gig my HA2500 head gets flogged to the limits with both the input gain and the master somewhere around the 9.5 mark!! yet it stays clean and consistent it always seems loud enough for most pubs so maybe i should just stay with it and use it as leverage to get the pesky guitarers to turn down a bit rather me needing to turn up can just about manage the whole kitload in two trips from the car!

so did anybody actually play MS last night (audience request or otherwise) for charidee?

could work either way though i guess!! the band could threaten the audience to play certain songs unless the bucket fills up quicker

[/quote] as your own skills improve you might be pleasantly surprised to find that the Ox stuff isnt as difficult to play as you might at first think (stands back and dodges the flying bottles and heavy glass ashtrays from the ox fanboys)

what is this finger stretching everyone is talking of? you are allowed to moved your whole hand at the same time as wiggling your fingers dontchaknow i have a 35 (bright active and modern) and a 34 (nice soft passive dull thump) and use them more according to the sonic needs of the song rather than any personal preference (except when my back is really aching then i'll just dump the big beast in favour of the lighter one) in response to the OP imho the main difference is really in the immediate feel and response of how they play string tension general wobbliness of strings etc etc and depending on your playing style and repertoire some things might 'feel' easier to negotiate on a 34 compared to a 35 - i do tend to practice a bit more on the 35 than the 34 for that reason - if you can nail something fiddly on the 35 it does make it feel a bit easier when you try it on the 34 edit- taking it to the extreme... i dug my old 6 string acoustic out of the cupboard a little while back and found it difficult to the point of appearing like a fumbling noobie trying to finger even the most basic chord shapes on its teenie weenie 24 inch scale and puny thin strings

is fine by me means that when decent bands need a good experienced bass player there is more chance of them coming looking for miserable old gits like me

you could try it but there is a health and safety warning... tuning the low end B down three semitones it might just flap about enough to recoil and slap you in the face
