Waiting for someone to mention a certain cab manufacturer beginning with B...
Tony, have you tried a 2x12?
I've not tried Aguilar cabs, but I'm a big fan of both Ashdown and Ampeg! IMO you can't go wrong with either

Welcome Kai! I remember when i was fairly new to the bass and I started off with Nirvana, Black Sabbath and Metallica... Good times! One thing that helped me a lot (if you're not opposed to using tab) is a program called Guitar Pro! You can play along to a midi version of the tab, isolate/remove instruments, slow down and loop sections... It's great! I still use it now
The honest answer is that I haven't used it enough to really tell. I picked up an old '67 Ampeg B15N and have been pretty much using that all the time recently. I'll try to have a blast on the LMII soon
I don't blame you to be honest Yeah I'm just considering the possibiliy of 'upgrading' to a MoMark system if the upgraded bi-band limiter is less likely to cramp my style! In the meantime I'm gonna experiment with turning the input gain down LOTS!

I'm a 1987 guy... I wonder if they still made peavey T-40's that year!
Honestly, the three minutes I heard was completely unmusical. If i did what he did on a guitar I'd be seen as a beginner, do it on a ten string bass and I would be seen as a 'proper musician'. Why does almost everyone I've ever seen playing one of these start on the top string, do some lame scale patterns on the high strings, then some badly played elementary jazz chords (while closing their eyes and 'emoting') with some guitar style 'expression', then a bit of crap slapping, (edit: I almost forgot the dreadful harmonics!) and almost forget there are bass strings on it? These people seem to be very confused and don't have much to say on the instrument. I think they get one made and quickly realise they are pointless white elephants so resort to showing us on YT how unplayable they are.
As much as I usually defend people to take a different approach... I can't find myself disagreeing with any of this if i'm honest! I discovered a couple of years ago that a 6 string is my limit. I can play musically on it, and I don't see having extra strings as having any benefit. There are some players who can make great use out of 7+ string basses (dood is a fine example!), but I'm not one of them... And judging by the video in the OP neither can that guy!

It's one of those annoying things that's so easy to do but so hard to explain! I've always played with an aggressive finger style since I was never shown how to play 'properly' You basically have to 'hit' across the string with your finger, the attack is very similar to a downstroke with a plectrum I guess. Bryan Beller uses this style a lot... He's using it in a metal context in this video but you can kind of see what he's doing with his fingers here. Bass, postmen and tired cranky babies don't mix :(

I stopped practicing at home for a few months when my son arrived on the scene. Back into it more intense than ever now though! -
There's also something about the shape of the head that doesn't ring true to me.
See what you mean!

Bass, amp, cab, effects, fingers, pick... You can get so many different sounds with different combinations! Most notable to me is the fact that whenever anybody else plays through my exact setup it sounds nothing like me!

What is '..a microbe of relief' ??
E to E?
The E string is all a bassist needs. Why not have four of them? -
I would actually try and get to a guitar shop which has a decent range and try a few out. Some guitars are narrow and easier to play, some are short scale which you might prefer also...light/ heavy etc Feel of play is more important than how it looks. My first bass was a fender copy and that was a piece of crap. I then got myself a second hand heavy metal Westone Dynasty and that was a joy to play!
Gotta say I agree with this a lot. It's got to be well made, and comfortable to play for you to make learning as easy as possible. Don't let shop assistants try to sell you something with all the bells ans whistles that you don't need or want. Just try everything within your budget, and pick whatever feels nice, and sounds good enough that you'll enjoy playing it! If it looks cool too thats a bonus!
Band before last, Red Pen Letter.
Nice Really reminds me of Muse!
I don't have any experience of the Peavey basses, but someone on here will, have you run a search from the main page (box on the top right) that will throw up any post that mentions them, someone might have reviewed one. (the reviews section is very useful) matt
Hi My first bass was a Peavey... 9 years on I now own three of them and no other basses! Can't get much more of a recommendation that that
So far mine is kind of pathetic. Not on a board either and I'm missing my TU-2.
I like it! I used to have the Behringer DC9 and it was really very good You might need some overdrive on there though
The fact you can control it with a mouse is pretty rock and roll though.
Haha I was thinking the same thing

My old band Scorched Earth! We were heavily influenced by bands like In Flames, At The Gates, and other high speed metal core type bands. The recording isn't the best quality at all... All the instruments and vocals were recorded straight into the desk with no amps, effects or anything... Amazingly though the bass is pretty audible throughout most of it... What you hear is a Peavey Grind with stock pickups, no compression or anything!
Can't say that I really noticed any obvious limiting going on with the MoMark, just felt 'loose' and powerful - not sure if this helps, lol.
Actually, it does I notice you're now running an LMII and TRV102P, would you say it IS noticeable with that setup?
What he hasn't told you is he did a bit of detective work and a fresh set of La Bella flats just popped through my letter box from him this morning! Totally unnecessary but much appreciated.
Nice Always makes me smile to read about cool stuff like this happening here! -
is it possible to play drums and bass well...?
chrismuzz replied to lowdowner's topic in General Discussion
I can definitely see why this would be - just thinking about spreading myself too thinly - i'm not that musically adept!
If you can dedicate time to a second instrument without missing out playing your 'main' one then you shouldn't worry about spreading thinly I used to play guitar to a reasonable standard, but because I got SO heavily into bass I stopped practicing guitar altogether. It's been years since I tried to play it properly now so I just can't do it! Unless you do the same as me you should be good to go with both! -
No they stopped for some reason, someone did tell me but I've completely forgotten. The Diago powerstation is identical with a different label and a larger markup but is the only one now available.
That's a shame Cool to know it's identical to the Diago though! It should last me a long time then!

Dave Grohl can play pretty much anything you throw at him, so I'd say so! -
MarkBass have been offering MoMark kit at a discount for a while now. Once you've lashed out for the basic chassis the individual modules can be really quite cheap. I used one of the solid state 800 pre-built units a few times. Sounded great though a 4x10 + 2x10 stack
Hey man, did you notice any difference in the built in limiter circuit compared to the 'regular' Markbass heads?
