1. That my friend is fookin lovely!
2.
^they have 20mb broadband now? bugger and i'm still stuck with this 2mb sh*t, bloody Kingston f***ing Communications. SAVE US BT!!!!
If its any concelation, I constantly get told by BT/Cable that I cant have broadband because my street isnt "broadband enabled" yet - my neighbour (just round the corner as I live in a corner house) has an 8mb link via BT! Ive done all the searching online and postcode checks you like, and they all say we should be able to get it via the lines we have, and we are only 2 miles from our exchange. So im stuck with crappy 1MB wireless broadband that drops out at random and requires a reboot of the router to sort. Great.
3. HAHA! Ive hijakced half your bass POD patches already, but yeah, that would be quality!
4. I am indeed- going to chuck in a J retro and balance the gain between the pups, but its fantastic!
5. That sounds sexy Ped - will need to pop over and give her a bash sometime soon mate, hows about I pop over with my new Gary Willis Fretless at the end of the month?
6. That Black Jazz looks ALMOST identical to mine - except mine has a badass II bridge and no rear ashtray!
7. Pre Ordered it just now - I cant wait to hear the TOP cover!
8. I Take: - 2xBasses -1xRack containing: Hartke 3500 Head Aphex Aural Exciter Korg DTR1000 tuner AKG WMS 400 Wireless -1xHartke 410XL cab -1xPedalboard (considering selling off effects in favour of the bass pod) -Spare leads (one spare lead for every one lead in use normally) -Allen keys -Spare Strings (never broken a string live though) -Towel -Screwdriver -Earplugs -Straplocks
9. In my experience, Laney gear is vastly underpowered and grossly inefficient - so for £1300, I would hope that this valve head is a zillion times better than the other trash they have released. Just my opinion by the way - im sure there are those out there that like Laney gear.
10.
I tried a VX 410 a few months ago and was not impressed. Very little fundamental bass note, very nasal sounding. This was in combination with a Hartke 2500 bass top. Unimpressed. This is the cheapo end of the Hartke range however, and the more expensive brethren should be another pan of lobsters entirely. Not being able to test them I wouldn't know. Just avoid the VX series is my advice.
Im inclined to agree that the VX series has always let Hartke down on reputation - but what I can add is that the VX cabs are absolutely nothing in comparison to thier XL brothers. The XL cabs have always had a very clear, defined, tight sound, with the Aluminium cones. I think the VX have paper cones?
11. Ped, have you let loose on Ishibashi again????!!! Nice Bass - will need to make another journey to oxford soon mate!
12. +1 - OBBM's cables are crystal clear, transparent as you like and rock solid. And they dont cost a bomb. From experience, the EBS HD350 and its older brothers are supposed to be very clean and flat - my bass tutor has the HD 350 and it seems very transparent with no noticable tone colouring going on....
13. Withi that price Bracket, i would go with the Hartke 410xl or 4.5 XL. Push the boat out a shade and it would be a Tech Soundsystems ND410 cab (like Doods old ones) and ill hopefully have one soon!
14. Organic is exactly what I would use to describe Warwicks - I can certainly add that my Streamers have always been very "woody" and Growly, they seem to have a nice midrange growl that i just love! I know some folk shove some Bartolini Pups and Preamp into them, but to be honest I like the sound of the Stock MEC electronics, so I dont feel the need to change. Warwick's are an aquired taste - I am yet to find a Musicman bass I can get along with, yet ive never played a single warwick that has not felt "right" to date. Horses for courses and all that...
15. I Agree - its like trying to explain Enharmonic Equivalents to a chipmunk with Alzheimers :/
16. Dave, I have found your walking basslines lessons very helpful and I just wanted to add that I you have helped me to understand the concepts of walking basslines. Ive stll got many weeks of practising to get good enough with it but it is now part of my daily playing routine! Something I would be interested in would be something similar for advanced slap techniques, such as double thumping or tapping - I have never been able to grasp some of the techniques that Marcus Miller uses like double thumping. Ive seen the Wooten videos but it didnt really help that much. Your youtube lessons are much more informative so far! Cheers Luke
17. Awesome, truely awesome.
18. Currently GASsing for: - A J-Retro for my Jazz Bass - Ibanez Gary Willis Fretless GWB-35 (which I am buying from a basschatter at the end of the month) - Rackmount Bass POD with FBV floor controller - Suitable Power amp so i can use the Bass POD as my rig - 2 Tech ND410's to run the POD and Poweramp thru Im seriously considering selling my hartke rig and then using the BassPOD and floorboard to control my sounds - ive been using nothing but the Bass POD xt I bought from Phatmonkey last month for practise and its awesome!
19. As the others have said, its personal choice - Dood slaps on a 7 string, Ped slaps on 4's and 5's, and I slap mostly on a 4 but with the right string spacing, I can slap a 5er too. A 6 string should be know different but it does depend hugely on the string spacing, and your technique. I learnt to slap on Jazz basses, so I am most effective slapping 4 or 5 string Jazzers - however ive never been able to get along with 6 strings so I stick to 4's and 5's. Just my personal preference!
20. EDIT - i am a DRIVER of a Jaguar, not an owner. Its a company car And Yes, I will be using that line many times for the ladies!!!!
21. There is a point to what Finn is saying. As the driver of a Jaguar, I now notice other jaguars and it is the same with basses. Craig David's bassist used a very nice Warwick Streamer Jazzman 5 with a full Hartke Stack, I noticed straight away and thought "Wow, I have that rig, and I play warwick!" Im not anywhere near as good as him though.
22. Shocking - looks so much like an Ibanez BTB!
23.
Whats the fretless?
Thats an Ibanez BTB615 or similar - i think....
24. I have just spent some time with Dave Mark's online Walking bass videos, and I have to say, they are very good! The PDF's and the videos should give me plenty to practise over the next few weeks. Also, can anyone recommend any fairly easy tracks with a good walking bassline that would aid in learning to walk?
25. I find that walking Root, 3rd and 5th is fine - I have no issue with these - but it gets difficult when you get the chromatic pasing tones tossed in and I get all confuzzled! Im certainly not a good enough walker to improvise a walking bassline yet - i would need to sit down with the chord charts and figure out something at my own pace. Making a bassline swing isnt a problem for me i find, I tend to stick to simple quarter notes and just focus on making it swing, so pretty much what Jennifer said!
