1. Had to dress up, although most of my gear was back in the dressing up box at this stage.
2. I had some great service from Bass Merchant last week. Ernie Ball super slinkies for me please!
3. I have a Marcus Miller sig and apart from the obvious wouldn't be much different from this one. I think my MM is the best bass I have ever played. This is a great buy. Have a bump on me.
4. Just become the proud owner of a brand new SA450 for £499. The LMII was less. I got them online from The Bass Merchant and the service was top class.
5. Considering my grandfather was at Dunkirk I reckon I could do Geddy Lee with one hand behind my back, I wouldn't though beacause I think he is God.
6. My ears have arrived! Top marks to Bass Merchant! small problem was sorted out immediately with no problems, no questions. Could have caused me some grief without the ears.
7. I forgot about Level 42 for many years. Saw them twice in early /mid 80's as a young shaver. Bought retroglide for the hell of it when it came out and saw them at the Symphony Hall last tour. They were absolutely fantastic as was retroglide. I had forgotten all about the chinese way un til they encored with it. It was better than a w***. BBC you may be right about King but I would stay well awy from Husband on the drums, he has got a head like a fire bucket and hands that would rival Phil Parks's.
8. Saw Dave Meros from Spocks Beard and had a nice chat with him last night, his Eden sounded great. My mate took about 1000 pictures and I asked him to take some of the stack. When I get the pictures I'll post a new topic and report on some of the trivial bass banter we had. Great night and I know there are some Beard fans on here. Back to thread his Eden sounded great to my ears .....
9. I phoned up The Bass Merchant and he said he had a pair of Mark Bass ears floating around and was pretty sure that were from the SA450, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. To be honest if that fails I dont think it's beyond my capabilities to ebay some cheap "standard" ears and relocate a few holes if needs be, even though Im from West Bromwich. Then again I have no experience of racking. (ooeerr!!) I like the look of the gator stuff, anybody good or bad with gator?
10. cheers Mark, hope to pop over late August. I'll give you a shout.
11. I painted all your electrical switchgear about 15 years ago, form breakers to pylons. All the boyoes wanted to do was drink Brains Bitter and claim benefits and moan at us English for doing the work. I just ... or do I... queue smillie
12. Mr Fudge BUMP. I love mine. But not in a biblical sense ..
13. Bass Merchant £499. Can't wait to plug it in. I WILL get over to Bass Direct sometime to try out a few cabs with my new head. Cabs are my next project and Leamington is on my to do list. although perhaps I should stay well away because I have fallen in love with .... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...sh_Natural.html Cheers
14. I am the proud owner of Marbass SA450. Im off to get a rack unit in the morning. Are the ears standard for this model. I know the LMK had its own ears. I have the screws ... you think £500, they would throw in the ears. Also any general racking info would be great. Cheers. If I can get my cab out of storage for an hour tomorrow afternoon I will gig it on the night.
15. I picked up a Live Hits Level 42 album from the US a year or two ago. The bass cuts through a treat. There is fantastic musicianship and songwritting from start to finish. The album has a picture of a skyscraper on the front (Level 42). I paid about £3 for it. Slaptastic!
16.
I have a speakon to speakon you can have Fudge. I might be up there in a couple of weeks. I might not though. P.
I think I need a speakon to jack. We have B&Q boxes full of speakons to speakons. Be sure to check out the latest addition to my family, Marcus .... If you leave it any longer you might have a non bass addition to check out as well.
17. Cheers. I did mess around with the knobs and did find some good sounds. I have looked carefully at the manuals on line and had some great advice from bass chatters. I ended up ordering the SA450. I know I will get on with this amp. I also know I need more headroom, depth and clarity. I thing I get most od my tone through a pretty aggressive finger style. No great plan behind this, just the way things have developed over the years ... and being a massive Rush fan.
18. The amp was all I added to my cart. Are ears standard? anticipates spock joke whilst excited about spocks beard on monday. The words F****N YES! spring to mind.
19. I've done it and bought the SA450 from bass merchant. Next .... the speakon cable to jack from head to cab I assume doesn't come with amp. I have never used one of these leads, do they have a name? can you recommend a make? Also after spending £500 I am a bit reluctant to put it in a bag. I have never had rack mounted amps before. I realise the I need the "ears". Any advice or recommendations on rack mounting. Cheers. I have found some of the advice and help invaluable on here, keep up the good work.
20. Cheers Dave et al ... If I feel the same way after a good nights sleep Im biting the bullet for the SA450
21. Great stuff. I love the Robin. Hope I can make it next time.
22. +1 for speaking Brummie. Im from The Black Country and can't understand a word they say. I buy my childrens toys from a shop called "TOYS WE AM" Anyway, Bass Merchant has Mark Bass SA450 and LMII both up under £500. I am tempted. Which one??? It would be going through my 4x10 Mag in the near future, or at least end of the summer. What do you think. Cheers.
