1.
The biggest thanks needs to go to you mate, you came up with the idea and got the ball rolling.
What Gary said. Biggest props to you!
2. I wasn't aware that was in T&C's (never been pulled up for it before. Post amended.
3. Very nice (and very jealous)! How's the preamp? I'm half tempted to add one to my thumb bass.
4. My Thumb 5 NT- The grain on it seems to pop out more in worse lighting. Which I don't know if I find is a good thing or not. Either way, it sounds exactly like a Thumb bass should!
5. If it's not fun or paying bills why continue? Life is too short to spend doing things you don't want to.
6. I think there are certain things certain basses just won't be able to do. A precision is never going to sound like a Warwick Thumb etc. If I were in a financial position to do so I'd have a look at everything I play and find out what exactly I need/want and buy/sell accordingly.
7. Look pretty damn tacky to me.
8. When I used a dingwall I was heckled between songs at every gig. One guy even asked how much it cost and where I got it from mid set!
9. Defintlely the prettiest of the Ibanez models around.
10. Depends so much on so many factors for me but a few that really stand out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYhfH59OLC8 - Tone is excellent to me but I do wish it was a little higher in the mix at certain points http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh4YRHTJLAs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBsZbL-Akms - The whole mix of this song just stands out to me as everything being perfectly in its place and allowing the whole track to breathe and when the bass kicks in (without the whammy pedal on) it's like a kick in the chest on a good system.
11. I know this feeling. Back when I had a Corvette I hated the tone of it when I got it (it had relatively fresh D'addario nickels on it if I remember right) and felt it sounded a bit dull with a preamp that just sounded 'vague'. Soon as I put elixirs on it I fell in love with the tone from it. If the thing didn't weigh so much I would never have sold it.
12.
Awesome news mate, you won't regret it, the MC pickups are amazing! Eude
Only used them very briefly when I specced the bass in May but was blown away by them (even with my extremely limited ability to use the DFM preamp!). I'm not clued up on the interface boards (I know there are 2 types) but I'm sure Alan will be able to keep me right.
13. Very slight change in spec for the Recurve. It's now going to be installed with the multi-coil pickups.
14. Mainly pedals. TC Nova delay has peaked my interest!
15. Jeez. How is this still here?
16. Clicked the "I don't think anything would encourage me to vote" as I had to fill one in for that question in order to vote in the poll but none of them were really relevant. I would take part if I had means to record music! I know how to (at least to a certain amateurish standard) but just don't have the equipment.
17. Research on past prices is best as things vary so much. Warwicks cost an absolute fortune brand new but go for peanuts second hand. Other basses hold their value pretty damn well. Look at what other ones have been sold (I generally search on here/talkbass) then ask for a price close to that (that you're happy with selling for)
18. Found it worked for maybe half an hour. But I imagine the damage to frets of doing this very often would end up costing more than a pack of Elixirs.
19. Get lucky. Easy enough song but if you don't have the groove right it sounds like a robotic mess. Saw so many bands butcher it.
20. I haven't played there but know plenty of bands who have (some of which of the heavy shouty metal variety) and haven't had any issues (at least none worth complaining about!). If I'm free I may pop in support a fellow basschatter!
21. Jonny bought a compressor from me and paid quickly with no troubles whatsoever. Happily deal with him again. Enjoy the pedal mate
22. The bass on the left. It's the only photo I can find and it's with a cheap as chips "Crafter" bass that had faulty electronics and a neck that was easily the chunkiest thing I've ever used. Both sounded absolutely awful. Black one felt quite nice to play if I remember right (it was only 4 and a half years ago)
23. Can't tell if it looks really classy or just tacky...
