1. Sorry to post yet another "sacked off with certain member/s of band" thread but I believe it's crunch-time for me. One of my bands is about to play our first gig after 3 years of jamming, writing and rehearsals. Thing is I'm sadly thinking that I have no choice but to jack it in after the gig. I've tried, but I just can't get on with one of the band members. He is incredibly rude to the lovely friendly guys who run our rehearsal space, he wants creative control though all he can offer is obstructive comments about songs he refuses to play, at rehearsal he doesn't play to best of his ability as he says he wants to save himself for his gym/tennis session, he never seems to want to be at any of our sessions when he's there and he is generally grumpy, narky and sulky. Also he constantly makes sweeping statements about genres of music that he doesn't like, want to play or be influenced by i.e. reggae, dub, punk, jazz or anything 80s. I've spoken to the guitarist about this and he agrees with me but seems more prepared to let things go. I don't feel as though we can kick him out as he is one of the founder members. What I am thinking of doing is resigning from the band in the new year and asking the guitarist, who is great, creative and really easy going, to join my other band. I know this may seem a bit sneaky and underhanded but I would sooner walk than get to the point were we have a huge falling out, which is likely if the band carries on. It would be a real shame as we have written some great stuff and been getting really positive feedback. Sorry to burden you all with this but I just needed to get it off my chest before I flip. PS. his playing isn't that great either.
2.
Brilliant! I thank you sir
you are very welcome. I'll be here all week.
3. age has got nothing to to do with it mate. did my first gig playing bass for over 25 years last month at the age of 46 and I was by no means the oldest git that took the stage that night. go for it, what have you got to lose?
4. is the house number 664, the neighbour of the beast? I'll get my coat.
5.
I find gloss finishes sticky and slow and my nitro finished Warmoth slim taper jazz neck super fast and very comfortable.
If you have a "sticky" finish to a neck, just take some fine wire wool to it.
6.
I think 'relegated' is the incorrect term...promoted would be more appropriate...
quite right
7. Played down the studio last night with new strings on. Wow, what a difference. Can't be sure whether it's purely down to the stings having no bindings or just the strings themselves. Either way, I'm more than happy, for the time-being.
8. Had a go at learning guitar, got on better with picking out riffs than chords so a mate suggested I try bass.
9. Just picked up some labellas from the wonderful guys at Wunjo bass shop, Denmark Street. They even gave me a discount!
10.
The only place I've ever seen those is eBay. I thought they were a project by one enterprising individual, rather than something produced commercially with distribution. The question is whether they're worth it. I'm not convinced silks over the saddle is a problem.
yeah, I was thinking it may be a nice little project for my bro'. I think the bindings on a saddle must make a difference to tone, just depends what tone you are after. Just bought a set of LaBellas to see if it makes a difference.
11. the hofner strings look bit pricey and the labella seem to be out of stock in the uk. any suggestions for anywhere in the uk that may have the labella in stock?
12.
Also worth checking Hofner own-brand flatwounds. Have a look at this: http://www.hofner-gu...v61-cavern.html
cheers mate

14. Thanks neepheid. Yeah, it looks as though the hipshot bridge doesn't help the binding/saddle issue. I'm looking to change my strings first of all to see if that helps. The reason I'm having second thoughts over the Schaller bridge is that after measuring up yesterday it appears that the new screw holes will not be hidden if I was to change back to the three point bridge.
15. I normally use Status short-scale flats. However, I recently purchases a Gibson SG bass and it is fitted with the three point gibson bridge. The bridge design means that the binding sits on the saddles. This also happens with the replacement hipshot super tone bridge. I was going to replace it with a Schaller 3D bridge but the additional screw-holes wouldn't be as hidden as I thought they would if I was to ever put it back to it's original state for sale purposes.

17. Hi all, just trying to find out if anyone does a short scale flat wound that has no binding at the bridge end. cheers, Paul
18. does anyone know if there is an outlet in the uk for one of those "mod-bars"?
19.
I still don't understand why you're putting yourself (and your bass) through all this bother, particularly when there's a Supertone available right now in the Classifieds: http://basschat.co.u...-bridge-chrome/ which will fit straight on, no need to worry about earthing or bushes or drilling holes in your bass. This is the last time I'll mention it. To answer your question then yes, in theory as long as they're touching metal to metal then it should be enough for earthing. But are the tops of the bushes proud of, flush with or recessed into the top of the body?
I've been giving some thought to the super tone bridge. Would it solve the problem of bindings sitting on the saddles? This is one of the main issues I want to solve. Paul
20. Think they are both important but for me it has to be Jeff Beck for keeping his guitar playing moving forward. Star Cycle blew me away when I first heard it.
