I think the best idea would be to have the nut made from the same material as the frets so that it all sounds the same... Saying that, I've never had a problem with a plastic one!
I think you look good with a strap on
Why Thankyou ... when the lady moves out, we'll talk
In the first picture your right hand looks strained and you're having to attack the strings at a funny angle. Your left hand thumb is coming over the neck and you're fretting heavily with your index finger. In the second picture, your left hand looks much better but your right hand still looks like its in a difficult position. That means better in second pic IMO
You paid closer attention than even me! Thanks for the comments, its a work in progress haha I've got a way to go to find a perfect balance between performance and cool factor

I've got one of those. It's annoying. Only used it once or twice!
Your technique looks to be a million miles better in the second picture which is really unusual!
Haha, first BCer to say its better lower

A barrage of comments from other bass players saying 'man I really want this' will make any bit of equipment more desirable Plus im rather obsessed with gear and love talkin about it. So if I was selling a bass and somebody did it I'd take it as an excuse
-
Haha I like how many emotions this thread has raised I don't want to make playing the bass any more difficult for myself, hence the very slow descent! At the moment my fretting hand can still get around comfortably which is the way I'm hoping it will stay.. On the other hand (the right one), in finding plucking the strings a lot easier with a slightly straighter arm! So if its any less offensive, there's now a practical reason for it (I still desperately want to look cool playing one dag though )
Emailed them too, I also asked about B3X and B5 versions....
Good call! I really want a B3X... It's been in my GAS list since I queried them about it months ago
I keep mine at pretty much the same height standing as when I'm sitting, give or take an inch or two.
The Billy Sheehan approach? I pay close attention to a lot of what he says, smart guy and great player evern if some don't like his 'lead bass' thing!
Personally,I'd be more concerned with the left hand positioning in the first pic
I know right? First time I'd picked up a 4 string 'proper bass' in over a year! Felt weird lol
I can't see any difference in bass height. The camera angle in pic 2 seems to give the illusion of a lower bass but both the 'nipple to horn' and 'jack to crotch' distances remain very similar upon inspection. Hmmm.......... you trolling?
The camera was slightly above me on the first picture so the bass actually looks lower than it is! Plus I'm standing up straight in the second picture
-
I've seen a band where the bass player used one of these bad boys, and it sounded immmense through my Markbass rig! You play it like it was made for you too! I would go for it!
The Guitard next to you destroys any semblance of cool with his choice of leggings, plus the first pic is black and white, and therefore looks way cooler. By the way, my bass is going the opposite direction. From slinging it around my knees, it's currently just above belt height, and take it from one who knows, you can get busier with less wrist strain the higher it is.
I know right I still have it on the high side on the 6 string, there's no way you can look cool with one of those anyway right? And with regards to the wrist strain thing, yeah, thats why i've always played with it fairly high but I'm finding I can incrementally lower it without it sacrificing my playing or my health... PLUS it makes things easier on my right hand! Might still have trouble if I go stupid though.... My dad idolises this guy, which is probably why he's a ridiculously sh*t bass player Gotta admit that's f***ing cool though
Thanks bud, love your band btw!
Cheers man Glad you enjoy the tunes! We've been on hiatus for most of this year though unfortunately... Random people keep mentioning that we should make a comeback so hopefully some seeds have been planted... Need a new lead guitarist though! -
So this year I've been practicing on keeping my technique at the same level, whilst lowering my strap gradually... Does anyone else care this much about how they look? In the last few months I've gone from this To this Am I cool or what??
Does anyone know if you can rack-mount the Stage Clix receiver (without having to bodge it) into a 1U space?
It doesn't look like it to me dude BUT... "The company is currently working on a 19" rack version called stageClix Rack. The self powered stageClix Rack can combine up to 4 different versions of stageClix in just one rack. Coming this year..."
Yeah - if i ever get the time I'll reverse engineer it and build a miniature version!!!
Great idea! You'd have to find time to make a few of them though, I bet a lot of people on here would be after one too

My bass is 'Bass Of The Week' in No Treble Magazine!
chrismuzz replied to Dood's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it's a metallic purple / emerald green flip paint that changes colour, but under certain indoor lights it looks dark blue. Outside in bright sunlight there's a flash of red round the edges too. There's a link to my build diary in my sig below.
Lovely Was it perhaps inspired by the finish on one of Mr Petrucci's guitars? Very enjoyable build diary! I've already heard how good this thing sounds too (and that's only on youtube). Mr Shuker sure can make a bass! -

Nice one Never realised just how cool the finish on this bass really was! -
1st iteration. A few changes planned. DIY octave and fuzz to go in, synth probably coming out. Also may replace the qtron with a DIY meatball clone if i could ever get around to finishing anything!!! Artec para eq only there as a placeholder in the meantime.
Nice Don't see Hyperdrives on pedalboards often cause they're so massive Placeholders are very important for temporarily delaying GAS!!

I like the bass not getting as much attention, means I have more time to focus on what I'm doing... And I see it as a challenge to try and get people to notice or appreciate the bass

What's the best noise gate pedal for up to £60/£70?
chrismuzz replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Effects
Boss pedals are known for a bit of tone loss, but as I said loads of people use them so it might not be so bad! The ISP Decimator is about the only dedicated noise gate pedal I would want to use but they're about £100... unless there's a used one on ebay! -

chrismuzz replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Effects
The NS-2 has a bit of tone suckage, but loads and loads of people use them and it is in your budget! You might find you prefer your tone? I had an old ProCo Juggernaut which I really didnt like, but the slight high end rollof when it was left clean actually made my tone sound a little bit better to my ears
