2.
I'm pretty sure the headless single cut (4 string) was sold by bassday at least.
Anyone get any piccies? Eude
3. Anyone got any pics of this elusive Single Cut? I don't think I've seen it yet. Jon mentioned in an email a while ago that he was doing a bolt-on headless single cut! Geez I'm drooling just typing this.... Eude
4.
Ha ha I was very, very much more happy than it appears in the pictures .. It's just embarrassment at not having any circus bass abilities or a party piece to play in such skilled company, Mark and Rich and Rob (who helps Jon) are all great players whereas I'm a bit more of a root-fifth player.. Speaking of which, time for some more playing, well maybe I'll just sit and look at it for a few more minutes
Look at it through a lens dude! We need more pics! (p.s. might have some exciting Shuker based news myself very soon, )
5. Congrats Si! That's one gorgeous bass there! But cheer up bud... That's you got 2 now! Eude
6. Wow, that's a pretty crazy spec for your bass dude! This is going to be something special! Cheers, Eude
7. You can spec up a Status Smart Bass with passive electronics on www.status-graphite.com in the Online Shop section, Comes in at £760 with a single P pickup, an ash body and chrome hardware. More pickups and other stuff puts the price up though... Just a thought though, Eude
8. Hi guys, Just a quick note. My band Ten Storeys High are starting a new monthly residency called "Ten Storeys High & Friends" tonight in the Voodoo Rooms, 19a West Register Street, Edinburgh above Cafe Royal. The deal is, we play every month and get different bands in each time, either they support us or we support them depending on who's the bigger fish. Anyway, if anyone's at a loose end tonight here's the details... Doors at 7:00 pm Torpedo Buoy at 8:30 pm very cool/weird stuff using looping, trumpet, acoustic guitar, musical saw with bossanova influences... (www.myspace.com/torpedobuoy) Hoochie Fig at 9:15 pm Very talented and quirky acoustic duo, funny and heart warming songs, very nice guitar work too (www.myspace.com/hoochiefig) Ten Storeys High at 10:00 pm My band, difficult one to describe, maybe "acoustic rock stylings"? Think Nick Cave meets Crosby Still and Nash meets the Buckleys meets The Waterboys meets Mercury Rev, I could go on, but I'm getting bored... The songs on our myspace page don't really represent the band properly, but a proper album's on the way... Oh and it's £4 at the door The next one will be Dec 20th If any Edinburgh based bands, or anyone willing to travel, would be interested in playing with us, give me a shout. Needs to be semi-acoustic stuff, or at least quiet, also being able to bring a wee rent-a-crowd is always good. We hate all this "pay to play" crap too, so we will split the door between the bands that have played and the ticket price will vary depending on the number of bands etc. The venue holds about 100, there's a proper PA and sound engineer. That's all folks, Eude
9. I find, to my ears anyway, that bolt-on basses have a quicker attack, which lends itself to more percussive sounds and slap stylings. Neck through basses tend to have a more organic slightly softer sound with a nice natural sustain. As I'm sure someone's already said, you can mess with these qualities by choosing certain types of woods etc. I prefer bolt-on's sound wise, and they're cheaper Just my 2p, Eude
10. Lovin' those Browne basses, and this thread in general. Really like basses that are a bit different... Check out this loverly example of Mike Browne's work, a 36" 6 string fretless >> Go knows what that'd cost... Eude
11. Fantastic looking bass dude! Congratulations! Eude
12. Hey bud, I recently downsized from a big heavy combo to a mini rig >> http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5152 Kinda the same but opposite from your plans, but I can't recommend this lil' setup enough, plus I have to option to add another cab to make it a hell of a lot more powerful later down the line. I'd be sure to check out modular rigs too if I was you. If you're set on a combo though, there's been a good few Trace Eilliots for sale on here recently, bear in mind though, they ain't light, but what a sound If you're going new, I'd check out the Hartke Kickback amps >> http://www.samsontech.com/products/brandpage.cfm?brandID=3 and the Fender Bassman combos >> http://www.fender.com/products//search.php...;subcat=bassman These amps are available from GAK pretty for not too much folding stuff. Good luck dude, Eude
13. Holy **** Largo! That is absolutely ******* gorgeous! Can't wait to hear how it gets on in your gigs, a comparison with your Sei would be interesting too... Congratulations mate, she's a beauty! Cheers, Eude

Congrats ARGH, that's a mighty fine bass you got there! The pro photos are incredible... How long did the build take? Eude
15. Nice one dude! That's sound like it's going to be one sexy bass! Eude
16.
Well I've gone and done it. I've just put down a deposit with Jon for a 6 string bolt-on custom. Here's the spec we've agreed:- 35" scale 24 fret 2-way truss rod Carbon fibre reinforcement All wenge laminated neck Birdseye fingerboard Abalone dot inlays Quilted maple head veneer (matching body finish) Jumbo frets Bone and brass laminated nut Satin finish on neck (pores filled) Red side LEDs (jaguar style rear control plate switch) Wenge body (thinned down to save weight) Quilted maple top (drop top, polyester basecoat, gloss tiger eye finish) Matching ramp (matching quilt and finish) EMG DC soapbars John east / ac preamp (questionmark over this though) black hardwear solid ABM bridge with adjustable spacing (standard 19mm spacing) Gotoh GB707 tuners It's a big step for me, in more ways than one: my first custom and my first 6 string. I've been thinking about it for a while (and tried every couple of years for the last 10 to get Jon to build me something, but 2 redundancies and an engagement ring purchase have got in the way!). Still a few things to iron out, mostly the preamp - I'd love to put an AC Wal-style preamp in this, but Alan (AC Guitars) isn't selling the preamp to the public. I'm giving this a bit more thought, and since it's about the last thing Jon needs a decision on I should have a while to ponder! Jon has quoted 12 - 20 weeks build time, but I'm taking 20 as minimum! Hoping for a finish similar to this sadowsky:
Nice one Bigwan, sounds like a pretty sweet build! That waiting begins.... Eude
17.
OK, here's my first moan about Jon. Sorry ! My bass has now been ready for the last week, maybe a bit more. For whatever reason Jon hasn't sent it. I've paid him in full and there's always a reason why it's not been delivered. Was supposed to be last Monday, but because he takes Monday holidays it was Tuesday. No bass, so phoned on Thursday and Jon says the Courier is booked for Friday. Phone Friday and the road is closed so no pickup. Phone on Monday, shop closed so phone yesterday and courier booked to pickup today. Bottom line is, I've waited more than 7 months on a 12-13 week build and it's taking more than a week just for a courier pickup. Am I just too nice on the phone, I always tell Jon it's no hassle and just to send the bass when he's ready. I know he's busy blah! blah! Looks like my build always gets moved to the bottom of the pile. Sorry for the rant.
Hey bud, don't panic, I had the same thing with mine, took about a week from being finished before it finally got couriered. Turns out, Jon likes to let the bass sit for as long as possible to make sure it all settles in fine, he just didn't tell me that, so I was champing at the bit, much like you probably are too. Trust me, once the bass arrives any frustrations you've been suffering will be long gone! Can't wait to see the finished article! Cheers, Eude
18.
the manual lists it as the footswitch connector
Yeah, my guitarist has a fancy Marshall amp with a foot controller and the connection looks like a parallel connector, like the ones we used to hook printers up before the advent of USB. Geez that makes me sound old and I'm only 28! Cheers, Eude
19. Congrats Tinman! That bass is gorgeous! Eude
20.
WoooooooooooooooHooooooooooooooooo Sorry to hear about yours mate.
Great news bud, can't wait to see this one! Reckon you'll get any sleep tonight? Eude
21.
Eude, the booster is made by Villex and boosts mid range frequencies by 3, 5 or 7db. This is the web address. http://eu.villex.com/internal_booster.html Apologies for the rubbish photography but here are some pics. They really don't do justice to what is a beautiful bass, and pictures can't describe the great sound!
Hi Mike, congratulations! Another fine Shuker enters the fold. You must be well chuffed! Thanks for the info on the Villex Tonebooster too... Cheers, Eude
22.
33" scale??? I was under the impression people were going to longer scales to avoid floppy B syndrome...
Well you can go long if you want, but quite a few of the high end luthiers are now making 33" 5 and 6 string basses. There's loads of things that can effect how good a B-String is, not just scale length, although, that is the most obvious contributing factor. Quality of construction, strings, break angle over the bridge and nut etc all come in to play too. It's an endless argument though... All I know is, I went for a 33" as I ain't the biggest of guys and the B string is as good if not better, than the B on many other high end basses I've played, that I don't care to mention, including one 36" scale! The upper register of the bass is a lot sweeter and warmer when compared to XL scale instruments, which is a nice bonus too. I 'spose like the single cut design itself, it's totally marmite, love it or hate it! Cheers, Eude
23. Can't believe I missed this thread! Here's my Shuker Single Cut Bolt-On 6 >> 33" Scale White Ash Body with an Amboyna Drop Top 5 piece Maple/Wenge Neck with graphite rods Dual EMG DC pickups with Shuker designed 3 band EQ with internal mid freq control and gain It's my pride and joy! Cheers, Eude
24. Congrats dude, can't wait to see the pics... Can you tell me a bit more about the "tone booster" knob? Cheers, Eude
25. Bloody Hell Mate! That's a work of art! I love the laminates in the neck especially! Eude
