1. potty training here we come ...
2. EV ones that bounce when dropped. SM ?? too harsh for my ears.
3. He was also one of the nicest blokes I have ever met. They say never meet your heroes! That's bullsh*t in this case. A true gent.
4. Thinking about it when they brought out the 3 dvd job and the audio for GUP. The bass and everything else for that matter sounded incredible ... and that was the steinberger. If you are looking Geddy save yourself a packet if you come back to the UK. You can use my ashdown and Miller Jazz. It's miller time /tone ....
5. Having a tidy up of my pictures tonight and took a picture of Norm's rig when I had the privillege of supporting the blockheads last November. I did post at the time but I'm sure I didn't include a picture of his rig at the time. As far as I remember there was just a lead from amp to guitar. and guess what ... he sounded incredible.
6. GEDDY LEE IS GOD!!!! The tone is in the right hand! On Moving Pictures ged play his ricky and his jazz. I probably found this out 25 years later, still can't tell which is which. Even the steingerger from GUP sounds like his ricky/ jazz. The only distinctive sound really was the wal on Power Windows. I listen back to previous live/studio Rush before about '98 and must say his tone was better without all the technology. I wish someone would tell him!
7. I dont play my bass in the kitchen so its not a problem. Her shackles don't allow her more than 6ft from the stove. (Before you start throwing things at me remember I am kidding and I love you all)
8. I feel a trip to bass direct in Leamington approaching. I was looking at them last night on their site.
9. My ashdown 4x10 are 8ohm as is I believe the combo, so there could be some nice variations here. I like the fact that I can just take the combo to gigs and even sit it back on the angle as well. My ears are getting old! Bigger gigs I can squeeze some through the PA. We have a potentially a 1.5 k rig if we wheel the powereb bottoms out. Is Bass Direct in Brum? I'll have to google it. Thanks all for the input. appreciated
10. I tried out a markbass combo on Saturday. It was the 250w (I think) with the 2x10 speakers. I was very impressed! Currently I have a mag 300 ashdown head and the tuned 4x10 cab that goes with it. I am in no rush to chop and change gear but I would like to get into the higher end of the market. So ... I am planning on keeping my ashdown rig whatever, theoretically it will become a spare. That means I could run the combo with my 4x10 ashdown if I wanted, buy a markbass head first and use ashdown speakers, buy 2x10 or 4x10 mark bass speakers and run it with the mag for a while? Use a single 15? combo or seperates? all at once or bit by bit? any ideas please?
11.
hey matey, I followed your link to your website and it tried something that raised a "site tried to load a virus" flag in Norton and spyware ... Freespace will do that sort of thing sometimes .. better to shell out 30 quid and move your site to paid for space .. helps Google too ... OG ...
we have got an official site that my mate Paul H on here sorted for us. www.thebusbybabes.net I use the freewebs thing because I've found it very simple. I suppose I ought to get of my backside in gear and sort out a new format. The official one is obviously a bit more serious but there is a link to the freewebs one which is fyll of sh*te. Cheers....
12.
Sorry guy's, it was the first thing that came into my head. He does look like a small Scotish woman, maybe I need help!
I for one am not giving up the dream. She does exist because ..... It would make a great bandname/ eponymous/ concept album. Every song will have to end in Bb ....
13. Can't own up to ZZ Top, but we do play this town aint big enough for the both of us donning berets and black gaffa tape moustaches.
14. A bloke who is late 40's and who has been a regular attendee at gigs for 3/ 4 years now turned up with slightly longer and very badly dyed hair. I was almost sick in the toilets through laughter. I asked the singer to tell him to go home because I did not think I would be able to complete the gig. He then asked me to keep to tins of spam safe for a late night fishing expedition. At the end of the night 3 of us surrounded the drummer and chanted the sontaran battle cry at him for a few minutes (Dr Who a few weeks ago). Got in about 2.30am, woke up this morning still p$$$$$$$$$g myself over the prevoius nights antics. Watched Dr Who with my 2 sons. Business as usual.
15. Small world. i was doing the crossword with a science teacher this morning who probably hasn't changed his pants for 12 years. Somehow we got round to talking about pentangle and of course Danny Thompson who plays with God, his namesake Richard Thompson. That's what I call a guitarist...
16. Yes those young ladies wrists, just like Saddam Husseins, gave it away .... and the fact that she stamped my ticket on a recent trip to The Royal Yacht.
17. A few years ago I bought a bass collection bass as a back up. It's a cracking bass to play, very light and a very skinny fast neck. I first had a similar one back in the '90's as it made transition from guitar to bass easier. Eventually as I became a bass player and not a guitar player I graduated to jazz basses. It is in very good condition. It is active, I think it only makes an output with battery in. I am pretty sure that there are no mods on it. I would not say it sounds brilliant but it certainly does a job. Probably ease of playing and weight are big plus points. Perhaps a beginer or young shaver would enjoy this bass. Any sale will help fund my venture into high end amps and cabs. Sorry about the picture. Its the picture I kept from its ebay auction. There is no case. I seem to remember my winning bid being £130. If there is any genuine interest I will get it out the loft and post some more pictures.
18. Had standard US for years. Picked up a Marcus Miller a few months ago. BEAUTIFUL. I would like to try a Lakland though ...
19. I have a 300w MAG with the tuned cabinet and it has done a good job for the money. I am however seriously thinking of stepping into higher end bass amp market. I have looked at some markbass stuff. Would getting a new head for the Ashdown cab first be good or vice versa. Sorry I don't wish to highjack a thread and I may post a seperate thread. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas?
20. If that Jazz had of had a maple board I would probably sold one of my kidneys for it. Stunning bass.
21. I really got into Level 42 in the early 80's. At the time I was also into prog and rock. 20 something years later i still love it all. The same thing could be said for country music. There is some beautiful country music about and there is also some really awful stuff. Did anybody ever get into the Lyle Lovett country/ jazz/ blues stuff in the 90's. Oh happy car crash....
22. I have a US97 standard jazz. Wonderfull bass. I decided that with a significant birthday approaching this year I would buy a vintage P. After all I already have a great jazz! So before I tried some vintage stuff I thought I'd dabble with some new p's to get a bit of perspective. In the shop was a Marcus Miller. Within 0.2 seconds I knew I was going to buy it. I find it superb! The neck and action are incredible, it weighs in a bit lighter than my US jazz and the active is just right for me. I'm a fairly aggressive player, so if you roll abit of tone off what you put in with the fingers doeasn't become too much. I am certainly no expert, but please try one. If the Geddy sigs are built as well as the Marcus sigs then I would imagine that these are well worth a look. Very possibly the same experience minus the active and of course the beautiful pearl block inlays. Good Luck
23. I likes me fender jazz. I've tried numerous others, cheap and expensive, old and new and I wouldn't swap. Great workhorse/ gigging bass in my experience. I would like to try a Lakland though .....
