1. Roland cube 30 or 100. cant go wrong really. Or Fender B-dec.
2. I have a Baritone guitar tuned down to A. But just use the heaviest gauge D'addario Baritone strings to get the tunings.
3. HJ - couldn't agree more, as Steinies were close to indestructible, I would've took hold of it by the neck and twatted him. Should've at least been a beat up P or better still an EUB or better still an upright with PUP. What a muppet, and I'm not convinced he was actually fingering the bassline properly. Oh well. The 80's were a dull time musically apart from the NWOBHM, and the realisation the blues could be mainstream.
4. Hmmmmn, interesting topic this. Well as love is tricky emotion at the best of times, and having been there a few times with humans I think there is a similar but different type of love involved with basses. As we can love as many basses as we like without ending up in fisty cuffs, court, or emotional difficulties then I can answer your question with a resounding yes. However my love is complicated. You see I had a mad and passionate affair with my 1st PRS swampy and still now that thing can make me wild, however I think my 'life partner' will be the Ugly duckling ex Rhino Edwards 'burst EB IV. You see I saw the potential in this one, changed it to how I had worked out would make it best it could be, and persuaded it it to change. It has delivered in Caterpillar 632G loads........ For that I respect it, and cherish it as a true companion. It is simply 'my sound' and yes I love it. The right hand one of these 2 (Oh and for those who dont know the 632G http://www.uk.cat.com/cmms/16927139?x=7 )
5. Thanks guys, re-assured now! Bits on order!
6. Just speccing upgrade items for my de-fret job. Anyone actually use a D-tuner on a 4 string fretless? Is is something you would consider or does it just make your brain go all wobbly? I do use drop D tuning occasionally but not sure if I'd use the fretless for those numbers, or once I have it will (the fretless) I want to use it for everything?
7. Ovation is the way to go. Not silly money but very good instruments. A secondhand Viper if you can get one (fits your bill perfectly) or one of these:- http://www.ovationguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=55
8. It looks a bit Fendery to me...... I haven't got any now to check against, but certainly not D'addario or GHS.
9. Damn, bugger, blast! If you'd done it the other way 'round I'dve had it off you in a flash! Oh well!
10. Was it stolen....? That was truly a bargain.... but we must have pics!
11. Plain wood every time (as long as its nice wood which that is!)...!!!!!
12.
Isn't the OP after a C neck (ie a wide P-neck) rather than a B?
T'was my understanding that the OP meant a 1.625" neck (or and not the C neck as they are indeed rare! Both those I mentioned have a a B or 41.5mm nut width, however well spotted that man! .
13.
Hi, I'm looking for a Fender with this spec: 4 string Passive Wide P-neck P and J pups Does such a thing exist, please? Steve
Yes it does. I and several other BCers have owned one of these beasts.... (although it is active with lace sensors you can switch off the pre-amp and play it passive, and IME it sounds better!) 40th Anniversary CS P bass..... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Custom-Shop-4...=item4a99f4791c Enjoy. Oh and this but not sure about how good they are....... http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0130095306
14.
Hmmmm, I thought that 'might' be the case but I had hoped that there might be a consensus that one outweighed the other, especially as you are essentially looking at a very similar beast that costs (new) about the same!
IME you are gambling buying a Fender without having your hands all over it before you part with your cash. There would appear to have been a very similar problem with Gibson recently as well (certainly guitars but not so sure about basses to be fair!). This is a crying shame as both of these brands are seen as market leaders but that it would appear has lead to complacency. Try before you buy and don't settle for anything that would niggle is my advice.
15.
As far as I'm aware...the road worn and highway one series are both made in Mexico.
Wrongski I'm afraid the H1 is MIA. The Nitro finish on the H1 is SUPPOSED to be thin and to chip and crack easily hence the reason its will look 'played in' very quickly and look like its been 'on the road' (or highway as they like to say in the US of A). The Road worn is MIM nitro finished but pre-reliced. As to which is best....? Your guess is as good as mine with Fenders QC. The H1 P that I had was very good but I made it that by ditching all the std stuff and upgrading it. You could get an absolute peach of a MIM Road worn or a pig in either model.
16.
Luckily I now have a room for my gear. I take them out and play/polish them all especially if ive been neglecting any. Because they are all in proper supported hard-cases, I don't worry about it. Its better than having them on a stand getting bumped. Personally, hardcase with a few hours play every now and then wont hurt. Just watch out as sometimes the chrome can get strange 'bits' collected on it...so I always wipe the chrome down. In
Spot -on. If it has a HSC for that bass then that is the best place for it. 3 of my 5 live in the HSC most of the time, and come out and get swapped around for a while ( I just haven't room to have them all out, all of the time). By all means lob in a small Silica gel sachet 'in the case' but not next to paint or wood. ( I put 2x 1" ones in the accessories compartment of the HSC ) also good advice about wiping fingerprints off metal surfaces and clean the strings too (I use fast fret for this chore). they then live in the HSC laid flat on a carpeted floor (to avoid sudden temp swings) this equates to very happy little basses!
17. .......eerrrrrrm - There's no option for I'm not that bothered as long as it has been looked after properly......? I have bought 2 2ndhand PRSs that are in better condition than the 2 Brand new ones sent over to me from a shop in the states. Not because the shop didn't look after them, but because Saturday afternoon heroes dinged them whilst f++king about with them in the shop! (both have minor dings that do little to detract from the value or playability but annoying nevertheless)
18.
The main thing is some people think they look quite cool
Along with 1000s upon 1000s of Fender Strat owners................
19. Another for schaller...... das German engineering at its best!
20.
Any chance of buying that fender 5 of you? and if so how much? gee
I can understand you asking that - This is by far the nicest looking Fender I have seen in ages.....! Good luck!
21. I dont as a rule get gushy about bass players. My G'tard has got me researching and learning Derek and the Dominos tracks becaues he likes shredding EC stylee. The more I listened the more I realised that the bass player wasnt just good, he was very very good and made very clever use of what, and how he played. As a wise Blues player said to me some time ago, "you'll know when you have it son, you dont play the blues, you have the blues!" The more I listen to Radle's playing the more I realise he most certainly 'had it!' When out of curiosity I wiki'd Radle to find out what he was doing now, I discovered he died in 1980 at 38 from drugs and booze abuse...... What an absolute waste and a crying shame. So for those of you that dont know of this amazing talent - http://www.carlradle.com/index.htm
22.
just catching up from being 'tinternetless for a while - glad I was 'cause mrs juice may just have had to stop my credit card if I'd seen this on the bay! so glad you got it in the end mate - I'm holding out for 5er now i think - I'd love a 6er but as they are custom build only I think they are as rare as hens dentists. Take care, Juice. (we really should introduce our 'children' some time! )
We should - A local bash I think was being muted not long back. I'm really pleased with this one. It is really good, that being said its still that damn 'burst ex Rhino Edwards one that get picked up as the standard. It was like an ugly duckling, and I know why he decided to let it go. I'd bet a good size house that he wouldnt if he got near it now! As to 5-6stringers. Since I have been into all matters 'Smith, I have only seen one Curly bass 5 for sale in the US and it was a dog. I still have my plan to buy myself a GG 5 from private stock when I retire in 45 months. Keep in touch and good to see you back online bud!
23. I prefer playing to a drum machine anyway - They are cheaper and far more reliable than drummers........ Oh and they slow down and speed up when you want them too and you dont have to keep buying them beer and lugging all the bl00dy kit around...! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ZOOM-MRT-3-MRT3-MICR...=item3a58bc6362
