  1. I know I've been banging on about some of this stuff on other threads. Simple question. Is the ABM markedly better than the MAG. I have the 4x10 Mag cabinet and Im getting on well with the MAG head. Does the onboard compressor, overdrive, extra EQ, headroom make a significant difference? Also what would you buy a LM or an ABM? The superfly stuff doesnt get mentioned much. Is there something I should know? Thanks again in anticipation of any answers ... Im getting there, and please remember that I am from West Bromwich when posting replies.
  2. I must do this ... Im looking at the ABM's on the bay as we speak.
  3. I tried the LM through a range of mark bass speakers and in retrospect I think the cabs let down the amp. The 4x10 worked by far the best. I could see the amp was very good. Very tight. I wonder what the ashdown cabs would sound like with a LM head. It makes me think that my ashdown 4x10 is pretty good. Im still considering a LM head but personally Im not convinced with the MB combos and indeed hated the sound of the single 12 combo. I am now thinking about possibly getting a 2x10 cab (possibly the same as my ashdown) I then have a small rig, normal rig and a 6x10 rig. I would also have a nice little set up to practice at home. So the LM is not out of the equation because there was a wow factor when I stuck it through the 4x10. I need to gig some of this stuff. Wanging it up in the shop just isnt the same. cheers
  4. tried some high end stuff today and it didn't touch my ashdown sound ....Im confused! but I am going to stick to what my ears are telling me. I might get a nice Marshall Valvestate for my g****r playing and a flat screen for the bedroom instead.
  5. Sorry, I tried a lot of markbass stuff today. Best was the LMKII through a 4x10. It did sound good but nowhere near as good as my ashdown rig. My ashdown has balls and grunt and a great set of bollocks and Im keeping it. I have the MAG 300 and 4x10 cab. Next question ... what are the higher end ashdown amps like? I'm heading for some more ashdown because if thats how their low end compares their top end must be the dogs. cheers ...
  6. Can't really say learned, but I have been noodling along to Spocks Beard in anticipation of seeing them in a week or so. To be honest apart from gig night I am playing more piano at the moment.
  7. I've got one of these and I think its great. Have a bump on me.
  8. Since getting my active Marcus Jazz I have struggled to get a consistenly good sound through my 300mag and 4x10 deep cabinet. Through my passive jazz it was simply a case of having the guitar pots up full and taking it from there. I played in a marque on Saturday night and the rig sounded amazing, low ceilings, lots of material and bodies to soak the sound up. I dialled all the pots up on the marcus and then some on the mag and really got that deep and warm slightly driven tone. If I had of done this in a big hard surfaced pub or club the sound would have bounced around all over the place and this is when I think that "wool" can appear. Im looking at some markbass stuff because I need that alround tightness of tone that sometimes the mag looses. I will be keeping my ashdown rig thogh as a spare and I can't complain too much because it has been a great workhorse for the last few years.
  9. AAAAHHHHHHH 2x10 and 1x12. forgive me Im from West Bromwich!
  10. Is the 102P an upgrade of 121P? Anybody bought covers for there markbass combo. I have emailed a shop on ebay about a cover for a 102P. Cheers.
  11. This thread has been a massive help to me, thanks to all. This is what I may do .... I still really fancy the flexibility of the 2x10 combo. To combo and extension cab may be a financial bridge to far at the moment. Possibly I could try the 2x10 combo with my ashdown 4x10 and if it works I have a get out of jail rig for bigger gigs unti I can possibly get the 1x15 traveller? I know there are some mixed reviews of the cabs and I will know more when I try out a few combinations. I also know that mixing isn't great. Considering the above can anyone see any massive flaws in this plan. Should I wait, get a LMII and then a few higher end cabs??? Is the difference that great? I promise not to ask anymore questions. Thanks again.
  12. One more question please? Essentially with the markbass cabs what is the difference between HR, HF and P Traveller? I can see the difference but ... Cheers.
  13. piano and strap something on to the soggy end to hold down the bass notes.
  14. Beer crates are an essential piece of ki for any musician.
  15. thanks again everyone. Is it generally better to use same make cabs as extension cabs?
  16. cheers guys. I think its a trip to bass direct and try out some of your suggestions. I will mention your shuttle bass-ferret. Its just a case of finding some time, as always. There seems to be some very positive stuff about markbass. I know it's not cheap but generally in this life I think you get what you pay for. If you do sell mikeh give me a shout!
  17. I am pretty serious about getting some high end gear. At first I thought this may be GAS but now seems a genuine pursuit. Currently I have ashdown 300mag and 4 x 10 cab. My reasoning is to get the 2x10 markbass combo. I have a few options here. Full PA support sometimes, monitoring options and to use my 4x10 8 ohm as an extension cab for bigger pub gigs. Eventually I could ditch the ashdown 4 x 10 and get a high end 15, 2x10 or even a 12??? I could keep the mag head as a spare. I would like to know if anyone has worked with similar combinations. Is the £800 - £900 upgrade going to be fantastically different from what I all ready have. I like the idea of the flexibility the combo gives. I would usually only go down the seperates road. I have dabbled with the combo at low volume and been impressed. What is it like low down and dirty with its balls out. Can it cope on its own with a normal pub gig. I play a marcus jazz if that helps. cheers guys ...
  18. I have, am facing a similar dilema. I am seriously considering the MB 2x10 combo and squeezing a knacker through our 1.5 powermate rig. I could always use my ashdown 4x10 as an extension cab, or possibly get a lightweight 15 at some stage. the band I play in on the whole have been together for over 20 years. We all arrive in a big red van and then depart in it. Some gigs I never touch my bass stuff till its on stage. I usually end up with the lights and the pa. I would miss a rig personally, it will defiatelt depend on the state of the monitors and the guy mixing them. Good Luck!
  19. helluva lot of cab for the money. Would a local practice/rehearsal studio take it off you?
  20. dynacord powermate is superb. we get 1.5k out of ours with some top notc ev tops and powered wharfdale bottoms. Wharfdale also make great monitors.
  21. Thanks for posting this. Im looking a what's out there at the moment and not high street stuff. I do like to buy British if possible.
