1. Does exactly what it says on the tin...! Great comms - easy to sell to - Paid in cash with no hassles. No hesitation recommending as a buyer!
2.
I'm a long way from you BG I live in Lincoln.
Oh you do do you - ? Frick me a Parker fly just down the road.... I may just come and have a noodle myself! Although I'm away ths week ! Bob.
3.
Best you start saving Bob... this is 2 pieces! Not yanking your chain but I've scrutinised this for the last 15 minutes under various lights and it is centre jointed 2 piece; you can trace various wood striations to see there are no further joints other than the centre one. So I own 1 of the only 3 in the UK... bet I still can't get a trade!
J, as far as I am aware the only Swampies were finished in vintage trans yellow as my two are, It was proabably a bit missleading of me saying that yours is Alder ONLY because they were 3 piece, I have a 2 piece alder bodied one with a curly maple top - I also have a 3 piece Alder (Rhinos old one) and a 2 piece painted Alder. Yours would be very unlikely to be a Swampy as its too early as I have the Prototype that was made late 2002 but listed as 2003 and as yours is from the production run of 02 it cant be Swampash. Irrespective of what it is - it is a magnificent bass and I would love to be able to afford it. If my rifles sell in the next few weeks I may still have this ......
4.
Out of interest was this the one in the Bass Centre a few years ago, used to be Rhino Edwards (Status Quo's)?
No WH's isnt that one - I own that one (the ex Rhino Edwards one) and it was a dog when I got it. It isnt now! I would like to get hold of this one as I desperately love the Maple necked ones - Although I can clarify that WHs is in fact an Alder body as is clearly a three piece and identical to mine- The Swamp Ash bodies are 2 piece and very rare and I probably own the only 2 in the UK! If only I wasnt in the situation I find myself in I would have been biting WHs hands off for this.
5. accoustic basses just wont keep with accoustic geetars as they dont have enough volume (physical space) so in order to keep up they need to be plugged in and then you are into the region of semi-accoustics or electro accoustics. I've been down this route and it was fairly dissapointing. I'd agree the Ibanez is good and so are the Ovations.
6. There will some serious big F fans along presently but in essence the main differences are QC MIJ source some parts from the far east ( no bad thing) and have Very Good QC. MIA keep all the best parts for themselves (naturally) but their QC is shonky at best all the way from cheapest to CS. This means try before you buy because it could be an absolute soul mate or shonky crap. MIM as above, most parts (lesser cuts of body blanks) are shipped from the US and assembled in Mex. QC not as good as Jap and parts not as good as Jap or US but sometimes there is an absolute peach amongst them. Highway series are normally very good MIA using good std US sourced parts. Finishes vary but designed to wear quickly so they get 'road worn' quicker. Hence the 'highway' name tag. I like the Highway series, proper US made but without the silly price tag. In fact they are cheap enough to get one and upgrade it - Try first tho.....
7. I thiink pushing it down to C might be beyond it. You will need a larger gauge than you are used to to get the tone. Model I cant tell you without a pic of your Squire. All 5 of my PRSs have them on now and great bits oif kit....
8. for those that dont know what Emrald bronco and tan look like - I have found this pic (its a Stilleto but you get the idea) ! http://www.musicplayers.com/reviews/guitar...StilettoAce.php
9. Tino has first dibs. If you can meet me 1/2 way that would be great....?
10. I'm not at home at the mo so cant put up pics - (will be able to at the weekend if any interest!) Basically change of circs is forcing me to re evaluate - I have a perfectly good practice set up so I dont have space for this as well. Its a mint 2006 WS as listed above finished in Emerald Bronco (dark green) and Tan leather - It also has a Tan Jute grill - It was a very expensive custom order - £750 cash - no offers or P/Xs please. Am prepared to meet 1/2 way reasonable distances from Lincoln. Or can post as I have the original box and wrapping but at your expense. If genuinely intersted please PM. Will run it on here for a week or two & if it doesnt go then I'll 'bay it.
11. It might be be as good as a really good F jazz but it will most certainly be better than a crap one! Love the matching headstock even if red doesnt float my boat!
12. If you want a gamble then Fender...... It could be superb or a pig. The sensible choice would be 'ray or Bongo but again it may depend a bit on who you play with (or intend to at a later stage) as they may look at you like you've just dropped out of the V mother ship if you turn up with anything other than a Fender. If it were my money knowing what I know now - then it would be the EBMM.
13. Ahem the other 3 Threads - I've done that now. Marco to save having to re post just add another post with the word bump in it and post it then the post will re appear at the top of the page....... Bob.
14. CDB, If I wasnt besotted by Smith products then German basses would be where its at for me. If anyone persuades me to gig regularly than it will be a big W called into action for that. They are easy to play, easy to set up sound great and are next to warzone proof...! All in all add up to a recipe for IMHO probably the best commercially available range of basses for the working bass player.
15. The move from the UK to there should be managed carefully but once out there and its used to it, it wil be fine. It will require setting up but once its stabilised it will be as it is here. Remember its not green wood - it is well sorted and now fairly old. All its wild bowing days are well behind it! (unless you abuse it of course!)
16. I do like the Stew Mac proper diamond jobbies tho' they make it so much more accurate.
17. thx bud I didnt realise they were so cheap....... I may as well buy some suitable ones rather than tie up yours!
18. Does anyone have a set that I can borrow to open up the slots on a new nut I have for my hack PRS please? I'llpay postage both ways if not local. Anyone? bob.
19. You could do a PRS /Vigier swoopy cut away shape.
20. if that had blk hardware and no scratchie I would have it - love these basses!
21. Pair of passive single coil J working as a humbucker when both on. There is not much this combination cannot do.
22. I believe the Orange little terror or one of their models will happily sit with both.......
23.
In summary; I'm likely going to replace the electronics in one of my basses in order to tweak a bit of tone from it, as the playability is superior to anything else that I own.
As thats being done by members on here everyday I'm surprised that wasnt your first thoughts on this quest for nirvana..... I've even been harbouring a plan to do that to a PRS (as you now know), so thats an area that is much easier to achieve. Do you know what the missing % of you tone is tho' ? or is it something that isnt quite right? The 'isnt quite right' option is a right bugger to find.
24.
Hmmm hence my dilemma.
There is no dilemma - you've been Smithed !!!!!
