P or J or nowt? for the purposes of this vote we shall assume stock items no sandbergs sadowskys or other gorgeous bespoke or boutique imitators thank you edit - for what my crappy ill informed opinions are worth im fully expecting this to end as a very near 50-50 split and if it deviates more than 55-45 i would be very surprised late late edit - assume that electricity is provided and there is one of every conceivable bass rig widely available to choose from so i guess the rigs you dont use you could fashion into a giant raft or treehouse or something
Not my teacup at all, but it still annoys me why it has to sound like a club remix from the off. If it sounded like a real, organic breathing band behind her it would be ten times better. IMHO if course.
and again plus one - i like it but would prefer it without the contemporary club remixiness - wonder what a 'funkin for the thrill' style remix of this would sound like
Interesting question! I am actually more of a "rhythm" bass player. I don't often think in terms of melody or harmony, unless there is a string melody already there and I want to counter it... I stick with the what the drummer is playing to a far greater degree, which kind of limits me but also frees me. It's amazing what you can accomplish in terms of syncopation by NOT playing on certain beats or notes. That is what makes the track live and breathe IMO. It also gives the more melodic instruments more options...
this but the tricky part is trying to be diplomatic and persuading the guitarer that they too can underplay and see how much more the song benefits overall

concentrate on hitting the groove with the drummist but the real tricky part is trying to put on a display of genuine concerned interest with whatever the guitarer is widdling away at (whilst actually remaining totally oblivious of course)

not being much of an effects user was just wondering is there any unwritten rules about what orders to put stuff in the effects chain ie distortion before chorus/flange or compressors before everything or distortion always at end of chain etceteraa etceteraaa or is it all a matter of personal preference?
I think I can't be much of a bass player if I have this much trouble figuring out fairly simple songs. But never mind, with the assistance of YouTube, Ultimate Guitar and helpful Basschatters, I keep muddling through
its not an easy one to figure out to be honest but its one of those ones where once you get a hint it falls into place fairly easily - and it doesnt help when you first listen to it that it seems to bounce around all over the place where it shouldnt ought to be going -
steve-bbb, a massive part of the song just dropped into place thanks to your tab You're a legend, cheers
No probs I just wrote it out it's my interpretation how my ears hear it and fits with the song and is what I play You can figure out positions and fingerings to suit your own playing comfort :-) -

we play this one in a function band and i cannot stand it - the monkees version bass line goes all over the place - its basically a 12 bar ish thing but just seems contrived and twisted for its own sake but the overall effect as part for the song just about somehow works without working if you catch my drift (getting my coat now) - oh and the infusion26 version can be simplified somewhat and still sound 'close' to the monkees if thats the effect you want to achieve was it Carol Kaye on the monkees studio version? you could always stick to the early version here which is pretty much root notes another versionhttp://youtu.be/xwUl00wOZTo as JTUK says the bass line is pretty much open to interpretation as long as you can generate the general feel and flavour of it 99% of the punters will still be dancing around their handbags totally oblivious
