1. Ok, just got back from the pharmacist and said it looked like it may be a little infected. He's given me some magnesium sulphate and told me to see a doctor if it hasn't cleared up by tuesday. He reckons either way it'll be sorted for the gig.
 2.
Hc45 cream and ice.....
Cheers Bob. Just checked the advice on hc45 and it says not to use on broken or infected skin. unfortunately the skin looks slightly broken and it may be a little infected.
 3. Hi BCers. I'm after a bit of advice. I've got an important gig coming up next saturday and I've got some kind of insect bite on the index finger of my fretting hand. It's quite swollen but small and painful to the touch. It's not on the end of my finger but about half way down so it does make contact with the frets. I feel I should be practicing like billio but also want to rest the finger so as not to do any more damage to it. We'll be playing for about 30 mins so was wondering if anyone knew of any localised pain killing technique that would get me through the gig if it's still painful. Cheers, Paul
 4. Pretty good. Had an evening working out the set for The Beards first ever gig next Saturday at Montague Arms SE15. First bass gig I've had for years so pretty anxious and excited at the same time.

 6.
Interestingly though it was wholey written by Brian Wilson's "shrink" at the time, Dr Eugene Landy. Landy is now the subject of a restraining order I think, due to his apparently manipulative treatment of Brian, and Brian himself stood up in court and attested that not only had he not written the book, he never in fact read the manuscript. That's not to say the book wasnt an excellent read, however, I enjoyed it! I'm just not sure how much of it is really true.
Interesting, I never knew that. Seems as though I now need to read something from Brian. Any recommendations?
 7.
Mike Love? The singer? Tell me more
You should read Brian Wilson: Wouldn't It Be nice. It is an excellent but heart breaking book.
 8. John Entwistle had an Alembic Baby Brown with one fitted in his collection. I don't think he used it much though. Font right in this picture. Edited to include image
 9.
There is a sticky thread on this, albeit in a slightly odd location: http://basschat.co.u...vs-bridge-only/ You will, of course, find that I gave the definitive answer on that thread.
cheers
 10.
Seems to me that more serious recording bass players use flats (that's not to say those using rounds are not serious, Jaco par example). I wanted to try them on my Stingray, what's good enough for 'Nard etc. Trouble is, if they don't do it for me there's £30 odd down the drain. (That little problem kind of solved as I have just been given an Amazon voucher for my birthday!) Flats get polished? Anyone know what 'Nard used?
status do sets for around £15.
 11.
I think my assumption has been that the extra downward force on the bridge would create a better connection to the body of the Bass, allowing for better sustain by helping eliminate errant vibrations which would dampen sustain. I would worry about the break angle though, I think having the strings run from the end of the Bass, instead of from the back, would be better.
that was my next thought. A trapeze style bridge?
 12.
You don't feel tension, you feel compliance, so for a given tension altering the compliance will affect how the string seems to play.
so it may be the solution after-all?
 13.
Anything between the witness points (nut or zero fret and bridge saddle) and where the string is ultimately anchored will have an effect on the compliance and feel. The only way to find out if the changes are significant enough to be important to you is to try them.
I guess for me it would be less about compliance and more about tension. A couple of years ago I switched to short-scale as my hands were starting to feel the ravages of time. It works really well for one of my bands but the other band has always tuned down a semi-tone which makes the E string feel and sound like a flaccid elastic band. I thought that the string-through method may have offered a solution but it seems I may have to come up with something else.

 15.
You are the bass player. Unless you sh*t yourself and then caught fire nobody will notice.
DOH!
 16. Thanks guys. That is what I suspected. Just wanted to check before I took a Black & Decker to my bass.
 17. I wonder if anyone can give some advice or at least confirm or deny what I have heard. I've read somewhere that using a through body type of bridge adds extra tension and thus extra sustain. Is this really true as the strings are still effectively the same length as using a regular bridge?
 18.
IMO you buy a bass because you want to play it, not as an investment. Everyone i know who has bought a bass as an investment has ended up selling it within a couple of months for more or less the price they bought it for. Bass guitars are meant to be played, not to sit in their cases while their owners wait for them to go up in value. If you want to make an investment, buy a painting, not a bass
I know someone who has an attic full of Ricks and Taurus bass pedals for investment, not played.
 19.
This is great stuff.
Holly's monkey gland injections seem to have kicked in.
 20. you could try this. we've used them for recording and the price is reasonable. http://shrunkenheadsstudios.com/
 21. I use the B2M. It's a stand alone unit, but isn't 100% accurate.
 22. PM me and we can talk about logo design if you fancy.
