1. A Bob Marley tribute night. I was told well in advance not to bring my amp as one of the bands was sharing theirs. On the day I get a message saying yes, they are sharing amps, but don't actually have a bass player! So much for getting the bus 😡 Anyway, it was a good night with the atmosphere ramping up nicely and our 11:30 set was a great time to go on. We had purposely emphasised the older rootsy stuff for this gig but judged that for an encore they'd like something with a bit more bite, and did a full on jump-up-and-down drum and bass type that really got them going. Wish the whole set had been more uptempo now. The two Bob Marley covers went ok considering we had only practiced them for the first time on Thursday (Lively Up Yourself and Pimpers Paradise) A chap came to introduce himself as the organiser of a festival that we are booked in for un the summer, and had come to check us out. We're still booked so must have been ok 😀 I had said that the band on after us could use my amp. When setting up the bass player looked a bit confused and concerned at the pre/power/cab setup with no apparent EQ controls. At the end of the gig he was wringing my hand saying how perfect it was and he couldn't wait to play with us next time so that he could use it again 😊 it did sound superb out front.
2. Next gigs are on 3rd and 4th of July. Its ska mental! Friday 3rd is the Summer Ska Spectacular at Spanky Van Dykes in Nottingham. The Saturday it's the Oxjam Skabequeue at The Shed in Leicester. 3.
As if I didn't feel old enough already!!!
and now you're even older still! 😁
4.
I was meant to play it again at a festival today but the weather is being a dick
[Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/download_zpsw5op5kul.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
5. My sister did a video of a family gathering to the background music Sister Sledge's We are Family. It took such a drastic change in pitch before YT would accept it, that it sounds like men singing :-D
6. This!! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/257114-fsfd-warwick-streamer-std-in-blue-final-price-drop-l330/
7. Really nice. The black hardware looks particularly nice. Is the body a bit more 'offset' than the P? I like it
8. That looks gorgeous! You must be over the moon. And with such a great delivery time and price too. I've got Häussel pups in a W&T bass and I can't say enough good things about the tone. Looking forward to hearing the sound-clips
9. You're not pressing hard enough. The harder you press the longer the sustain. Maybe.
10. Of course it's the long-awaited and much anticipated Mar oosh check! Can't wait to see it
11.
Well it should be safe if he's guarding it at gunpoint, but couldn't help wondering WTF sort of office lets you keep rifles on the desk
Haha. Just an air rifle stock being repaired. There is an eight ft boa constrictor in the viv on the opposite wall!
12. I'm in a similar position; my package was sent to my work but I'm at home today. Colleague sent a teaser pic.. It's not a Godin btw [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/received_10153379227857720_zpsvu27pabv.jpeg" class="ipsImage" />
13.
I think the key strokes for that accent are 'smart@rse'. :-)
My main intentions were to add a bit of helpfulness and humour (maybe with a tiny bit of smart@rse thrown in) but I'm sensing that your responses are getting a bit defensive/snippy. I didn't mean to embarrass you or rub you up the wrong way, so apologies if that was the case.
14.
I don't want to appear pedantic but is your use of capital letters for grill and grille correct in the message above?
:-D I'd respond 'touche' if I could find the appropriate accent on my phone. Actually, erm, that's the modern way to quote things in the UK.
15.
Grille is the old spelling. Grill is the modern spelling. In British English 'grill' is the dominant form. In US English 'grille' is still the accepted form. I'm British and so are our cabs! GRILL.
Haha. I did check a couple of online dictionaries before posting. Maybe they were old school American dictionaries Edit: further research all points to Grill relating to cooking/questioning, and Grille relating to the screen. Anyway, always keen to learn, but not keen to continue the thread derailment. We can swap links via PM if you like to try and get to the truth :-)
16.
I know, I wanted a Compact with a microwave on top. What did you think I meant?
I once had a Trace Twin Valve amp which looked just like (and got as hot as) a Dualit toaster
17. Sounds like a result. Just on a pedantic note, this is a grill: [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-06/zoom_Tecnoinox_Exploit_QSEF2_electric_salamander_grill_zpsuq9vvlwe.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> This is a grille: [Img]http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg580/christopher_brown14/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-06/LRgrid0001_zpspzavsyoi.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> ☺
18. Gone now. Thanks to all who enquired.
19.
I too would like to ask here if I may. If the OP's amp power is greater than that of the cabs, is there any danger that the amp, if on full volume, could cause damage to the speakers? Also does this situation get better/worse if only 1 cab is connected?
I don't think that it's as straightforward as matching up the numbers on the amps and cabs. That amp is actually 300w RMS and 500 peak. Even then, the 300w RMS can't be directly compared to the wattage limit on the cabs, as they are thermal limits, rather than RMS. Basically that pairing should be fine, but as with all pairings, it's best to use ones ears to listen out for warning signs (speaker distortion), rather than just trusting numbers. Regarding the difference when only connecting one cab, as Dad says above there will be fewer watts to handle with a single eight ohm cab, but it's still best to listen out to make sure the driver isn't being stressed out too much.
20. That amp will happily power either one or both of those cabs ☺
21.
That appeals to me on so many levels. Absolutely love the tune and video. Great work.
Nice one Dave - thanks very much! The chorus parts were shot in my workshop - very strange miming the song over and over with several bemused men peeking in the door
22. I like that. Nice dynamics - very Zepplinesque. Well shot video too. Great stuff
23. Here's some detail for the Bob Marley gig on Saturday: http://www.nusic.org.uk/wordpress/top-3-gigs-week-beginning-1st-june-2015/ We are Nottingham's answer to the Specials, apparently!
