1. When I came back to playing the bass after an extended break I was determined to learn to play finger style, only because it seemed to look more proper and I thought my groove playing would improve. I learnt the finger style and started using with my bands. Just didn't sound right to me, no attack, and I found with a little more thought I could play grooves just as well with the pick. As has been said before, learning finger style means that I don't have to panic if my pick goes AWOL part-way though a track.
2.
Come and say hi if you're around. Footwear - thanks for the tips all, but I don't have any wellies (and it's too late to get any) so it's road-worn DMs for me. They've seen action at Glastonbury 1998 (a simple google image search of "glastonbury 1998" will show that this summer is a heatwave in comparison) and various outdoors gigs/fests since.
a couple of carrier bags for your feet if it all gets too much.
3. It's been discussed loads. It's up to the individual, makes no difference to groove, talent or respect. Tone is the only thing affected.
4.
student with a black backpack dancing like a nutter, it's probably me.
that'll narrow it down.
5. I have to say that the Beatles shop in Liverpool is a disappointment compared to the one in Baker Street, London.
6. Not quite a crash but... Returning from rehearsals one night with a band I in (not on bass) we loaded everything into the back of the bass players people carrier and set off down the road. All of a sudden there was an almighty crash and the sound of beeping horns. Basically, he'd forgotten to close the back doors properly and everything spilled out onto the road including his very heavy Gallien Kruger combo. We were incredibly lucky that no-one was hurt and no vehicles were damaged. Amazingly the only damage caused to equipment was to my CDJ which was easily fixed. Another lesson learned.
7. That's a cool space you've got there.
8. It is a sample. The original track escapes me at the moment.
9. My rule of thumb is. Work first, festival after.
10. It's probably more to do with environment and upbringing. My grandfather was a landscape oil painter and my mum was a painter and sculptor (both for pleasure rather than income). I am a graphic artist. I don't think I inherited this via a gene, it's more to do with growing up in an environment where I felt at ease exploring the creative side of things.
11.
I thought that honour belonged to Elton John?
I think Blur are getting there.

13.
as we havent had them on here for a while heres one for any cardiac noobs http://youtu.be/OxhuQWKwbqY
pure class. such a shame about Mr Smith.
14. As far as I'm concerned, if he's up for it he should be there. Was fortunate enough to blag a ticket for one of their Twickenham shows a few years back. Not to put anyone else down, it didn't seem right without Bill.
15.
the BG 29 I have for sale is fretted. I don't mind if you want to come round and have a test drive, no problem at all.
Thanks for the offer, but I think you are bit far away from London.
16. Nice one SpaceChick. I'm sure you'll have a blast.
17. Thanks for the advice guys. Afraid a those shops are a little out of town for me. Looks like I'll have to brave Denmark Street after-all. Thanks for the offers TransAxle and bgd1 but I'm after a fretted one and I think I'd prefer to sit down and try several to see what suits better. I'll let you know how I get on.
18. I'm thinking of getting myself a, not too expensive, acoustic bass in the next couple of days for noodling around on at home. I've been looking online but I prefer to try before I buy. The Bass Centre and The Bass Gallery don't appear to have a particularly large stock of acoustics according to their website so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to go in London. I know Denmark Street is the obvious choice but am up for trying somewhere else. Cheers
