I like the 'hard on the outside, soft in the middle' method. Wrap the head up in lots of padding/bubblewrap on all sides, then put it in either a very sturdy cardboard box, or better yet a thin plywood box
-
And that example aside, yes you're right of course, too many notes can be a groove killer, and it's not always easy to get that perfect balance.
-
I'd agree with the OP in this case; the (superbly played) bassline is very driving, very Francis Rocco Prestia, but to me the song's groove is softer and more spacious than the bassline would suggest. Edit: listened again, and I think that the above still applies in the verses, but the chorus' have a different 'straighter' groove that is better matched with that bass playing

Songs You Really Don't Like Playing?
Roland Rock replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
I refuse to play any 12 bar blues - how many times can you play the same riff over and over (and over again)
😲 I suppose it depends on the song style, but 12 bar blues can be a carte blanch to have a play around the fretboard for a bit. Anyway, for me the song is 'How Long' by Ace. To be fair, the bassline is well suited to the song. ie very very dull -

No holes Thumb-rest - where can I get one?
Roland Rock replied to Marc S's topic in General Discussion
There was a Kala on the marketplace wIth little adhesive kidney shaped pads that looked pretty handy Edit, it was the Bass Buddy system https://ubassappreciation.wordpress.com/tag/bass-buddy-thumb-rest-system/ -
The Delanos are not vintage sounding PUs. If you are looking for that, get Häussel PUs. On the other hand, I would not say they are extremely bright; you can dial in a lot of usable tones. Also, the demo video above is not a very good representation...
Thanks. I have Häussel pickups in my favourite bass, and love them. I was hoping for a bit of vintage P thump in a new bass, so maybe this one is not ideal :-(
Get one, you know you want to
I too was impressed with the P5. Fenders have always been four strings in my mind, and for some reason I've always looked to other brands when looking at fivers. Yours is great though - nice even tone across all strings, and plays nicely

Great to know, thanks folks.

Thanks. It's the penultimate comment on this thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/160414-has-anyone-here-upgraded-their-sandberg-pickup-advice/ Also this video demo of the actual bass. There is a lot of brightness, buzziness and clickiness that offends me. I'm hoping that a lot of it is down to technique/strings, but wanted other peoples' experiences. http://youtu.be/e1wsTCy6-BQ

I've seen a Sandberg that I really like the look of, and it has (I think) Delano pup (Sandberg branded, but with the distinctive huge pole pieces) I've read that these pups are inherintly bright, and people have trouble dialling that top end out. Anyone got any experience? Is it something a set of flats would cure?

Roland Rock replied to karlfer's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd have thought that they would each receive the same amount of juice from the amp, but (going on those ratings) one cab can handle it better than the other. However, bare in mind the golden BC rule, "Thou shalt take cab watt ratings with a pinch of salt" -

I've always assumed that it meant that the bass was very playable; as if it was lubricated and offering no resistance, your fingers able to glide over the fretboard with the finesse and artistry of a champion ice skater. Doused in KY jelly. In space.
Thanks for organising this, it's always nice to meet people in the real world given I mainly speak to people online, and thanks for the kind feedback about my gear Really glad I could make it after having to duck out last minute last year!!
Great to meet you Tom, and thanks for coming; I could have played with that board for hours! And sorry for giving you cab GAS 😁

At yesterday's Midlands bass bash, Tom brought along his big board of goodies. Mmmmmmm [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-05/20150509_140952_zpssttslhce.jpg" class="ipsImage" />

Here is all my amp gear, cased up. A 2x12 cab, 2000w power amp, preamp, pedalboard and valve amp. [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-05/20150510_105604_zpsufsuoqqr.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> So where can it be kept in a modest terraced house where space is at a premium? A house where Mrs RR dislikes clutter and kids run riot? This is the cupboard under the stairs where with its many items; shoes, printer, coats, Henry etc. And behind that? ALL of the above gear. Noone can even see that behind all these everyday items is a huge stack of monsterous power, tucked away from spousal tuts and bousterous offspring [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-05/20150510_110953_zpschngeutr.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-05/20150510_110651_zps3luasmmn.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Practice is unplugged, or if I'm feeling feisty, through the stereo. Anyone else have a place that they can magically disappear their gear after a gig?
