I like Kev's idea of mixing and matching with the ME50 to start with. Vasectomy post op night bump. Not to bad at all really. I consider it to be my Dunkirk! Looking at the Dave Hall VT1. Im not looking at distortion just a Geddy Lee Moving Pictures grunt, or a bit of the Ox. We increasingly play a bit more punk in the 2nd half and I wondering if this is a good match. Oww, my poor plumbs!

Not sure really? I wont be getting rid of the ME50 so a board would be an ongoing project. Would probably look to get high quality stuff 2nd hand. I've looked at a few threads on compressors etc and Im looking for advice.

Take a Fender Jazz just in case.

Gas, 6 weeks holiday, impending vasectomy and third baby have got me thinking? My public bass playing will be curtailed for all of the above reasons for a month. In that time I get my rig home and perhaps go the individual effects route. At the moment I have a Boss ME50 and to be honest it's done a good job, apart from the none existent synth effects that my bosted zoom used to do very well. What I would like? A compressor, a nice valve drive, flanger/phaser, synth effect ( a really good one ), and a new wah. I bouyght a morley guitar wah which sounds excellent for my guitar but a bit thin and a bit of a drop in output for bass. If I don't need any of this and you think my boss, or an upgrade multi effects is the way then please tell me. cheers from Mr Fudge.

Had a well paid rehearsal at a cricket club. Third gig with my MarkBass SA450. Christ this is a great amp.

I thought I was bad enough with 3 basses, 4 guitars, a piano , a harmonica in G major. I think you have Bass autism .. not that that is a bad thing.

There seem to be a lot of gorgeous basses floating around for knock down prices. Out of interest if so many members threw in say £100 how many of these wonderful specimins could be bought and potentially at some stage lots of people could get a few months with each bass before handing it on. I suppose you would never get to own it but for a fee would often get a great bass to enjoy for a few months. The logistics of which would make my head explode because I'm from West Bromwich, but I know people who have done a similar thing with art in the past.

I change my pants every day and my strings probably every 2 months thats almost 15% if my calculations are right. I am also planning on changing my Gas provider (real Gas) that should get it down to a modest 12.5% if interest rates hold again next month.

I have an old steamer in the garage, then I may dry them off in the microwave.

Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton was the biggest and he Oddfellows Arms in West Brom the smallest.

The compression on my Boss ME50 is the only one I have ever used. I think I select "natural". I would like to know more about them though as at some stage I may go down the seperate effects route.

99% of the time unplugged. My main bass is in a corner of the front room on a stand. I probably pick it up 2 or 3 times every night for anywhere between 30 seconds to half an hour. I do it without thinking most of the time. The kids and mrs are watching the telly and Im in the same room having a quick plonk. Very bizzare to the untrained ete I would imagine.

It can all get very complicated with crossovers etc... Too complicated for me. For years our passive bass bins linked to EV tops and a dynachord desk were little more than very heavy speaker stands. We invested in some wharfdale powered bottoms and the difference is massive. The bass is thrown out to the back of the room especially where this never happened before. The kick and toms of the drums sound much better and our EV tops have now got a bit more headroom and are crystal. In my limited experience with PA's get powered bottoms

I have been known to have a few beers whilst playing. I do think though that the sound does change over a night. Bass always gets warmer and fuller. Guitar and keys go up. Our drummer uses electric pads and my other job is to mix us as we play. I am a great believer in drums being right up there in the mix so I always start with that. What really goes tits up is the on stage sound as the night goes on and my ever failing hearing. Often we are lucky enough to know a few people and ask them what the sound is like as a whole. If you don't do this as a unit it's no good how you are as a whole you will f*** up. It has to be the first rule of making music.

Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Spock's Beard again last Monday. My mate took a load of pictures and I asked him to take one of Dave Meros's rig. Had a chat with Dave. He has changed pups on his custom job (last years was his first night with his new bass). I complemented him on the sound of his bass on their last DVD. He said that the amp he had on the last tour was basically F%%%%%K. I wouldn't mind one of those F%%%%%K EDEN amps then. Last year I bought him a pint, this time he suggested a kebab. I declined as I had to go to work the next morning. They had 263 (very enthusiastic) people to see them in Wolverhampton. I think they are one of the best bands in the world.
