1.
Tell me, why do folks think a mute button is useful? My floor tuner does all that is needed, keeping my LMIII nice and simple.
I often don't use a floor tuner. I love having a mute button.
 2.
You can't really compare basses from YouTube clips if they're being played through desktop speakers. In fact, even if they were being played through full-range studio monitors it would make little difference, as people record these clips on wildly differing equipment of dubious quality. The only way to compare bass guitars is to play them and listen to them yourself. There are far too many variables to account for otherwise.
This, definitely. There is a YouTube demonstration of my bass, and it sounds very different to the way it sounds when I play it, through my amp, with my preferred strings.
 3. Your list is very diverse; can you tell us the kind of tone you're after? I adore my Glockenklang, the clean tone is sublime. However, I still have my valve amp for old-school sounds.
 4. A lot of love for JVs on Basschat - make sure you post plenty of pics Welcome to Basschat
 5. I tried to get this information when I was selling my HD350 and it's really difficult to find. The best info I could find was anecdotal, saying that the head pushed out 175w at 8ohms. Obviously it's 350 at 2ohms Whatever they are, they are EBS watts that punch well above their weight.
 6. I don't get the logic behind the shocks either. I admire 'out there' finishes, and would prefer that to a quilted or spalted maple top any day. I've seen much nicer steampunk style basses though
 7. I'm pretty sure Pierre had one of these: http://basschat.co.uk/user/12765-pierreganseman/ Shoot him a PM
 8. My first scratchplate effort, I made this one from veneers. It's made up from four layers of mahogany veneer with alternating perpendicular layers - a kind of mini exotic plywood, and then ebony as a top layer. The bass itself is mahogany with ebony accents so I tried to keep it consistent. Bevelling the edge was a lot trickier than I had planned, but it turned out ok. Finished with Rustins Plastic Coating.
 9.
One powerful but small and light cab to replace my two powerful but small and light cabs.
Chuck one away. You're welcome
 10. Looking at the picture, I can't quite tell who it's made by - anyone any idea?
 11. Go Yodel
 12. Section 6d2 (page 5) should help answer your question http://barefacedbass.com/Barefaced%20Generation%20Three%20user%20manual%20v1.pdf
 13.
It was the very one - I kept on looking, and then it was gone..........
Another one.. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/229639-tc-rh450-inc-pedal-and-case/page__pid__2367050#entry2367050
 14. Just a thread resurrection to let Squarepusher fans know that there is a new release on the way. Robots playing music. It's an interesting looking project, although I must admit, I enjoyed the video visually more than musically. http://warp.net/records/squarepusher/squarepusher-music-for-robots
 15.
.....band based in Brighton.

Ill join.....

......im not from uk tho
16. One of the perks of Musicians Union membership is equipment (£2k) and legal liability (£10m) insurance.
 17. One in its case, which is hanging on the wall. The other hanging on a Hercules floor stand. The mini-Rocks know that they can gently touch anything on the bass, except for the tuners.
 18.
MDF is not less durable that Ply. Are you thinking of particle board?.... .....Ply is also less durable than MDF. You can make finger nail marks in the surface of ply. It’s very difficult to do that with MDF.
I am talking about MDF, and maybe 'durable' is misleading when I should have said 'stronger' (although I've just looked up the definition of 'durable' and it says 'able to withstand damage') Anyway, what I meant was that MDF breaks much more easily than ply, whose alternating layers give it much more strength.
 19. Wasn't it sampled from Camille Yarborough's Take Yo Praise? Sounds very Jerry Jemmott Edit: James Benjamin apparently. I've always loved the playing on that song http://www.discogs.com/Camille-Yarbrough-The-Iron-Pot-Cooker/release/719973 Another Edit: The actual bassline is not sampled from that song :-D
 20.
I've also heard that MDF produces a better tone. I'd wager that MDF is heavier than ply though, and probably less durable. Maybe that's why they're heavier now, and nothing to do with production being moved to Indonesia?
Some plywoods are heavier than others, but in general MDF is around 40% heavier than ply. MDF is also less durable.
 21.
All that said, if it has been a pukka touring bass for a pro bassist it probably sounds and plays pretty good
Agreed, just not for £1500
 22.
Nice reply . . . . but are they heavier or not?
Nobody uses that felt for a reason - it weighs a bloody tonne! :-D
 23. Ok, aside from the tuners, bridge, pickup(s?), extra string tree, scratchplate, electronics, extra body routing, wood filler in the headstock and paint job - is it a 1963 body? Have the ashtray holes been filled?
 24.
As there are so many amps being taken I won't bring mine. If it turns out it's needed, it's a 15 minute round trip to pick it up...
Thanks Norris Teamwork makes the dream work
 25.
Bad patter is worse than no patter at all
Sums up my post in nine words :-)
