1.
Hi Alan, I saw the Paul Simon concert on BBC4 on Friday and I think Bakithi Kumalo was playing one of your basses. Looked like a Recurve SC S type.
Really? Man that's VERY cool! Would love to see some screen caps or something.
  2. I've played nothing but 33" basses for several years now, 4, 5 and 6 strings and I've not had any problems using regular bass strings, just avoid ones designed for extended scale lengths and you'll be just fine. I went up a gauge, from 40/60/80/100 to 45/65/85/105, but there's very little change in feel if I'm honest. Eude
  3.
Not sure if this qulifies as a daft question or not, but do the ACG SCs in general have the asymmetric neck carve?
All ACGs have that carve, unless the customer wants something a bit more traditional feeling.
  4. Subscribed! This is VERY exciting! Eude
  5.
Well 34" is only 3% longer than 33"! Will you actually fell the difference? I struggle to... but that just me! Tis an awesome bass mate... you know you want it!
You would think it, but I actually can feel the difference, chord shapes and faster playing on longer scales really take their toll on me, it took me a while to work out what the problem was, but 33" scale just fits perfectly. Played nothing but it since 2006, so I'm sticking with it Eude
  6. I absolutely adore this bass, I always have. If it were a 33" scale I would have your arm off at this price. I've played nothing but 33" for so long now that I don't really feel comfortable with anything else. Good luck with the sale mate. Eude
  7. Fantastic mate, that bass is an absolutely beauty! Congratulations Eude
  8.
A mate of mine has started working for them recently, he said there's a re-launch coming soon.
Re launch with new products?
  9.
Cheers for the thought Eude. Exporting this baby to the US seems like it'd be a pretty penny to get it there. $1560 even without shipping, import duties & tax - easily $2000 in the end. Sexy666, I can only sell my LTD for what they seem to be going for! What's the reason for getting rid of yours may I ask? You seem to have a fair few Warwicks in your collection!
Depends how much someone wants one, the Warwick Custom Shop want nearly $6500 to recreate one these days...
  10. I mentioned your sale to a guy over on Talkbass who's looking for one of these, he's based over in the US though, so might not be the kind of buyer you're looking for. Best of luck anyway Eude

  12. That is loverly mate. Jon makes beautiful Jazz basses! Eude
  13. Beautiful! You must be one happy camper mate. Eude
  14. If they'd actually just made a proper non-reverse medium scale jag-type thing I think they would probably sell quite a few, I'd certainly be tempted. I think the aesthetic is going to limit the sales enormously, some people will love it, but I suspect most will hate it... Eude
  15. There are worse things to suffer from mate
  16.
I already have an ACG 5'er (custom Recurve SC Classic with the 03 pre) so am very curious to meet a graft and compare the gubbins! I fancied a simpler pre on the fretless still with some control over mids but not in such an intense global way as with the custom ACG pre and I've heard really good and transparent things about the East stuff so wanted to give one a shot
I've got the exact pre in my 6 string ACG, I don't think you'll be disappointed matey
  17. Nice one Andy, that's a real looker!
  18. Nice specs mate, looking forward to following this one!

Fantastic mate! Can't wait to hear/see more
  20.
No problem. I love all that stuff myself, too, as you can probably tell. With this kind of bass, I tend to favour a punchy, middly tone with plenty of 'honk' and some 'growl'. The wenge should enhance the latter characteristic in particular. Also, some luthiers believe wenge to offer greater stability and consistency than maple, which means that even with a 34" scale it should still have a killer B-string. For the rest, I wanted the top to look spectacular, but wanted to limit the higher frequences I might have got with, say, maple, henced the flamed ash. If I should need to add to or deviate from the tonal characteristics of the wood, the Scott Devine circuit should give me everything I need. The main thing I like about it is the mid sweep. Very few amps and onboard preamps offer the tonal possibilities I'm looking for in the high mid range, so I'd actually been looking for something of this nature for a while. The dual concentric knob makes it easy to find the 'sweet spot' and set it to the desired level. What's more, the circuit can be used passively by means of a push-pull switch, which, when in passive mode, also acts as a tone knob.

Sorry, I only just realised it was you, Ewan ;-)
Thanks mate, for such a concise reply. I didn't think you'd mind sharing the nitty gritty I may have another bass in the future, and I'm really drawn to your wood combo though, the flamed Ash over Walnut looks amazing! And, yes, it is me
  21.
Dont blame not having any time on the kid. We all know its because ur busy speccing acgs lol
I wish matey, I really do
  22.
Good gawd Eude, thats one helluva collection you've now got!! Have to say that 6er of yours is my personal favourite but this one is an absolute beauty! Can you post some soundclips of them all soon??
Hey mate, I will try, I promise. Having a 7 month old round the house doesn't leave me much time to do anything these days, never mind anything musical, so it might be a little while yet. Since I made this post, I also received a lovely ACG Skelf Prototype Guitar too! Family photo of all the ACGs very soon, and sound clips to follow when I manage it. Hope you're well bud Eude
  23. Geeky question here mate, but whats the "tonal goals" using this wood combo? Eude
  24. Wow, this is going quickly! Really excited for you mate, I love the Original Series Shape Eude
After a brief email exchange the Black Limba Recurve has mysteriously morphed into this rather lovely J Type that will collected along with the Finn in a week or so. Mum's the word http://www.acguitars...portfolio/2881/
Shhhhh
