Disappointing new bass day...I would appreciate some opinions.

slightly contry to the popular opinion... How thin is the finish and how much temperature change was there between you and the builder? If the builder was going for a very thin nitro finish, and there was a bit of temperature change between building it and you receiving it- it could have got that sort of cracks. The anndized guard looks like the screw holes are counter sunk - so care has been taken on at least some parts. The neck finishing looks weird - like the fretboards and binding wasn't masked off when the frets were being dressed - my guess (just on the lack of care) is it's a neck bought in rather than made by the builder? Electronics issues doesn't sound great mind. But should be able to be fixed. BUT love the colour - a green jazz master bass with a gold guard is like amazing! -
maybe someone took the ss/bs “mini”personally?
 -
It also costs more than the smaller RNDI ?!

I can make a guess! I’ve seen a trend in the US, especially in the worship band sector to use 1:1 line isolator DIs to put between their helix/anagram/quad cortex and the PA to give isolation - I think it’s the pinstripe audio one that’s the trendy one
 -
Have you ever considered it could be you have low gain overdrive ears?
 -
As a DR user I quite like the stainless Sadowsky blue strings, they are cheaper than DR too

I had an hx stomp, was happy… then Krispn I think it was sent me a link to a colourbox at a decent price and there was a whole journey started… till I got a hx stomp again! Unless you have gig or transport reasons I don’t think it’s always an either or thing- some things the analogue circuits just sound better or are far easier to use with the controls

I used to use fatbeams and after initial dull would go I would use them for over a year.

The journey was fun though right @pantherairsoft?!

So from that… finally got a spare evening and did the first stage of rebuilding … yes the octabass will fit in that gap, no it’s not going on as the hx stomp model is pretty good… so it’s empty. We all know nature, and this thread, abhors a vacuum…

I like seeing your boards and living vicariously through them!

I can’t think of anyone else making tortoiseshell vintage style except spitfire - and they cost more

	decent review here...

More likely the usual tale of someone doing something cool (and in this case technically difficult) and taking more orders on than they can manage, have a few setbacks, a batch that comes out wrong, a bout of flu ... and suddenly it all gets ontop of them ...

you can still explore without massive weight or cost - I made this - it’s a clone of a L4 preamp - it’s got a pretty awesome tone.

But if you had a big Trace Elliot instead - think how much per month you could save on your gym membership!
