Which 12?

I use a single Aguilar GS112 at the moment and couldn't be happier with it! Getting another one ASAP too. From what I've heard the DB cabs are even better, so I think they'd be a safe bet. They ain't quite as light as some of the NEO ones, but I reckon there's more girth to the sound as a result, and at around 40 lbs, they're still a one hand lift anyway. I'm sure you could spend £600 on a better 1X12 cab, but as far as bang for buck goes the Aggies are pretty hard to beat I reckon. Just my 2p... Cheers, Eude
  3.
Hi I need a bit of advice. The original plan, was to have an all in one pup cover/ramp/thumb rest running from the bridge to the neck. Having played a few basses with ramps, I'm thinking slapping may be compromised? Is this the case, or will it just mean an adjustment of technique? Otherwise it will mean having to reshape the pup cover/ramp/thumb rest by the neck, which may destroy the aesthetic
Hey MacDaddy, you could have the ramp kinda scalloped in where you needed to get your fingers in for popping. So the wood would still be there, albeit thinner, kinda like the cut down on my fingerboard, the other way round, see here >> If you did it that way, it'd still be a continuous piece of wood to the untrained eye... I agree with lwtait though, given where that precision pickup is sketched you ain't gonna have much room anyway. Hope this helps dude, when I get home, I can do you a proper drawing if it'll help to explain my idea a little clearer. Cheers, Eude
  4. Gotta be black dude! I've never really like Chrome Hardware, I've always thought it looked cheap, apart from that kinda brushed alloy finish that Hipshot do on some products. I'd also go with black though, as adding more contrast to the Ebony top might be overkill, I'd leave that to the maple board... Just my 2p of course. Cheers, Eude
  5.
Just received the first pics from Jon! The body needs a bit more routing before the gloss coat, but this gives a general idea. Really pleased with the top, and the contrast with the lighter body. Jon's working on the neck at the moment, so looking forward to some more pics in due course!
GORGEOUS! Eude
  6. Nice looking spec there Sean! Intrigued by the scroll shape, you got any ideas or sketches yet? Also, are you just having the one pickup? Looking forward to this one developing... Cheers, Eude
  7. Hey bud, I went from a Warwick Thumb Bolt-On 5 to a my Bolt-On Single Cut Shuker 6 in my profile pic. Couldn't be happier, managed to get a pretty close Thumb Bass sound out of it and much much more. Can't recommend Shukers enough. Are you going down the custom route or are you buying one that's already been built? Eude
  8.
Right the first 20 pm's have been sent out, I'm looking for at least another 20 before close of play on the 12th July. A £5 won't even buy you a pint in London, and I spill around a £5's worth of petrol when filling up my car now! So "thanks" so far but I know we can do better: there are a lot of Yorkshire Basschatters out there who have not contributed yet.....?
That's my £5 away! Good luck everyone. Eude
  9. Nice one Paul, cracking looking bass! I'm thinking of getting the Short Scale Ltd Version of this bass for my little sis's 21st birthday. This one here >> SX SJB-75 3/4 LTD 3TS Short Scale Your review has pretty much swung it. If I order it soon, I can play with it for a little while before I hand it over Eude
  10. 5er in from me too. Just let me know where to send it once it's all set up. Eude
  11. That single pickup Fretless Flamboyant She so hot - BOOM! Love the simplicity of it, plus the maple 6er is just pure sex! Eude
  12. Awesome dude! I'm really coming round to the idea of getting a headless bass, just for the lightweight and portability. Annoyingly, my bass is about an inch too long to fit in the boot of my car, so it always has to come with me for a post-practice pint. Hmmmm... Looking forward to see how this develops mate! Cheers, Eude
  13. That's gorgeous man! Congratulations! Eude
  14. Hey bud, you can get the Rotosound Tru Bass strings in short scale. From the Rotosound site >> "Most famously heard on the Beatles album ‘Abbey Road’. Super smooth with ultra low tension transforms any electric bass into a jazzy upright sound. Works great on fretless. Also works well with any kind of jazz, fusion, dub and reggae styles. Heard on ‘Transformer’ by Lou Reed, courtesy of Herbie Flowers." Product code is RS88S and the gauges are 65 | 75 | 90 | 115 Might be just what you're looking for... Eude
  15. Bought a neck and some tuners off WarPig. A true gent, held on to it for me while I was waiting to get paid. Posted it out pronto after payment, really well packed and as described. Top guy, thanks War Pig Eude
  16. Hey Jake, If Rasta isn't taking these I'll have 'em. Can you PM me details, how you'd like paid etc. Cheers, Eude
  17.
Cheers Eude. You're pretty much telling me what I thought - it's just I'm taking up most of the porch with the TE combo and the 151 at the mo and I don't know if I can stand the earache from Mrs MTB for 3-4 months . Generally the gigs we do are smallish (<100) and if It's bigger then I DI. The TE has more than enough for most of what I do - if the LM250 and 151HR can deliver the same volume then I'd have no problem. I know the 151HR has good sensitivity (100db/w) but the LM250 only delivering 150W into 8 Ohms makes me think it would struggle with a 400W handling cab? I was thinking I need about 300W minimum unless someone can advise me better.
I'm no expert on all that I'm afraid. The Aguilar I use is an 8 ohm 300W cab and has 95db/w sensitivity, or so I'm told. It certainly cuts through better and appears louder than my ol' 200W Trace Combo, but that's all the advice I can offer on it... Cheers, Eude
  18.
Well the cab thing has now been sorted in the form of a Mark Bass 151HR. However with less gigs forthcoming than I would like I'm having to consider 'bridging' options on the amp. Ideally I would like to go for a LM11 but I may have to wait a while until the GAS fund is replenished or I can find someone to take my TE GP715SM in px. So, in short would a LM250 be capable of driving this in the meantime or any other (reasonably lightweight) options anyone can suggest for the time bridging option? Cheers Mart
I've got away with my LM 250 and single Aguilar 1X12 at small(ish) gigs without PA support, I 'spose it depends on the size of venue though. On larger gigs I use the DI out to the PA and run the amp loud too which really fills things out. Seems fine on gigs of about 100 people, although I only have an acoustic guitar and a drummer to contend with. Anything bigger though, I reckon you'd need a second cab or a bigger amp, it also depends on the sensitivity of your cab though... The LM 250 is a great wee amp, but I am aware of it's limitations, if you can afford it's big bro it's probably more sensible going for that. I was replacing a 200W trace Combo when I got mine and it seems just as loud even though on paper it's 50W shy... Cheers, Eude
  19.
Sounds excellent matey. I hope I get royalties for the picture of mine there! Interestingly enough, Jon is building me a 33" 5-string. Thread to come! Looking forward to seeing this turn out. Interesting you want Sadowsky knobs, I requested Lakland 44/55 style rubber knobs!
Hey Mike, I do hold you and that bass responsible for me going for a Jazz in the first place Nice to hear the 33" bug is spreading, I'm so so pleased that I went for it on my 6 string, it really makes playing much more comfortable. The B string is as good as any high end bass I've played, and it's even better than the B I tried on a 36" high end bass, which shall remain nameless. The real nice surprise with it is the way the higher strings seem to sing that little bit more. How will you be stringing yours? The knobs? I've always just liked the highend chunky look of the Sadowsky knobs, thay look like hi-fi controls to me. I think you can buy them direct from Sadowsky, so they're not going to be impossible to get, I just hope they don't add a lot to the cost Cheers, Eude

    My Shuker build
When i hold down the button, it'll output noise - it has photoresistors attached and the brighter the light that shines into them; the higher the pitch.
Excellent, that sounds cool! Eude

    My Shuker build
Another one! , the GAS has got you good my friend
It'll have to wait till I've sorted the fretless out first, 33", 6 string in that new shape I mocked up. Then it'll be time for the short scale Yes I think I have a problem... Eude

    My Shuker build
a quick update, i'll be getting a light sensitive oscillator synth jobby built into the body of my bass, with controls on the lower horn.
That sounds well cool. Excuse my ignorance, but what will it actually do? On a side note, I've totally fallen in love with the shape you're going for, got a sweet idea for a short scale bass based on it, next year though, next year.... Cheers, Eude
  23.
Was going to take a few snaps of this, but it just looked like the above pictures! Shiny and black! Didn't see much point. Looking fine either way man
No bother mate, Jon kinda stole your thunder on the photos didn't he Thanks so much for offering to take some snaps though. Cheers, Eude
  24. Wow! That's absolutely gorgeous! You must be over the moon mate! You, and everyone else it would seem, where right about the pickguard too, looks brilliant without it, probably would've spoiled it, albeit a little Now get away from your computer and get that bad boy plugged in! Cheers, Eude
  25.
Damn right. The hour draws near! Going to phone Jon in the morning to clear that it is alright to drop down, but hopefully you should all get some pictures tomorrow! I'm going to be leaving Jon's place with a lighter wallet, but it'll be worth the six months of extra wait on what he quoted me! Hah.
Very excited for you bud, can't wait to see what you did about the scratch plate too, gonna be a surprise Eude
