1. Cheers guys!! Ped - ill drop you a line tomorrow and we can go from there matey!
2. Unfortunately the company doesnt allow for vans - however they have a pool of cars consisting of a few VW's, Audi's, BMW's and Mercs - most of the other Engineer's drive BMW's or Audi's, either of which I would be very happy with!!!!
3. Where there's a will, there's a way - as the saying goes. Im waiting to hear back "officially" about the promotion, but my boss assures me that it is pretty much mine. Nobody else can do the job I do without considerable training, so im always in with a shout! As for the band, our singer is a trained theatre singer and actor, also does voiceovers for many things, our drummer is a network designer and plays for just about any band that asks for his services (at present, about 5 or six bands), one guitarist is a full time tutor, the other is in 3 bands as a session player, and then there's me, with my job and commitments with the Natalie Long band. We all seem to get by, so I guess im worrying for nothing. Thanks for the support guys - as ever, the membership excels once again.
4. Hi Guys N Gals, This is really for all the London based members, but anyone who is in London this friday is open to this. Im playing at the Clapham Grand in London on friday, 15th june, from 8pm. It is possibly the biggest gig I have ever played, at a very good venue that has previously hosted acts such as Oasis and Razorlight. It would fantastic if anyone can come along, ill happily have a ber and a chat afterwards as its a great chance to meet other bassworlders. We need a decent crowd as we are having some professional photography done and Natalie has a load of spare tickets going, so im really trying to find out if anyone fancies coming down tomorrow night? Might even let you have a bash on my gear too! Will be bringing my Jazz and my Hartke Rig, which includes my new AKG WMS 400 wireless which is fantastic. Address is: The Grand, 21-25 St John's Hill Clapham Junction London SW11 1TT PM for directions if needed. Tickets are £8 on the door, or £6 reserved via Natalie's website - www.natalielong.co.uk. If you email Natalie, via her website, you might be able to negotiate a discount as she is trying to flog tickets on the cheap, so I reckon you can get them for £4. Once again, its going to be the biggest gig ive done with natalie so far, and im really looking forward to it. If any London based Basschatters can make it, id love to meet you and would be awesome if you can support us! Cheers Luke

7. YOu are all absolutely right- my career pays the bills, and its just too good an opportunity to turn down. I was mainly concerned that I might end up becoming unhappy from not having the time to play music, but I guess that is something that occurs to all of us and may well be inevitible at different times of my life. I feel confident that I will make the time for a band - I always have and at present, I have a good reputation for being reliable. Im actually good friends with my keyboard player, and haing spoken to him further, I think he was just concerned that I might be unhappy if I take the promotion and end up with no time to play. Ive had a chat with the other engineers out there and they say that they dont often end up being stuck and having to cancel thier evening plans - it does happen, but apparently not very often, so im feeling more confident about this promotion.
8. Hi Guys, Im in the process of setting myself up with a small home recording setup - purely for whacking down some simple tunes, not looking to get heavily into recording. I am currently using my Bass PODxt as a sound card and using headphones etc to monitor the sound, however I want to get myself a little set of monitors and a power amp I can run them off? Any recommendations for a fairly reasonably priced set? My mate uses a pair of ALesis Monitor One MK2's off a Marantz Power amp, but he runs this off an audiophile Delta 2429, whereas im going to be using my POD as a sound processor. Any Ideas for a low cost setup?
9. Ok, I am now the proud owner of the AKG WMS 400 - and I did a quick AB test with a cable. If anyone would like, I can post up the recording for you all to hear for yourselves - I recorded the sound of my jazz through my Bass PODxt with a cable, and then with the AKG wireless. The difference? Minimal, very slight bit of compression with the wireless, no tone difference, and certainly plenty of low end!
10.
I use Elixir Nanoweb strings on all my fretted basses, and I dont clean them EVER. Might wipe them down after a good polish but never a proper clean. They last me for about a year before I need to think about changing them - lovely!
I should probably add I play for an hour a night at home and then 3 hours in the studio twice a week, plus fairy regular gigs, so they do see a lot of action!
11. Hi Guys & Gals, Heres the situation: Im in a good job, which pays well and is about to offer me a promotion into the Field engineering team, meaning I will be working remotely on the road, visiting customer's on a daily basis. Im also in two bands, with commitments to gig and rehearse regularly with them. The promotion will mean more money, a company car and several other perks - some days ill be finished and home at 3pm, others I may be late and have to cancel a gig etc. I will usually have 1 weeks notice of a job, however if the sh*t hits the fan and I have to go to a job at the last minute, I may well have to go. My Team leader for my current role is also the Keyboard player and musical director of my new funk band, which Im having loads of fun with. He knows ive been offered this new role as a field engineer and is concerned I wont be available for gigs and rehearsals in the same manor as I am now. He tells me that Im the best bassist he has played with for years and that he values my musical input for the band, however I get a feeling he may kick me out of the band if I take this new role. Ideally I would like to play it by ear and see how it works out, but Im unsure. I was in a field based role before I joined Mettoni at xmas, and i managed to juggle between my bands and my work fine back then. I really want to take this new role as it will be a fantastic job, good money and great perks, but I really dont want to have to give up my music or the funk band im enjoying playing for so much. Have any other basschatter's had a similar dilemma? How do you all juggle between work and band life?
12. Ive used several rehearsal rooms in berkshire that have varying quality of gear. I would say that you would need a fairly decent PA, with some form of monitoring - the amount of times Ive been in a rehearsal studio and not been able to hear my own vocal is shocking. Its difficult as you need kit that will be good enough for practise, something tough and reliable that can take a beating from the usual much around acts, and yet needs to be decent enough to warrant the cost of the room. For me, I just take my BassPOD and run straight into the PA now, as I cant be lugging my amps/cabs to rehearsals every night!
13.
Theres a few different views on this! I've seen interviews with big session players who say "If i write the bass line, i want a writing credit. Justin Meldal-Johnsen actually covers his views on writing credits in his seminar over at www.bassplayer.tv The musicians union will have guidelines on this. Certainly at the level it sounds like they're at it would be prudent to secure a fee before you play anything. Saying that "I'm signed" doesn't really hold much weight nowadays, unless you know theres a decent amount of money and marketing machine behind the artist. I'm signed in Japan, but i wouldn't offer you a royalty lol. Good Luck mate Si
Hi Si, Just as a quick side note, I noticed you are in First Signs Of Frost - and Im sure Ive gigged with you before. Ever played the White Horse in High Wycombe with Enter Shikari and Science Murders Dreams? Sorry for hijacking the thread.

15. Holy HotLoaf - that is a seriously nice bass!
16. Nice Bass - perhaps you might get more responses in the for sale section?
17. Pure Bass Sex goodness.
18. Really like the Sandberg Jazz, and its nice to see another BassPOD user! Ive had mine 2 weeks now and I love it - still fiddling and tweaking with my sounds, with some much appreciated help from Mr Ped *tips hat*, and its an awesome bit of kit. Contemplating buying another rack and having a rack Bass POD and a power amp for simplicity....
19. I have a Korg DTR 1000 rack Tuner - doesnt have the fancy lights that the DTR2000 has but it is very accurate and precise, never had an issue with it.
20. Im not sure actually - I would assume you could just run off the SS side of the preamp, but ive never so much as had a peep of trouble with my 3500 so I cant comment. Mine has been incredibly reliable!
21. One slight issue with it, which I discovered last night: Ive downloaded and installed the latest USB driver, and Line6 edit with Line6 Monkey. PC picks up the POD with no issue, and in the Line6 Edit screen it shows my current patch configs. However, when I try to use the tonelocker to transfer tones to my POD from the PC, I get an error saying that my POD is not responding and I need to restart it. Ive done this plenty of times, as well as running the line6 Monkey to update everything, including firmware and drivers, to the latest version. Thankfully a nice chap at Line6 Support told me I need to restart the POD in safe mode (power it on holding down the left softkey under the screen), and then do a factory reset on it with the option to NOT keep all my patches. Obviously Ill save my awesome warwick patch before I do this, but I really hope this works....
22. Digital Village do the WMS 400 for £195 inc VAT - FYI.
23. Im good for manuals thanks - got the manual with it, 'tis rather useful...
24.
Hi Luke, hope you don't mind me askin', how much did that set you back? That's exactly the bass I wanna buy next! PM me if you don't want to publicly say, or if you want to tell me to bugger off. Have fun at the Clapham Grand next week - cracking venue, I'd be along to support you if I wan't going to the IoW for a wedding gig. Back on topic, I really want a P bass at the mo, I think it's cracking for rock, reggae, funk, dub, everything. A lot of the sound comes form your fingers and the way you play it...
Hi mate, Thanks, ive never played at the Grande before but ive been informed that it is an AWESOME venue - im really hopig I get muster up some support and get some good live shots. If you come along Ill bring the P bass with me and let you have a little play It set me back about £1k as I recall - maybe just under. It was from www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk, and it is sublime
25.
I'm starting to this we under-charge! We go for 600-800 quid per gig, we've been going since '99, though with various line up changes (singer has been a constant since then though, as have a couple of other people). We're a nice piece band playing a similar kind of setlist (see Casa del Funk link in my sig below if you're interested). I always think that's a fair price though, because we don't take random requests from the audience. We play our setlist and we play it well, but if someone asks for something outside what we've rehearsed, we can't do it. That said, most requests are for wholly inappropriate songs; someone recently criticised us for being lame because we didn't play any Beatles.
To be honest, we wont be doing requests at first - it can turn out really bad......
