Hi All, In my recent aquisition of a Bass POD Xt, I have pretty much found all of the sounds and effects I could ever want or need, so I have decided to sell off my pedalboard and all associated pedals to help fund the purchase of a Rackmount Bass POD + Floor controller. So, I am selling: Boss BCB-60 Pedalboard case - this has been gigged heavily over the last tow years but is in generally good condition, the catches and clips are all working and I still have the foam inserts that came with it. £40 Shipped. DHA VT2 Dual Bass Overdrive - this is a fantastic little overdrive box, hand made by Dave Hall Amps. This was the first one of its kind to be produced upon request as per my specifications a year ago, and since then this has become a full blown product. It has 2 12ax7m tubes fitted, with gain controls and an EQ section for both tubes. You can go from some subtle warmth to some full blown overdriven craziness with this thing, quite simply the best and most natural sounding overdrive Ive ever heard. Power supply included. Mint condition, £130 shipped. Line6 Space Chorus - this thing can give you some lovely rich chorus sounds as well as the more subtle chorus touches. Also has a vibrato setting that can give you some plain strange sounds, if thats your bag! The Space Chorus replaced a Boss CEB-3 Chorus I had previously, as to my ears the Line6 was richer and more "full" sounding. Mint condition, £25 shipped. MXR Bass Auto Q Envelope Filter - this is a fantastic little box, and can instantly make your sound a funky as you like with those classic filter sounds. Very adjustable and I found that I could get pretty much any filter sound in my head out of it. I got this to replace a DOD FX25, and it is in very good condition. Im not terribly fussed if this doesnt sell but the filter on the Bass POD is awesome, so it would see little use if I did keep it. £75 Shipped. MXR Micro Amp - I bought this as a means to balance the volumes between my active and passive basses, however when the J-Retro goes into my Jazz then all my basses will be active. I can also adjust the volumes on my patches on the Bass POD to get the volumes balanced anyway so this is not needed. It gives a completely clean boost, no hissing or noise at all, and no overdrive. Can be used on guitar or bass, and does not affect tone, only volume. £40 shipped. Here are some pics of the pedal board at this moment in time and all the pedals as I have had them installed: The Octaver has already sold. PM me for more info! Cheers Luke

Fretless Neck Adjustments - Truss rod
lukeward2004 replied to lukeward2004's topic in Repairs and Technical
Cheers guys - i was brave enough to do the whole thing myself for the first time and its just perfect! -

That is flippin' lovely!

Forgot to add, the sound from the Bart pickup is very "HiFi" - it reminded me of the sound Dood gets from his 7 string Shuker in places, very clear and typical Bartolini soapbar sound. I play mostly over the Ramp nearer the neck but as I said, ill get some samples together when I get a chance and will post up some sound clips for you all.
I Really Hate Ibanez Basses, but this one looks preety cool! Good Luck
I must admit, I have never been a fan of Ibanez basses until I played this - its something else! The neck is just so easy to get along with and ive managed to get the action nice and low, with only the slightest hint of buzz at the first fret. The ramp is actually very good, im finding that it stops me from digging in and thus keeps my tone very clean and consistent, and the sound from the single Bartolini pickup is surprisingly growly and full. Ive set up a sexy patch for it on my Bass POD and if I get a chance ill record something for you all to hear, straight out of the POD - it has Elixir Roundwounds on it, which to my ears give it a lovely "MWAH" sound in the upper register, and the tone is so fat I nearly wet myself when I first played it! Overall Im really pleased with it, and I havent touched any of my other basses since I got it - im finding that my fretless playing isnt too bad, so given time and practise my intonation will no doubt improve to no end. Then I can buy myself an unlined fretless and do it properly

I thought folk round here liked a big bottom.... *Ba Dum Tish!*

Fretless Neck Adjustments - Truss rod
lukeward2004 replied to lukeward2004's topic in Repairs and Technical
THanks for the advice guys - I have made some slight adjustments to the truss rod last night, loosened it off by about a half turn, left it to settle overnight and gave it a little go this morning and it is just right - loving it! -
I must say Doc, that is lurrrrrverly! A much improved instrument, it looks very very good indeed. I was offered a bass identical to yours in a really battered condition, for £300 - at the time I turned it down, but now im thinking I should have snapped it up and Shuker-fied it!
That V8 is quite possibly the single most manly looking amp I've ever seen.
And then you see Kiwi playing through it in a dress......

CHeers guys, I finally plucked up the courage to adjust the truss rod myself last night, and I have got it spot on - the action is the lowest of all my basses, and has a fantastic feel to it. I found that I am taking to playing fretless quite quickly too, but I guess thats because the lines are helping me with that - doubt I could play an unlined! Sound wise I cant fault it - I am still tweaking my Bass POD to get the best amp/cab sound, but im fairly happy with it so im close to finding the tone I hear in my head. Anyone recommend any good fretless bass tunage to help get me started with fretless playing? Im playing anything and everything on this but would be nice to hear some simple fretless tunes to help me along the way. Cheers Luke

Go to Dave Mark's website and download the free lesson PDF's from there - his explanation is the easiest to understand IMHO

Marcus Miller is my role model for slap bass playing and Double Thumping - ive only just got into the whole double thump thing but to be honest, the way Marcus does it in that video is the way I am learning to do it. If there was one player I wish I could emulate, it would be Marcus - he is the living embodiment of funk soul music!

Hi Guys, I thought I would post up some pics of my lovely new fretless - one Ibanez Gary Willis 5 string. I picked this bass up yesterday and it needs to have the truss rod loosened up a little, but first impressions are very good - its in as new condition and the action is sublime, very low and very slick. The ramp feels just right, and although I suspect it will take me a while to adjust to fretless, it feels fantastic in my hands! Here are some pics taken by the previous owner:

My New Ashdown ABM-500 RC EVO II blew up!!!
lukeward2004 replied to bj_rocke's topic in Amps and Cabs
Sorry to hear that about your new purchase, I would be spitting blood at ashdown if that happened to me! Personally, ive never played an Ashdown amp that I liked, and ive been put off ever buying one by the huge numbers people complaining of reliability issues. -
April 1982 (I believe) Fender Squier JV P Bass
lukeward2004 replied to thedontcarebear's topic in Gear Gallery
Now that just Oooozes character - I love it! -
HI Guys, I need some help with adjusting the neck on my nice new Fretless Gary Willis Bass - I suspect the truss rod is in dire need of adjustment, as the action is nice and low but I am getting nothing but a horrible buzz and a muted note from the 8th fret down to the end of the neck (towards the headstock). I have sighted the neck and its not warped, but there is a lot of bow going away from the strings - so at the headstock end of the bass, the strings are toching the neck. Its so bad that I am thinking of taking it to a luthier as im too chicken to make any major adjustments to the neck myself, but I thought I would ask your advice first. I know its Righty-tighty, Lefty-loosy, but ive made some minor adjustments to loosen the neck but it has made no difference, and im not keen on making heavy adjustments for fear of breaking something! The action is just right at the moment, but ive even tried raising the strings to some ridiculous height to get it to sound notes below the 8th fret, but It just isnt playable that way. Kind of eliminates the point of having a ramp on the bass! HELP!

Is it possible to slap on a Fender P-Bass?
lukeward2004 replied to Baseballfan1456's topic in Theory and Technique
You can slap on any bass you like, it just depends on whether or not you like the sound! -
Fingers and Thumbs for me - I like to feel a "connection" to my instrument!

I was in this position not so long ago - the best thing I found was to have a few lessons with a tutor. You wont regret the investment!

Singing and playing (at the same time)
lukeward2004 replied to markytbass's topic in Theory and Technique
I can sing and play at a reasonably good level, however putting two together at once obliterates me! I am able to sing backing vocals if the bassline is simple - such as with the Natalie Band. I do a lot of harmonies with the Natalie Band and it is getting easier - put the practise and hard work in and it will get easier. -
Hi all, I'm thining of supplementing/replacing my rig with a modelling rig with the Line6 Bass Pod XT at the center. To do this successfully I'd like to buy a flat/uncoloured cab and I'm looking for suggestions. I've heard of people using Mackie SRM450 PA speakers but I'm concerned they wouldn't handle the low end. I know there are the usual ACME/ACCUGROOVE suggestions to consider, but getting an ACME is awkward (importing) and ACCUGROOVE are prohibitively expensive at the minute. I'm really looking for something cheap to check that it'll all work well. Any ideas folks? Cheers Ian
Hi Ian, I am in the process of doing the same thing myself actually, and I have just the thing. I am going to run my Bass POD XT into a power amp (undecided which one yet) and will place my Aphex Aural Exciter in the middle to compensate for any loss of harmonics from using the amp modelling. In my search for a clean, uncoloured cab, so that the amp modelling I have set up on the POD comes through the best, I will be looking to get hold of a Tech Soundsystems ND410 cab: http://www.tech-soundsystems.com/eng/10er/410.html Our very own Dood had two of these badboys, and not only are they light as you like (can lift them with one hand), they are also very clear and flat. From what I remember there was a little mid range scoop, but nothing too drastic (Dood, perhaps you can advise?) and nothing a slight tweat wont compensate for. They are almost like PA speakers, but with excellent bass response - so this is my recommendation for a Cab to run with the POD. Cheers Luke
Second that... would not have opted for the Hartle VX series in the face of the XL but you pays yer money and you takes yer choice. Never had to run my HA3500 further than 5 no matter where I been playing. Very decent and capable amps IMHO. Richard
Same here - never ran my Hartke 3500 higher than 5 on the master volume. I have my tube side set to 7 o'clock and the solid state side of the preamp set to 3 o'clock, does the job nicely.
